Approval will be required when the structural members or water proofing membrance have been affected.. In this conversion, no hacking is involved nor anything have been removed. The floor definitely can stand the 50Kg weight.. there should not be any approval issue here.. If the silicone seal were to breakdown, there is still the cement plaster foam that will keep the seal tight; .furthermore, no waste will backflow unless the sewage pipe is clogged, then, this conversion is better than original because it has double water sealing and the seal is much higher now

one does not need any PVC strip if one uses the DIY mosquito net from ebay.. they provide a Velcro strip to hold onto the net.. the net when when complete is transparent whether in black or in white color. The correct way to install these net is to just lay them to the Velcro strip without stretching the net.. this way, the Velcro will stick to clean surface or else, they might just "tear".. It is not difficult to paste Formica to plywoods.. you will need some tools such as formica cutter, D-clamps and some timber strips.. go buy a can of cement glue and a paint brush and some sand paper. Cut the plywood and formica to size. Clean the plywood and formica and then apply the cement glue evenly on both surfaces using the paint brush. Let dry the glue until it won't stick fingers, then stick both surfaces together. Using timber strips and D-clamp to apply pressure for good adhesion.. Anyone ever DIY to convert squatting to sitting toilet pan? The usual way is to hack out the squatting pan to free the sewage pipe, install and connect up the sitting pan, then re-do the tilings. The work will take about 4 days and cost around $850-$1,100 depending on the tiling work done.. The other problem I would have is that the centre of the new 100 mm PVC pipe would be around 300 mm (12") from the wall and the centre of the sitting toilet pipe outlet is 260mm (10"). Fortunately, I could get a 50mm (2") $10/= pan collar to match..

Putting the sitting pan on top of the squatting pan with nice fitting, having the pan matching the edges should work as shown in the drawing.. I remembered someone converted it DIY. The only worry is that the squatting pan may crack with the additional weight of 40 kg of sitting pan but porcelains are tough. Its edges should be able to withstand although the pan and the bottom may not as they are not designed to have any weight on them; hence, the use of chopped foam or fiber mixed with white cement just to fill up the hole. I don't normally trust what Contractor said or quote. Have a toilet water leaked caused by a pipe concealed in the brick wall duct. The only access to the pipe is an access hole at the ceiling height. Visually can't see where the leak was. The Contractor quoted about $850 saying that he would have to hack open the wall along the pipe to find the leak and the hacked wall will have to be re-tiled. In doing so, the sitting pan would have to be changed as it will crack when removed. The total would come to about $1,100/= and the work would take about 4 days. I got hold of my tiny web cam camera, lowered it down into the duct and recorded a video and finally found the leaking area. Then I hacked a small hole of size 100x100 to repair the leaking pipe. The repair cost me less than $50/= and took me less than 2 days including buying the tools and the repair materials..

Contractor just email saying that hacking is necessary to remove the pan and connect the pipe. This may be the standard way. the quote for workmanship is around $400/= . I see no reason the system will not work If the pipe can be inserted and seal up silicone glue then whole squatting pan filled up with lightweight plaster mix. it will be like having to introduce another S pipe. Since the sitting pan S pipe is higher than squatting pan, the water resistance of the additional squatting pan S pipe should not be a problem. Remember someone did this kind of modification before. Any comment?

Was thinking about changing squatting to seating toilets. What do they do exactly? Do they hack out the squatting toilet pan or do they just left the pan alone and install the 100mm PVC pipe then seal and cover up the whole squatting pan with white plaster and sand mix? Can see that the base of sitting toilet can just cover the whole of the squatting pan, there is no need to re-tile the floor if there is no hacking involve.. is that correct?

Don't anyhow drill on walls if you have concealed wiring in the wall.. you may hit an electrical cable, water or gas pipe and the damage can be more than imagine.. find out where the cables and pipes are before drilling

It will be alright if you get supply from a 3 pin socket outlet using any extension socket outliet available from the supermart but it is illegal to install any socket outlet on the wall and connect the wires to any household wirings or circuit breakers. One would have to get a registered electricain registered with EMA to do such wirings.

The heat pumps can supply hot and cold water depending on the setting. One could set temperature as low as 18C and as high as 40C. Good thing about it is that it can save more than 80% cooling bills (not electricity bills as there are many other appliances in a home). Don't think the serviceman was giving correct advice. The pipe you mentioned must be condensate pipe for draining water from the indoor unit. When this pipe is choked, water will not flow into the drain and would over flow from the indoor unit so one would get wet floor. Nothing to do with air conditioner gas leak or even air conditioning performance. Having the choked pipe clear is the solution. If you can locate the pipe either from the indoor unit or the drain to where to pipe is connected, using water main's pressure should clear it by connecting the pipe to a water pipe. Make sure you have a big bucket and plastic sheet ready just in case of water flowing or dripping from the indoor unit.

The claim of faulty wires from Singapore is absolutely unfounded. Electric wires comes under preview of Authority for safe use and they are tested by to Standards. If any, the electrician was supplying inferior product not to wiring regulations. Usually, approved wirings are likely to have stampings on them as a standard. Very often, the house wirings to power points etc are done by licensed electricians who would not dare to cheat as their licence is at stake but the air conditioning contractors might because running wires from power points to air conditioner is not regulated. It is always advisable either to run double sheathed wires when burying direct in cement or have single sheathed wire running in conduits. This is because some cement can attack PVC wirings.

Good ones from Ikea, Supermarkets are not cheap.. for bulbs alone, a 5 Watts would cost at least $16/=. Fitting with bulb cost even more.. but if one not too fusy about quality, can source from ebay or Q0010 online, they may cost less than $10/= from China. Need to avoid concealed water pipes and wirings too. It is wise to invest in a miniature metal detector that can detect all sort of metal object including reinforcement of the concrete beams and walls. they are pretty cheap and available from Sim Lim Tower for something less than $25/=. Save a lot of headches..
