  1. OHHH! U mean thats usually a painter's job? Painter seal with what? Is it painter's silicon? Or with those plaster white powder? Cos hear that there are 2 types of silicon
  2. My cutie pets Notti girls Hee I know this is out of topic, but just wan to share pic of my hammie too. Then hor, I think my nephew look like the precious moment figurine face.
  3. I regret my light pruchase - cos I think the starter or ballast like not very good. Cos after installed all lights, always got this light keep flickering when turn on the switch. No brand type of starter/ bulb/ ballast. My purchase is from De Lit*. Its a long kitchen tube, consisting of 2 tubes, and 2 starters. No matter how I exchange the tubes, or exchange the starters.. always flicker. Until I change both starters to Philips brand. Then ok leow. May I know how come the starters will give out light when flickering before the light comes on? The 'lousy' starter give off a blue light. The Philip starter give out pink lights. Folks, please advise me on which are the better type of starters/ light bulbs / ballast. Hear of such brands, but pretty confusing 1. Atcos 2. Osram 3. Philips 4. Akira (my ID give me Akira PLC light bulbs, Philips halogen lights) But out of these brands, will it be some made in Indonesia, some really made in Australia? So is it Indonesia is not good?
  4. Hmmm thanks.. shall think abt it.. (thou wld prefer to have the hole). Actually isnt it just to drill the hole, how come got a rim around the hole? It's to protect the floor from cracking?
  5. Your ID / contractor ok to seal the gaps for u? I requested my ID to do it for me, but he said usually they do only if the whole house is plastered by them. Did I ask for too much? I just want him to help to apply some plaster powder to seal the gaps along the electrical casings. My home not a lot of casings actually. If its too much, maybe I just do it myself. Which I did, I used the painter's silicon and seal up most of the holes. But heard use silicon is not so good, cos will become black stains in the future.
  6. wah i love the mao mao cong mat! we bought 3 mats, end up lousy stuff, cos the moment we wip our feet on it, little bits of fur come loose and float around. got from ntuc fairprice $7.90 and super lousy. i like your placemat - wow so stylish! i got my placemats from carrefour, at $2.95 each. i try to post a pic if can. its plastic transparent but comes with black stripes. the other problem is that it says heat resistant, but i dunno how resistance it is lor. yrs is nice and somemore cheaper - thumbs up.
  7. KiKi, Its $1.5k for my curtains.. I sourced a few other places (incl JB) and Jimm* seems to be the most competitive, considering the type of cloth I opted for. Anyway I also din hv time to source many places. I make full length for my living room + MBR (day n night). Other 2 common room use short length curtains. MBR also has a roman blind for the aircon window. But I feel workmanship only so so. Maybe my curtains were done in a rush cos I told them I need it in 2 weeks time. But anyway still quite love my curtains.. I hear if you buy cloth and get someone (seamstress/ home maker) to sew for u may be even cheaper. But maybe installing tracks u got to do it yrself? Applefreak, no wind leh! Veri hot at night. The wind comes to my place for half a year only. The only half a year the wind blows in the opposite direction (and I got no windows there).
  8. OMG! My ID is full of s*i*. I know why Im so bad luck - this is not my year - waiting for Rat year to come faster! No wonder do everything also super jia lat.
  9. Hi...my ID recently installed my kitchen tap to my kitchen stainless steel sink. This weekend I started to use the tap to do some washing, and then realised a big puddle of water (sizze of my palm) on the laminated wood of the base of my kitchen cabinet! It leaks! So is it must apply silicon around the tap base to seal any gaps? Actually after the kitchen sink was installed, I found the tap to be shaky (not firmly attached) when pushed. I asked my ID why - I tot it was a shoddy job done, and I also asked why no silicon applied. He replied to say that silicon is only applied if the plumbing job is not done properly then need to apply silicon to 'hide' the flaws. He said if its a job well done, then there will be no need to apply silicon. I asked why the tap is not firm/can be shaky. His reply is that cos I use a stainless steel sink - kitchen tap attached to a stainless steel sink is always shaky cos the stainless steel is 'thin' compared to a granite sink. If the tap is attached to a granite sink, the granite will serve as a strong base for the kitchen tap to be drilled and attached. So for my S/s sink, nothing can be done to the tap Lucky I discovered it early - otherwise who knows if the wooden part below the sink will be soaked with water? Anyone encountered this problem b4? Any solution - beside to fill with silicon at the base of the kitchen tap? Thanks.
