Oh I really love your vintage floral stuff. Do you think TB would have something similar but hopefully cheaper? -

I hope your tiler is Ah Meng (mustache uncle) as he is very efficient, friendly and good workmanship! Ah Keong is the electrician; he seems to be the boss of the electrical team. His work is ok but his team seems forgetful. We told them the exact electrical points to be fixed with height measurements but they can still fix wrongly even though Mr E was there to monitor daily! (If you are buying your own ceiling fans, think it will be better to get the shop to install them instead of the electrical team. They didn't do a good job to balance the fans). Ah Gui (carpenter) is nice & easy-to-talk-to and his workmanship is pretty good too. Ah Beng (plumber) is true to his name, really an ah beng! He does work fast but prone to eating snake. He disappeared quite often. Basically Mr E was there daily, met all of them and has all their numbers! -

Hi Vi, finally your renovation has started and you must be really eager to see it done and move in soon. Can totally understand your excitement! As what simplehuman said, keep a copy of the messages with Alan. We used whatsapp to communicate and till now, never deleted any message with him. It has served us very well when there were discrepancies & disagreements. Jia you! -

Hi simplehuman, we faced the exact plight as you. That's why we said, we can graduate to be a main contractor after our renovation with him. Seriously if we ever switch industry, I think we will give him a good run of his money. -

Hi yes we have gotten the Carysil! And it is one of the best buys ever! We got it from Royal Fanco (6299 0543) who gave us the lowest price among the shops in Jalan Besar. I can't remember the model but ours was a large single bowl 78cm long x 50cm wide. Price I vaguely remember as $300+... Think it's $380. -
Wow your living room is really big then! Lucky you!

Hmmm better be safe, spray loads of Baygon at all pipe openings. Check all corners, check if there are hollow tiles cos these are favourite hideouts for cockroaches. Also place all the mothballs everywhere as its smell will irritate all bugs

We bought our light bulbs from both Taobao and Aliexpress. Verdict: the Aliexpress LED lightbulbs are giving way now... Flickering after only 3 months' use! Aliexpress LED bulbs by Makanology, on Flickr The Taobao ones are still going strong! Best to stick to Taobao ones (crown-rated) or Tmall. -
I think material refers to the wiring and trunking to lay the lighting points. Usually house owner has to buy his/her own lights and bulbs. That's why so many of us buy from Taobao!

Your sofa looks huge and comfy; envious that your living room is so big to accommodate it!
-
Hi we experienced a lot of cockroaches after we received our keys. But we didn't conduct a professional fumigation. We sprayed cans of Baygon everywhere. When the renovation started, I think there was only cement, sand, tiles and no food for cockroaches so they just disappeared
-
Yes you are right. Your current place looks nice but seems hard to maintain and not child-friendly. Guess you really have to renovate it. Hope you will be staying elsewhere during the renovation
-
Your current place looks really nice! Are you going to change much of the look?

Saw this great article for DIY projects and most look fairly manageable http://www.buzzfeed.com/peggy/cheap-and-easy-decorating-hacks-that-are-borderline-geniu?utm_campaign=socialflow&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=buzzfeed&s=mobile -
Maybe you can add your selected floor tile and superimpose around the peranakan tiles? Then it will give you a better idea of the design to choose? IMHO, from left to right: Design 1 makes the area look longer. Design 2 looks too 'balanced' and 'fabricated' Design 3 makes it look broader.

Black marker to touch up the laminate is not acceptable. It is something that a layman / noob like me will do if I damage the laminate myself and don't want to pay for a replacement. But for a professional like them, this is ridiculous. Fight for your right!

You have moved in? Congrats!

I agree but it is so hard to find that here

Very nicely done. A pity that this will be tenanted out. Am sure your new tenants will appreciate all the hard work put in to make it look so splendid!
-
Nice and comfy and pleasing to the eye; congrats!

Haha welcome to the club then

The matching pair of chairs, so cute, especially the 'mini-me'!
