  1. thanks for agreeing with me! i'm getting quite frustrated to be honest
  2. One of my biggest complain of this reno is the lousy paintwork done by the contractor. i have been getting them to fix up the paintwork again and again until I'm getting very sick of pointing out the unsatisfactory work done.. sigh Is it me who is too critical of the work or is this really shabby work In your opinion? It drives me nuts to have to ask them to rework on the paintwork and i even suggested to the contractor that they probably should change the painter. No offense, but the old uncle who is doing the painting no doubt is hardworking but i think his eyesight is failing… how could he think that i wouldn't be able to see the shabby paint job that is being done?
  3. one more week to shifting! been spending the weekend at the new apt waiting for bed delivery, mattress delivery, installation of the CCTV, installation of store-room shelves, etc etc…all i can say is… 好累啊! anyway just quick updates and let the pics do the talking instead: quirky moustache door-mat Bar area filled with alcohol, the BF is very happy man! The nescafe gusto coffee machine, compliments from amex card… hehe Tv wall-mounted inside the MBR, just an old 40inch LCD TV. costs $40 to get it mounted professionally The bed frame being fixed up by the guys from AIR and they are very nice to help me wrapped up the bed-head again after fixing up cos i need my contractor to do some touchups on paintwork
  4. found an interesting video on youtube that compares the different brands of vacuum cleaner haha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kes8J9Hc0uk makes me all the more determine to purchase a new vacuum cleaner! I'm currently using a dyson but it's rather old and the telescopic tool needs to be replaced (or maybe just finding fault with it so that i could get a new one). saw the miele S8 and i was pretty attracted to it... don't get me wrong, it's not just about the looks.. but i have been hearing great reviews on miele's products and thought maybe it's time to give it a shot hehehe. do you know that the handle comes with spotlight? how cool is that! I'm impressed!
  5. drawer underneath the sink drawer underneath the stove
  6. random postings of the kitchen cabinets managed to fit the microwave fitted by developer into the tall boy cabinet & kept it hidden Just need to remove the stainless steel frame around the microwave as the microwave is supposed to be built-in type, now it became standalone microwave! thanks to a friend from HN who gave me the suggestion The drawers are beautifully done with matching internal lining
  7. The renovation is finally coming to an end... pardon the lack of new pictures as the contractor is busy doing all the touch-ups and stuff. So it's time for me to get busy and get the outdoor decking sorted out. After scouring the net for more info on the various wood decking options available, I must say that it gets more confusing as one goes along. some info available on the different wood options for outdoor decking are as follows: http://www.evorich.com.sg/readmore_detail.aspx?id=18 - info on chengal wood, iron-wood & balau wood http://www.wooddoctor.com.sg/Home.html - info on HEVEATECH eco-friendly wood After meeting various suppliers for the timber decking, I must say i am sold on the idea of the HEVEATECH wood decking based on the following points: - 25 years structural warranty - Lifetime warranty against termites attack - Heveatech features up to 50% less expansion and contraction compared to solid Chengal - Eco-friendly: Different from trees specially planted and felled for commercial purposes, Heveatech is made from reclaimed plantation-grown timber, namely 25 to 30 year old Hevea (rubber) trees that have reach the end of its latex-producing lifespan As for price-wise, prices for heveatech, chengal, iron-wood and african exotic wood are pretty close thus it makes the decision -making factor so tough. Given the above benefits of the heveatech, i hope that i am making the right decision to use that for my patio. It helps that the price fits my tight budget (i have a large patio of ard 200 sq ft). Here are some pics of the decking which had been installed using Heveatech: (pics from WOOD DOCTOR) Looks pretty good i must say.. hopefully they will do a good job for me as well! I was presented with the color board to choose for my deck, i think i would go for No.3 (which is the same as the pics above). Safe choice i reckon? No.4 would be too dark ?
  8. oh yes tell me about it... even the haiku fan's price shot up so fast.. from 600-700+ early last year to now around 1.1 to 1.3k i think... it's just ridiculous! i haven't been to chan huat though.. thanks for the info and i will pop by to see any nice pendent / chandelier which i seriously need to get it soon... still haven't found anything that's suitable and nice yet easy to the pocket.... sigh... thanks for ur compliments and looking forward to seeing u start ur own t-blog here! hehe
  9. finally bought the sonos playbar today and pre-ordered the subwoofer from paris-silk as well… the subwoofer should be avail 2nd week of Jan 2014 saw a promotion in harvey norman that day.. this time round, I'm going to take the opportunity to get the free bridge given if you buy PLAY 1, 3 or 5… undecided which one should we get though… any thoughts or feedback? Internet connection (fiber broadband) was also activated and set-up yesterday at the new place and so far we are quite happy with the speed (although we haven't tested it out by doing online streaming of shows). will share more about it when we shift in
  10. the issue was somewhat resolved and the problem lies in the slight color difference of the sample and the actual material that was supplied. The color of the sample which i had chose from is darker (black) Vs the actual supplied was like a faded black nearer to a very dark grey upon comparison. The contractor came down personally to explain to me that there's no mistake in the material and why it looks different is due to the tone of the color which is hard to control as the material was done in batches by the supplier. After looking at the original sample i had chosen, the reason why it looks matt and the speckles were less obvious is becos the color is kinda pure black thus the specks dun show up as much. the one that was installed has a lighter shade and thus making the specks looks more obvious. since no mistake was made by either parties and i don't wanna make things difficult for them, i guess i just have to accept the fact that no 2 stones can be the same. the overall look of the counter-top is still nice but just not perfect ...
