I foresee you'll have loads of fun shopping for your new kitchen
-
Your choice of laminate colours is definitely bold. And I think together with your accessories (or future ones) and wall/floor tiles, your kitchen will be very unique! Not sure what handles are available here, but I feel it'd be good to use one-of-a-kind handles with your cabinets. Otherwise, no handles imho.

That's fast, and looks nice. Can't wait to see the end result!

The String looks nicer than Ikea's and the price is not significantly higher. I like the fact it's adjustable. I'd choose the String!
-
No need to apologise, Makan! The cream one is lovely too Lucky you to get the last green one, hope you'll enjoy it With only a few units left and the model being discontinued, I better hurry up and snatch one up!
-
Thanks for the tip! Does this model only come in cream colour or are there other colours as well?
-
I've been to BD quite a few times but never paid attention... Thanks for the info, will drop by Mustafa soon if I get the chance!
-
From Mustafa, then the price should be ok I guess? I've been eyeing something like since last year. But but...when I showed the pic of the fan and some other retro-looking clock to my hubby, he said "if these are what you call retro, then they're ugly." hmmm, got to find a way to get him to like them
-
This is great! Where did you get it? So you will put this on the Ikea stool (after it comes out from your storeroom)?
-
Ooh, these are all very nice! A bit hard to decide, but maybe I'd go for contrasting colours
-
Agreed, you have picked some nice colours for your place!
-
Hooray! Very happy for you

No, I use my hands to do the "cutting", so not sure how KA performs in this aspect. Probably experts like Vanessa can enlighten you, sorry Oh, I guess she already did!

I lived in the States for several years. And owned a Kitchen Aid mixer (Artisan series) for 5-6 years. Still going strong when I left it behind. It is heavy duty, powerful, and you can use it to mix dough for breads, whip cream, whip egg whites and my friends even used it to make meat balls (the type with springy texture). Won't wobble at high speeds even though it doesn't have those suction cup thingys at the bottom. I only use it for baking but you can buy other accessories to do other things (grind food, make ice cream etc). Oh, and if you do decide to buy one, I recommend you buy a 3 quart bowl as well (the Artisan comes with 5 quart bowl). I find the 3 quart bowl very handy!

Sigh, I miss my Kitchen Aid... Used to have a pistachio green one that's cute and retro-looking but left it with my sister when I came back. I considered buying another one in Singapore but the price is grossly marked up here!

IMHO, I would choose to hack to make the space more spacious and airy, not to mention that your nice peranakan tiles can be admired from the dining area too! But if you choose to retain that wall, I think maybe white tiles on your island may be easier to coordinate with your furnishings. I have all white kitchen island and solid top and it looks fine to me. Or, if you can find a much smaller version of the peranakan tiles, maybe you can intersperse with white tiles so it's not too plain and at the same time incorporates your kitchen theme. Agree that wood laminates may be too "woody". You know what you like best so I'm sure no matter what you end up deciding to do will be great!
-
If you're someone who collects teacups and such like me, then I think it's a good idea to have something like the Lack shelf to display them. You and your guests will be able to admire them! As for your island facing the dining area, I personally like tiles. But the most important thing is to choose something that will blend in with your dining area furnishings/colour scheme.

Yah, I have all white too, with a few wood-grained ones. Hope my whites will last me a while... My ID said to choose thicker laminates do they don't warp as easily over time. I only looked at Admira and Jennings and I picked the Jennings glossy white (2 mm thick).
-
I also read about a forumer who initially planned to use silver laminate. The 3D looked really nice, but he had to give up because the laminate he picked was way to ex, maybe about 4 times more than normal
-
That's too bad indeed! Did you obtain PE endorsement to hack all those walls away? Nothing was said about those 2 beams? If they are structural beams, the PE should have informed you
-
Wow, it is quite ex!! Do you mean something like this? http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/933/7800388446e811e17fa2.jpg (courtesy of Paloma's blog) I think this will be great too, plus you can move it anywhere you want
-
Yeah, mine is also an older resale condo and while it's pretty well-maintained for its age, the bathrooms and kitchen are somewhat dated hence fairly extensive reno required. As for the vento fino fan, I think it's really cute and will be good if you can successfully work it into your dining area!
-
Congrats! Can really feel your excitement!

The Peranakan tile has my vote!

Took a look at the CB2 website, they have some nice stuff! Will need to check it out after I'm done moving and unpacking
