  1. Since your ID wanna gaodim for you, then good. I got one tip for future home owner reading this, if you want to engage your own " floor laminator", find out how much it will cost, then ask your ID to do the same quote for the same floor area. If it's not too far away (less than $50), then go through your ID to get it done. If too expensive, show your ID the quote you got from the "floor laminator", if he's willing to lower the price, then let ID settle. Cheaper by a bit not worth the hassle, ID is like the buffer ...
  2. Powerdekor also quite something lor, didn't they realise this when they lay the laminates? Now they still got cheek to ask extras from you?? That's like bad worksmanship liao.. Mine was Supreme, before they lay the laminates, there will be a layer of foam underneath the laminates. There's also a optional layer of 3mm rubber (which I have to pay extra if I wanted it). But they said not much difference with or without the rubber since it's overlay on existing tiles. While laying, they realised the entrance to the bedroom area feels a bit sunken in, so they stuffed in one small piece underneath that area to level it up. I was present at that time, I saw them walking around to test, they said more troublesome for them if I were to find out later and they have to redo, so might as well do it perfect now. No doubt they are quite good, but I admit that I had a hard time choosing the laminates, can't find a piece that I like frankly..
  3. Mine was slightly sunken in also, but the laminates installer realised it in time, he told me he will be putting a layer of rubber below that area to fill up the gap.
  4. You have to open them up and see? I think homo tiles have sharp edges, while the top edge of ceramic tiles are rounded?
  5. It largely depends on the country of manufacture, some of the curtain material are from European countries, naturally much more expensive. How much it will cost will depends on what you chose ..
  6. Drop the $500 deposit ID firm, money out easy, money back difficult. That is not a standard practice. Sometimes, you can only get a rough quote from floorplans. Since you need to overhaul the entire place, it's easier for them to pay a visit, they can estimate what needs to be hacked and changed. The quote will be more accurate.
  7. Haha, I think TS meant homo tiles for flooring with wood skirting. So when they do chemical wash for the tiles, the skirting absorbed all the water/chemical as well. I was thinking of that combination for my living room before, but my ID advised against it.
  8. I'm sure they would still want the last bit of the 5% (easily $1500 to $2000?) That could be your only chip against them. Alternatively, you can ask your ID nicely, I see no reason why they should leave it like that, they are running the risk of "free advertising". Some customers might just take pictures of incompleted jobs and post it on the forum. This is done by XXXX Interior Design, and this is their so called standard.
  9. Since the damaged is done by the people doing the general washing, the ID will have to be responsible for the replacement for free. There's no reason why the owners should pay for that when they haven't even move in yet. The ID should be experienced enough to know such things might happen... not the house owners.
  10. Towards the end you will find a lot of unsatisfactories. Such as .. - paint on your window grills - bad worksmanship for your carpentry interiors - grouting came off after chemical washing - laminated floor scratched after doing carpentry - holes here and there waiting to be patched up - etc.. Since you still hold the last 5%, keep holding on to it until it's all cleared to your satisfaction. If not don't pay up.
  11. Shouldn't it be covered under some warranty? Mine was from Supreme, they claimed that there will be lifetime warranty for their products. During carpentry period (before I moved in), I found an obvious scratch on the laminate, I called them up and they came down to change that piece.
  12. Hi tingshen, mine's done like that ... The wood is standard, straight, but the wall is not, esp the part with the skirting, doesn't make sense to leave a gap there also, so they cut off a little corner at the bottom to accomodate the skirting. As for the wall, they just push it as close as possible, then "seal it" up with this white rubbery putty, it's fine if your laminates are white/black/brown and your wall is the same color, doesn't look obvious. But if your wall/laminate is some other color, they might have to paint over the putty.
  13. From a distance it looks ok, but when you go near, you can see it quite clearly.. But i guess after a while, we get used to it .. It's only the initial stage that we want it to be nice and perfect.
  14. I paid up full already also, but my ID said it's okay to call her if I find anything amiss or anything needs to be corrected, so far haven't activate her yet. heheh. Mine is about the same also, the light brown (edge) of the wood with PVC is exposed. When I asked the carpenters about it, they merely painted it over with a white paint marker, I think that's what they would do if you ask them over for rectification.
  15. I doubt there's much they can do about it .. For those extra holes, they will just patch it up with some white paste which bulges up that area .. else, they will have to replace the entire wood, which is impossible. Doors, you can still get them to retune them nicely. Have you paid full already?
  16. Mine has reasonable finishing on the exterior ... edges "sealed" up using a black marker (for black laminate).. The insides are not so good, extra holes from drilling in wrong positions and other issues. Too tired to chase already, let it pass...
  17. Mine was around $900 for 12 lights, most of which are energy saving lamps.
  18. I saw something similar over at Singapore Brides, those folks there might have a better answer? http://www.singaporebrides.com/forumboard/...html?1184386905
  19. My laminates are black / dark grey.. I think the carpenter simply used a black paint marker to draw over, if you can find maple color or something close, should be done the same way..
  20. Mine was old tiles from previous owner, they just swept it clean and they started to do the laminated flooring. Acceptable cleanliness.
  21. Hey, was it stated in the agreement how much you have to pay first to start work? Mine has a 15%, 40%, 40%, 5%, agreed upon on both sides. If it's not stated, then they can ask for any amount, and you can give/don't give in, but end up both unhappy. If it's stated, but you don't give, of course they play punk also... My ID told me some stories about some of her clients, some of them refused to pay up after the agreed 10%, 40%, 40%, 10% arrangements, but she went ahead and complete the renovation anyway, they still delay the payment for almost 1/2 a court and they have to go to court to settle. The ID themselves has to safeguard against such issues also, so it's good if it's stated clearly how/when the staggered payment must be paid for what to start ... As a guide... 15% start work, select tiles, select paint, select laminate, drawings, designs etc 40% wetworks, wall finishing complete. 40% carpentry start 5% check for defects, happy then pay..
  22. It's done by carpenters, designed by interior designers. You can also check out interior magazines, see what you liked, then find your own carpenters to do it.
  23. When I bought all my lights from Pantech@Jurong East, the guy mentioned that he replaced all the ballast that will be from Australia. There's a logo of a kangeroo on the ballast and the words "Made in Australia", I checked them when it was delivered.
  24. Mine was delayed for about a week plus because of carpentry and some other rectification. But then again, I didn't give my ID a fixed confirmed date to complete the entire renovation either, because I wasn't in a rush to move in. Then I realised it's a bit past schedule, and I already booked my movers, so gave my ID final deadline, it was a mad rush and she did quite well in pressurising the carpenters to speed up also. In the end, move in already, still got little rectifications here and there. haha.
  25. I had a little chat with a common neighbour on such issues, people who throw their clutter all over the common corridor and it's useless to go to Town Council, there's nothing much they can do about it ... he suggested setting all the rubbish on fire...=)