  11. Hello sumobear, the LED I'm using at my apartment is supplied by a company called HIIGA. Maybe you can google for their FB page for more info. I think the crucial point should be the driver which they used it seems. I do agree that LED emit less heat and as for money-saving factor, i think unless you gonna switch on ur lights for a long period of time daily. The differences saved (on electricity bills) should be negligible other that the costs of replacing the light bulbs. The capital outlay for installing good LED lights are much higher than using non-LEDs thus it would be useful if you intend to stay put in the place for a longer period of time in order to make it more worthwhile. as for my electric works & lighting costs, i will PM you separately ok? actually my apartment is brand new, however i did a major reno and i hacked away the flooring at the kitchen/dining area and a small section just outside the bedrooms. you can see from the above that the area in RED was hacked and re-laid with new floor tiles. I hacked away the wall as well to combine the dining & kitchen together and make it an open concept kitchen. Hope the info helps! Btw, congrats on your new pad!
  12. Just when i thought the reno will be coming to an end.. the most horrible thing happened! I realized that the counter-top material was different from the one i had chosen initially!!!! i was cleaning the counter-top last night and the more i look at it, it dawned upon me that it does not look like the one i had chosen initially. I was going for the Silestone matt black top and they installed a glossy finish with small speckle (similar to granite but the grains are much smaller). Horrors of horrors!!!! i immediately search for the old pic i had taken during selection and wasspp the ID. During the conversation, many versions of the story started to appear. It range from "the supplier said the matt finish got no stock and not so recommended to use the matt finish" to "oh i think they don't carry it here and i think the glossy finish is actually better" to "i just called the supplier and i think they made a mistake". oh well, don't give me the bull****… my point is simple… if my original choice is not available, i should have been informed!!!!! that would allow me to decide if i wanna choose a different material from the same brand or go for alternative brands & material instead! Am i right? So anyway, i told the ID to better give me a good answer the next day (which is today) after he double-check with the supplier. He tried to convince me that the current finishing is nicer and matches the kitchen blah blah blah… honestly, I'm not keen to listen to that at this point of time. how suay seriously! FML!!!
  13. so in my earlier post, i mentioned that i will be customizing a outdoor dining table and here's how it looks like: (photo lifted off secondcharm's website) the dimensions for my table will be different from the pic above.. my customized table will measure 230cm (length) x 80cm (width) x 75cm (height) with a 3cm thickness in natural solid teak wood. the wood staining choices are below, guess which one did i choose? will unveil when it's delivered!
  14. thanks.. i knw it's pricey even at the discounted price.. i find it kinda pricey but im getting desperate like i said.. so just bite the bullet and buy it.. at least it's a loose piece i can always sell it away or bring it along with me if i were to shift again (hopefully not!) if i were to get it customised by the norm carpenter.. it would probably cost me ard 1.8 to 2.2k and they are not even using solid wood.. so forget it lor
  15. thanks to greg, i managed to customised my outdoor dining table as well... will look like the one in greg's place except i'm customising the size to be 2.3m in length...hopefully the table will be able to be delivered by mid-december. alot of things happening in december for sure! can't wait!
  16. greg, my kitchen sink size is 800x 400mm (bowl size) the actual dimensions (cos it's under-mount) is 850 x 505 mm so if your kitchen sink is smaller or similar size, it should fit i guess
  17. ohhhh.. i see! okie , i shall wait patiently for them to revert back then... anyway no matter at what costs, i LL have to shipped it in hahaha.. oh ya. i like the floor lamp alot.. saw a similar looking one in commune but more expensive.. thus decided to try the one from taobao... shall post pics when i get it hehe
  18. I have jumped into the wagon of purchasing stuff from taobao too (using peeka as the shipping agent) and was pleased with the prompt service by peeka. the items i have purchased are: For the kitchen http://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?id=21135688791 http://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?id=13657155542 Standing lamp & edison bulbs http://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?id=19959417184 http://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?id=22391468803 http://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?id=19074301711 Cushions & some other furnishing stuff http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=21255327704 http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=19455369894 http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=16118866935 The Tolix french industrial chairs for outdoor in 4 different colors http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=24050872826 Some posters: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=16452673262 http://buy4u.peeka.sg/featured/product/597608 i haven't been advised of the Shipping charges from china to spore yet even though the items are all purchased. Is that normal? Will they only advise me the shipping rates when they received the items in the warehouse?
  19. wow, u are early! i haven't got a chance to use all my loot yet... as for the largest cast iron pot.. i think i don't even have the strength to carry it back! ah yes.. the Q to pay is crazily long.. the worst part was when it's my turn to pay, the credit card machine wasn't working well! i almost went crazy cos rushing to head back to office hahahaha
  20. vann> not me heheh.. i went during my lunch hours on the first day of the sale between 12-2pm i think hehe luckily my office is nearby... but i must say that the cast iron pots are really heavy! i had to enlist my collg to help me to carry the purchases to the carpark! greg> Thanks greg! The foyer & living room walls are painted in the dark charcoal grey.. if im not wrong, the name is "carbon grey" from ICI Dulux.
  21. Shall place the industrial metal bookcase on this side of the wall. PERFECT! Some posters / paintings shall be placed along this side of the wall to create a gallery-like feel.. any thoughts?
  22. must ask RELITE product design department to come up with a matching color fan speed control maybe i should try spray painting it to matching color?
  23. The RELITE fan control has been fixed but it's bulky and ugly and sticking out like a sore thumb. The ID told me that its not advisable to change to the LEGRAND fan switch if I want to be able to control the fan speed cos based on their experience, the fan might be noisy. So unless I can live with the single speed control then they can change to the matching dark silver switch ... Anyone using RELITE fan has similar problem?