  10. yes, double windows (double cost , double washing to do...) Check yr PM. I got from Jimm* Textile*. Am looking for contacts to do a store room rack! Any recommendations?
  11. I better go n check mine. mine is also installed by A plus! Is the silicon used to seal the pipe which goes thru the shower screen white or transparent? I used the kind that the painter used. Is it correct? The plumber after installing the piping did not even put silicon to seal the hole in the shower screen. I had to borrow the painter silicon to DIY myself.
  12. HI Mace.. I tot I pM u my ID already?? OK, I pm right now..
  13. I'm asking my ID to drill a hole onto my homogenous tiles at the front door kerb, so that HDB door and the HDB grilles can push that 'latch' down into the hole. HDB door and grille comes with 2 latches - one to push up and another to push down. ID says no need to drill a hole in the homo tiles. He said the top one is good enough, and furthermore nobody drill a hole on the homo tiles cos homo tiles will crack easily. He said drill a hole on the door kerb is an old fashioned method which is used on ceramic tiles only (cos ceramic tiles dont crack). Is this how u all go about it?? I got to ask here for feedback, cos no longer trust my ID already... (always got many excuses!) I see someone in my area having this.. i think theirs is also homo tiles leh, and they manage to drill the hole - see pic.
  14. Looks better after I put my day curtain inside, and night curtain outside.
  15. But workmanship is only so so (not as good as I expected it to be). Mine is from one of those recommended in the forum. Maybe they did my curtains in a rush?
  16. I found two pcs of styrofoam-like looking thing inside the cooling unit (lower door) of the fridge. Is this normal? Mine is the Hitachi ZM540AM fridge. http://www.hitachiconsumer.com/sg/products...=635&tid=71
  17. Living Room Guest Room Study Room (nothing much) MBR curtains
  18. I understand that HDB wall are slanted, and are rough, not smooth. Besides plastering cost $ too. So rough walls are ok with me. But those big specks (see pic) are quite big, and looks dangerous (if young kids scratch them). My ID never spotted it and I just notice it now, so tot of asking my ID to remove them. But Im already past the touch up stage, final paint touch up. Me ID never seem to inspect the works done by his workers. I somehow feel his job is to arrange / coordinate workers to come n do the job only. Whether is it a job welldone a not, he dont seem to notice. Cos I seem to spot so many 'flaws' here n there. Know something, Mace - the thread at Brides.com about this ID is deleted! Someone mentioned it.... ooohh..
  19. Pictures : Even before handover to me, the grouting all looks so dirty....
  20. Is this shoddy works, or is this acceptable? Should be the the tiler never do a good job (nvr clean that cement?), thats why got that streak above the skirting, right? That streak is part of HDB wall right? I asked my ID if the skirting can make it rounded, and not so sharp at the edges. He said cannot. Is it true? he said only timber skriting can make rounded, but not for tile skirting. I keep thinking its very dangerous to have such sharp skirting edges. How about these dots/ specks on the wall? Is this usually come with HDB walls? Or drops of cement dropped on the wall and not cleaned off?
  21. The ID left 2 packets of grout at my store room - 2 kinds, one is yellowish beige powder, and the other is white powder. I tried myself -- just mix water and apply on the grouts, then use cloth to wipe it on the surface. What comes off means cannot stay. And it really come off!! Oh no, is it normal? Is there no way out? Is this issue only happens to homo tiles? How about for marble? My ID says disclouration also cant be helped = my living room also got brownish stains at some groutings area. Or is it they use some lousy kind of grout?

    Duro Gate Lock

Just bought the Duro Lock model Art 338 at the promo price of $148. But I cant lock it onto my grilles (HDB grilles). I called the DIY Home Fix shop and enquired about fixing up the lock. They then gave me their supplier tel no. I called and he very nice say can come down to my place to check for me. I tot so good service. Then turned out he said I muz pay $20 for his trip! Wahh...I want to save that $20 if I can. So anyone can advise? Anyone use it before? http://www.duro.com.sg/diy.html Mine is the standard HDB 3 panel gate. I'm stuck between step no. 4 and 5. I can't fasten D and E together. My HDb grills seems "too fat" - I tried to push in my lock, and in turn even scrapping off the paint in process. But still cant push all the way in. Got stuck outside, so D& E cant be fastened together.
