Would the stuff from tb arrive in time?
-
Maybe I will get a shock when I see the final bill... :) .. My ID has the benefit of time for my project bcos I'm not in a hurry to move in. For clients that have tight deadlines, I don't think they can expect the same amount of DIY. I'm already thinking of doing carpentry for my study room.. originally I wanted to bring my old furniture over but now they seem quite out of place. But this will be for round 2.. When I recover from round 1

Oh they are made of steel! but at least they are not silver colour...

Yes, he is! My renovation has been smooth sailing and enjoyable...

ID also helped me put up the ledge in the kitchen. This is for me to put pictures, condiments or anything small for decorative purpose. Basically he's created a big blank canvas for me to decorate whatever way I want. I can turn my kitchen into something modern by placing trendy knick knacks on the ledge, or I could extend the rustic industrial look in the living room and dining room into the kitchen by having chalkboard, maison jars, rusty pots, and utensils hung on the wall etc. Looks like I'm going to have lots of fun decorating the kitchen! ID uses this app on his iPhone to check that the ledge is straight. Very interesting app! bathroom accessories in MBR are also up and I'm glad I have managed to avoid the use of stainless Steel and glass accessories, except for my toilet paper holder, which I didn't have time to go hunt for alternatives.

I haven't bought the drawers bcos I couldn't decide what to buy...as usual. But the hack shall be round 2 of Reno. Now I'm totally spent trying to do some basic furnishing for living, dining and kitchen before my frens visit next wednesday.

Didnt you notice i bought a similar vintage paper? heh heh... plan to do the same to a chest of drawers

I must be Singapore's slowest shopper when it comes to bathroom accessories. For some strange reasons, I can't stand the stainless steel bathroom accessories in the shops. For many months, I have been looking for a unique towel rack or toilet paper holder but sadly, I think the designs in Singapore are pretty standard. And now time is running out bcos ID is fixing the bathroom accessories next week. So far, I have only found a couple of white racks for my MBR toilet (at least they look different from the usual stainless steel designs). Unlike the living/dining/kitchen, my MBR will be mainly white and cream combo bcos I like my room to have a very soft, cosy feel. The track lights are white and my wardrobe laminate is cream with fabric texture. My 'great wall of china' Hopefully i will have better luck early next week.

yes, i find it glaring too....but its nice....Anyway, the lightings shop is checking for me to see if they have a spare lamp shade. i would still like to have the lamp shades as a standby,, in case the tungsten is really not user frendly
-
Not really.... Will be changing to tungsten bulbs and removing the remaining glass shade. We already tried it and frankly, the overall look is nicer...

Macuser77 - You saw the grand entrance to Sarah's bedroom? *drool*! Sarah - Is it possible to paste a piece of black plywood at the back of the tv console to block the cables?

If you remember, I talked about my dining lights last week - the rustic ones which we took a while to find. And guess what? I broke one of the glass lamp shades today. My heart just shattered to pieces, together with the lamp shade.. :( Now I'm considering whether to buy a replacement or to do a rescue job with what's left of the light (The DIY list just gets longer and longer). On a happier note, I'm really like how my ID has done the wiring of my kitchen. As I do not have upper kitchen cabinets, it would be ugly if my power points are mounted on my white walls. So my ID decided to hide the wiring inside my lower cabinets! This is how my kitchen wall looks - not a single wire in sight.... They have all been hidden in the upper drawer of my cabinet. This is what you see when you pull down the drawer cover then you slide the cover into the drawer so that there is nothing obstructing the way. This secret drawer is built in between the sink and the hob so that I can use my small electrical appliances during cooking and easily put them into the sink for washing. Kudos to my ID for being so attentive to details! Five other power points are hidden elsewhere but as usual, I forgot to take pictures. so shall post about them some other time.

One of my secret purchases (ie. Purchases behind ID's back) was a scroll of paper with vintage prints that I absolutely must have even though I wasn't sure if I would use it at the time of purchase. But when I finally 'declared' my purchase to my ID, his reaction was "Can use. Must Use!". So here's my secret purchase that will find a spot in my home... other pieces of loot it's strange how the decor of my place has evolved so much over the last few months. I started off wanting something that is Scandinavian - lots of white and light colour wood. Then the choice of my wood tiles and influences by my ID changed that into scandinavian with industrial elements and in the past few weeks, it's taken on a bit of French flavor bcos I love furnishings and decorations that are french looking. And just a few days ago, the lights were installed and my first impression was 'erm... How come it has a boutique feel?". I didn't tell my ID this but when he saw the lights at night, he had exactly the same feeling! It will be interesting to see what the overall decor looks like when I finally decorate the place.

Nope! .. That's my next challenge.... But let me recover from my tree hunt first. :)

ID and I went down to the wood supplier cum furniture maker to check out the piece of wood which they found for me. The workshop is very small but is filled with all kinds of raw wood and furniture waiting to be refurbished. It's a very tall piece of wood that almost reaches the ceiling of the workshop. it's the one at the back that is second from the right (the one with the light shade on the side and dark shade in the middle). It was salvaged from a bar counter at a hotel and has retained most of the rawness of the wood. The part that is of a lighter shade is actually the tree bark. The wood is really thick if seen from the side. It will have to be cut down to size and stained to my desired colour. here's the owner of the shop talking to my ID about the wood... it's what I called 'men's talk'.. Or rather...'wood talk' here's the uncle jotting down the specifications of my table. I was so fascinated with the shop that I forgot to take pix of it. the workshop was filled with vintage furniture sent by big-name shops for refurbishment. The uncle and his wife were very passionate about their wood and their job. The wife told me they charge about $150 to clean and varnish a bedside table which will be sold at a high profit margin by the shops. So this elderly and affable couple are the hands behind some of those nice vintage furniture I saw in the shops! Anyway, after deciding on my wood, I visited another industrial estate to buy my cast iron table legs and arrange for them to deliver to the workshop. It was truly a tiring but educational experience and now I'm looking forward to a new dining table that is unique to me! :)

U know what I did? I just keep vacuuming. Every time something is installed , I will go to the flat after work and do a quick vacuuming ( it takes me like 15 min to vacuum the whole house ) I don't let the dust and dirty accumulate. So my place is actually quite clean. The workers will remove their shoes at the door. Hahaha!

many people start small and slowly add on more stuff over time. I didn't do carpentry for two of my bedrooms in order to keep cost lower. But I have a lot of ideas which I will explore when the hole in the pocket is smaller...that's how renovation should be - slow and enjoyable over time..

Most likely getting these vintage legs for the dining table. Really hope the piece of wood has beautiful grains and is suitable to be made into my dream table! And the best thing is, the quote given by the wood supplier cum furniture maker is cheaper than those solid wood tables sold in big-name shops. anyway, dropped by my place today and saw that ID had covered my kitchen cabinet with plastic sheet which was taped onto the wall so that it doesn't fall off. I had casually mentioned to him yesterday that I hoped the electrician will cover my cabinets and sofa with plastic sheet before they installed the lights and today my ID personally did it. This is what I Iike about my ID - he is attentive to details and promptly follows up on what I say. of course there are times when he is forgetful because he is so busy but such occasions have been very few. So I'm sure he remembers that I asked for a discount in the final bill and will promptly give it to me! Hahaha

The wood supplier just called me. He found smth that is of the length and thickness that I want. Going down on Friday to see the wood! Keeping my fingers crossed!
