  1. No space for fireplace in our little 3-roomer! We are actually spending quite a fair bit of money for our kitchen so hope the rest of the house will turn out ok also.
  2. Haha American cabin kitchen; wait till you see our kitchen flooring. That should be up by next week.
  3. Ya Ah Meng said this is the first time he is using the wood lookalike tiles for the wall instead. But we didn't expect it to be so tedious to do... The tiles are very long and hard to match the grains perfectly... Luckily the tiling team rose up to the challenge and never complained yet.
  4. @edd Luckily we didn't faced much problems in getting the right people to fix the leak. Now have to wait for rain to check if the leak is really fixed. The baba tile on TB costs S$0.50 each (excl shipping). But for same-sized tile in S'pore, it would cost around S$20-30 each!! Crazy!!!
  5. New rubbish chute up and the stainless steel contrasts well with the wood wall tiles Kitchen & bathrooms by Makanology, on Flickr Haha, now we know the blue part is just the sticker
  6. Tiler Ah Meng is a nice guy with great skills. After watching him & his team work the last few days, we realized the tiles we have selected require more work than the usual tiles. Yet Ah Meng never complained once and always highlights possible problems due to our various tile designs & dimensions. Best part, he will also have 1-2 solutions for us to choose. On top of this, we like their workmanship and so we decide not to rush them. In any case, Alan miscalculated and ordered insufficient wall tiles... Kitchen & bathrooms by Makanology, on Flickr Kitchen & bathrooms by Makanology, on Flickr Ah Meng's suggestion of a more complete look by using the same kitchen wall tile for common bathroom entrance. And he even suggested using wood color for the grout lines = Nice!
  7. Our renovation progress is soooo slow! Alan has many projects at hand and we have to wait for our turn for the tiling team to do our place. Finally tiling work started 4 days ago and we have been going down almost everyday. Why? Tiler discovered a leak at our master bathroom. When it rains, the rain water will seep through the wall! So today finally HDB sent their contractor to fix the leak - no idea who is footing the bill but we reckon maintenance should be under our town council? Our TB stuff finally arrived and here are the baba tiles that we ordered: Kitchen & bathrooms by Makanology, on Flickr This will be used on our old school bathrooms: Kitchen & bathrooms by Makanology, on Flickr On hind sight, people are now using bigger wall tiles to have lesser grout lines and hence easier cleaning yet I went the other way... Mr E just laughed at my choice & said 'happy cleaning!'
  8. Hey shopping is a good way to pass time as you wait for all the hacking and renovation action to start... Enjoy!
  9. I agree with Beng too! We are next to your block and our renovation started on the same date but we are still at tiling stage now. Your renovation progress is extremely fast!
  10. Haha I only saw your renovation update after I replied your pm. Looks like so far, so good!
  11. Same same but I think we have to move in by 31 May. Current lease ends by then. Anyways for carpentry, we are only doing kitchen cabinets with Alan. So he only needs to ensure MBR, bathroom & study room, electrical, plumbing & painting is done by then. Kitchen cabinet & touch-up can be done slowly in June.
  12. Haha he never recommended any AMK shop but instead Poh Seng @ Jalan Besar. However we ended up buying from Royal Fanco so we have to coordinate all the deliveries ourselves.
  13. Wow thanks for sharing your timeline. That will serve as a good guide for us on the things we need to arrange eg aircon installation, WC delivery etc! I hope ours will also go as smooth as yours When are you aiming to move in?
  14. Wahahahaha either you really love purple alot or your life revolves alot around your furkid but have to agree, the pop of purple helps to personalize your space!
  15. Hilltop? Do they have a branch at Jurong Hill? If yes, then I remember fondly their teppanyaki and mango pudding. Many many years ago, there wasn't much decent non-Chinese restaurant in Jurong so Hilltop Jurong Hill was the best!
  16. Alan is doing re-wiring and plastering work for your place now? How about plumbing? We are trying to figure out what he is doing next for us after tiling.
  17. Sorry to hear about the sink trap. In the end, what did you use?Today we managed to tell Uncle Ah Meng in time about our TB sink traps. Size of ours bit smaller but Uncle said can still use. But he now has to raise our bathroom floors cos our sink traps are thicker than those used in Singapore.
  18. Yes Uncle Ah Meng, nice guy and gave tips here and there which is very appreciated!
  19. Nice 'after' pictures... Can't wait to see the full set of pics taken with your DSLR!
  20. Hi welcome to Club Alanists and the 3-roomers! Haha yesterday the tiler also proposed to us to use the wood tiles for our stairs. 'Wooden' stairs looks awesome right?
  21. Hi it depends how old your place is and its current condition. To convert the squatting bowl to sitting bowl would cost $100+ excluding the cost of the WC which can be anything from $195 - 700+. I think the toilet floor may be affected and once you change that, the waterproofing membrane will need to be re-done. For re-wiring, I agree with may_dream. Better to do it on a safer side but once done, there may be a need to re-paint. Our re-wiring for our whole place is around $2.3k and painting is around $1.2k. Hope this helps!
  22. Hi jaykr, sounds like you are planning to do some ***** for your kitchen? Still glad to hear your renovation seems to be moving along. Our tiling still hasn't started yet! Meeting tiler in 3 hours time.
  23. I think new place + your dog excited to see you back home so he couldn't control and just let go his pee. How old is he?
  24. True, especially when pouring away leftover gravy; I kept having this impression that it will stain!
  25. The beige, sand-color one. Solid surface top will be of similar color too.
