  1. that's a smart idea... then i just need to find and buy a chinese antique painting collection book, scan it in highest possible quality, then send to kodak printing service to print it in A3...
  2. actually even photo is fine bcos the purpose is for decoration not collection.
  3. cant afford original ones so cheap replica is fine. something like this: http://img517.imageshack.us/my.php?image=579wdfjefsajdj7.jpg http://img517.imageshack.us/my.php?image=c...aintingsxq7.jpg perfer smaller ones like 30cmx30cm rectangle. thanks.
  4. i just paint my house (140 sqm) using ici dulux. i signed up the dulux painting package via barang barang. you can check www.dulux.com.sg (click event&promotion) for details. the painting was assigned to a company called ACS Painting or something. i believe dulux will only choose reliable painters in order to protect their brand and reputation. the painting job turned out to be quite good. they estimated 2 days to finish but in reality it took almost 5 days, reasons because my house is large and there are many corners and built-in cabinet to cover. in the last 1-2 days the painter almost lost their patience bcos they kept working hard and painting hard but it just didnt seem to finish. during painting, they covered the ground, window frame and my cabinet very carefully to avoid the splashing (but seems to forget the window glass though). their paint skills i have no complain. overall i give it rating of 8/10 considering the complexity of my house. i can say i am satisfied. 5 years ago, i painted my previous flat using the painters from my general contractor. it turned out to be a disaster. i explicitly told the painter to use ici dulux but they changed to cheap paint without informing me. the painting skills were not so good (more of careless). they didnt cover my ground and as a result the paint splashed on my newly polished marble floor and window everywhere and there was no way to clean it. that's why this time i went to ici dulux directly. i believe i make the right decision this time.
  5. i read from somewhere suggested that for single piece dining light, the distance between ground and hanging light shall be 1.8 meter. i believe the reasons are 1) the hanging light shall be as low as possible. 2) when normal ppl (1.7 meter - 1.8 meter tall normally) stand up, he should still have an overview of the table and what are on it. if light is lower than 1.8 meter, potentially the light cover could block the sight which causes inconvenient. that's how the 1.8 meter is coming from i believe.
  6. the unit number on my main door is composed by individual number plates, say #08-08 would be 6 individual number plates. i just painted my main door so i removed the old ones but then i found old ones are very rusty. homefix got sale but the font face is different and not very nice comparing to my old ones. also tried a few door shops but very few variations. anyone knows which shop got? thanks in advance.
  7. when i test it, there is some water leaking from door hinges and bottom side of rubber seal. ask contractor but he say this is normal. my question is, is this really normal? my shower screen is the glass frameless type. anyone using this type? got water leaking? thanks.
  8. the wall holder (the two small wall mounted hooks) of my roman curtain was broken when i tried to remove the curtain for cleaning. anyone knows which shop selling the parts? tried couple of shops in IMM but the salesman was very happy when they knew i only came to buy small parts. but i am sure there must be shops selling it. anyone knows? thanks.
  9. just an update. i have booked my dining table, coffee table and flower stand from oriental handcrafts. their price is not the lowest but quality is the best for my bare eyes. may get more stuff from them later. just slowly build my collections.
  10. oh yea i paid 199 for the 4x4 one. hehe...sorry for remember wrongly. actually i was trying to get two 2x4 but black color was run out at that moment. very few furniture shop got bookshelf, only cheap ones from ikea and v.hive. of course there is highend one costs a few k but guess those bookshelves are not for books. saw some good bookshelves at hotel, restaurant, and library, made of solid wood but not aggressive/fancy design so cost should be moderate. just nice for me but obviously they are custom made by furniture vendor. nowadays furniture shops only got sofa, bed, mattress...very boring but guess ppl dont have book at home anyway thus no need for bookshelf. no market...hehz.
  11. get from ikea lah. i remember for 2x4 (grid), it was $199. for 4x4 it was $439 or something. so better get two 2x4 then stack together become 4x4. i have the same 4x4 one in black. got from ikea. not sturdy. but cheap. quite useful. i never see other sturdy/wooden version of same design from other brands.
  12. Any upcoming furniture/ID exhibitions? feel too tiring visiting furniture shops one by one. hope there is one place can visit all. thanks.
  13. need to build a new boxed (squared) type of show screen for my common bathroom. current one got problem on roller and rail. any contactor recommended? or best if there is showroom somewhere that i can view all the variations. have been to Hoe Kee@IMM but they only got ready built one with base which i dun need. thanks a lot.
  14. haha luckly i stay at 2nd floor. downstairs no neighbourhood. haha...can play basketball somemore. i have some personal view of the rosewood furniture shops i visited. please note they are very subjective. lots of expertise are needed in this area and i am just a newbie so dont take it as granted. the Singapore Handicraft Group: huge collections. flexible way of doing business. can sell seperately or customized made without any problems. the design is very good. price is high but they give freebie item if buy more. however personally i feel the raw wooden materials are not selected based on top standard. some look perfect but others i can find uneven table top and wood color mismatch. so personally i will not do pre-order if no stock for particular item. Samtat Shanghai Handicraft: limited collections and design. not very flexible which means normally you can only take one set but not single coffee table. materials choosen are top quality. somewhat i feel the painting is a little bit dull maybe because of the lighting conditions. and price is the lowest for similar looking item. Oriental Handicrafts: limited collections and design. pretty flexible if you wanna buy single item from one set. customized made also no problem. materials are top quality. workmanship and painting are top quality. price is in between of above two.
  15. glad to know that you are looking for the same thing as i do. maybe i compile a list of shops that selling chinese solid wood furnitures for future ppl reference. below are the shops i have been so far: Yue Hwa, Chinatown, 5th Level, Shanghai Ming Qing furniture exhibition Samtat Shanghai - 605 MacPherson Rd #01-13 Citimac Ind Complex 72 Eunos Avenue 7, #02-00, Singapore Handicrafts Building, S(409570) Accents on Accents, city retail outlet of above - the Plaza, Furniture Mall, Beach Road Oriental Handicraft S PL, Henderson Industrial Park #01-05/06 Oriental Handicrafts, city retail outlet of above, Marina Square #03-306/306A Tel 6339-8738 hi reload72, personally i will be happy if the furniture is really made of "M" wood. bcos that garantees that the wood is real. the real good quality rosewood used to be imported from Hainan (hundreds years ago) but nowadays not available at there anymore. only can find from old furnitures. lots of rosewood now is coming from myanmar or indonasia but considered as inferior quality.
  16. thanks a lot. will check it out. actually me prefer cherrywood but will definitely go there to take a look.
