All Tanglin Halt Road Neighbours! Report In Here!

My level is cleaner now, although not a very throughout job. Ha, I was half thinking my contractor asked them to clean it up since he mumbled something about getting the town council people to help us clean the corridor. Anyway, just in time as I've just finished the main reno works. I'm still really gross out by those millipedes! Especially the big ones where I can see their feelers visibly without bending down. -
Info: Calculate Your Energy Consumption Fro Aircon
JS21 replied to neotan's topic in Electronics & Electricals
I also used this website to help me calculate the energy consumption and decide on my fridge model. From this site, it seems the energy consumption for a 300L & 500L fridge is not much different for the models I was eyeing at, that's why I chose the 500L model in the end. However I also think it's probably not very accurate, but no regrets choosing a more spacious fridge! -
I think Ikea kitchen are expensive, they charge one price for the materials, another for installation, and their salespeople are not helpful at all. Ikea products are also never known for quality. I can get similar cheaper ones from contractors.

Personally I think Maxcoil is not exactly cheap! They market themselves as the affordable mattress company similar to the top brands but easier on the pockets..yet if you really look carefully..not cheap at all! $2000+ for just the mattress from this kuching kurak brand is very expensive to me. Moreover, they anyhow quote prices, one salesman at IMM quote me one price. A saleslady at the same outlet in IMM quoted me another more expensive price for what I believe is the same mattress. And you can easily call their distributor and get a much cheaper price..try the yellow pages.

How Much Are You Willing To Pay For A Dining Table?
JS21 replied to ahberden's topic in Home Furnishings
Err.. story not fantastic enough to start another thread lah. hehe..share share here.. I heard from the marble supplier that before Taka was built, they consulted fengshui experts (as usual), who studied the history of the site and found out that it was previously a burial ground, very inauspicious for commerical buildings. so they advised the architects to use red granite in the construction of Taka to ward off the evil and bad luck. Red granite was chosen because the poison in it is able to counter the negativities of the burial ground. I actually did a google search on Taka and the burial ground truth...just for interest sake, here's what I found: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orchard_Road http://www.ngeeann.com.sg/webtop/property.phtml -

Cos granite give off constant radon gases which is poison to our bodies. For myself, I prefer not to take the risk even though nothing bad has been officially said about granite, still you can easily google to read reports about radon in granite. Imagine putting food on radioactive granite tabletops on a daily basis and eating them thereafter... According to the marble supplier I bought from, red and black granite are the most poisonous. Ever wonder why Takashimaya is cladded in red granite slabs...there's a story to that too. On the contrary, I've read glowing health reviews about lavastones, and personally my husband placed lavastones in the plants we grow, and they're growing well now when before the leaves were always turning yellow. so I believe there's an effect (albeit positive or negative) of these stones on living things. -

The black granites are indeed very beautiful, I was once eyeing at the blue pearl and black galaxy granite, but for health reasons, decided not to go for granite. -

I've seen giallo cinesa onyx top (yellow wavy band onyx), I pretty much love the onyx look (green, honey or giallo cinesa), which is translucent and can be lit up from beneath like a lantern to give an illuminating effect. The idea and designing is the easy part, the implementation is tedious and difficult. -

Perhaps you can try custom making your own granite dining top, if you really like granite alot. Meaning, buy a stainless steel structure with glass top, then replace the glass top with your choice table top. But make sure the structure is strong enough to hold the weight of the granite. For me, granite has a very busy look, I prefer marble tops. Btw, I read before that buying quality dining chairs is more important than an expensive dining top. -

Can't believe I'm moving in today!! I was crazy packing at 10pm last night till wee hours of the morning. My house is not totally ready, but flooring is 100% done + wardrobes 90%, husband said it's ok, can move already! -
My heart was set on Carrara White marble backsplash right from the beginning. I asked my contractor to quote for installation of marble backsplash, I'll purchase the marble on my own. Up till now, 50% into reno, no quotation from him. Then while into reno, he was pushing for glass backsplash, and briefly said $20 per foor iirc. If he quoted while I was collecting quotation, I believe he would've quoted lower. Now, little room for negotiation. Sickening. And I still want my marble backsplash! Anyway, I quite like the ikea backsplash where you can use it as a writing board. Thinking of installing that above my kitchen table, opposite side of kitchen.

Some parts of a fake tree are made from the real tree, that's how they make some of them look pretty realistic. Can see pretty good quality fake trees at Concourse.

Actually I read through the whole thread..lol..the pricing was $200 more expensive 3 months ago, although the vouchers were $300 more (PV42). indeed, very strange marketing tactic. The best offer from what I see was the recent Sitex, too bad I only knew about it 1 day after the promo ended. Is there any more such exhibitions comng up??
-
Serious! Previously $500 vouchers...hmm.. But was the price the same? Looks like I've to go without TV for quite a while.. Actually I haven't gotten my TV console..so still can wait a while. Grrr....
-
Huh? I thought the offers should be getting better instead of worse.

Also, another question on the concealed electrical point for my wall fans. The electrician idea of concealing is to plug the pinhead on my existing point and conceal from there. He wants to charge $80 for each concealment. My husband wants him to create a new switchpoint specially for the fan just beside the wall fan. The electrician said it's not possible to create a switch point so high up, just beside the wall fan. And he said if we want a new switch point, he has to charge more than $80. Who is correct? My husband said the electrician idea of concealing our wall fan switch is very stupid. Haiz, today supposed to do the electrical works, now it's delayed again. -

I'll be painting on Saturday..probably will look and smell horrible. Anyone wants to meet me? Ok, just kidding. I've got a question to ask about acid washing. My contract states acid washing, but I've been highlighted a few times that the acid wash might spoil my marble and timber flooring. Is that true? My friend told me the effect of the acid might not be seen immediately, but the detrimental effects of the acid wash on the marble flooring might show up later. I've checked with my contractor before, he said the acid is very mild acid, just enough to suck out the dirt, which cannot be suck up easily by normal wahsing. (At least that's the impresion he gave). So, should I still go ahead with the acid washing, or is it possible for me to do the washing myself, and save the $180 he's charging? -
In my recent trip to Taiwan, there were only 2 of us, my husband and I in the tour group. The good thing is no waiting time for others. The bad thing is because there're only the 3 of us, inclusive of the guide, we did not have nice restaurant meals as our tour guide has difficulties catering to only 3 people. Also, we had to entertain him and listen to his stories and boasting about how great the Taiwanese are, with many great inventions....blah blah blah

Ya, those millipedes are disgusting! I saw a particulary big black one. GROSS!! !! Why can't the town council fumigate the place to kill these pests? -
Is there any way at all to get back this promotion??? !! Grrr....I wanted to get this TV, then realised too late that Sitex is selling for this fantastic price. Can I just tell them I was overseas and missed the promo, so that I can have it back???

Oil industry. That's why I put down, LADY boss..hehe.. I was also quite fed-up with this rule initially, but now, immuned liao. Sometimes the HR lady sees me in my lok-kok pants, I'll quicky zoom past her, so that she can't stop me and tell me off.
-
Yalor!! Supposed to wear a skirt or dress EVERYDAY because the lady boss doesn't like the women in the office to wear pants. But I don't follow this rule lah, don't care! As long as I don't go upstairs where the HR lady is seated, she can't catch me. But if I know I'd be seeing her eg. to get leave form, etc, then that day, I'll make sure I wear a skirt/dress.
