  1. One of my colleague told me that once Open Net has installed the Termination Box, I need not lay extra cable in the unit to wired up the 2-storey. Is this true? Is there a need to check if the cable that Open Net use is it Cat5 or Cat6? As my husband is saying we should lay Cat6 cable for future upgrade. Thanks again.
  2. Hi Mae, Would you mind sharing with me how many metres of cables did you purchase? And the price and the name of the shop that you purchase this item? Renovation of my EM has just started but electrical work will only come into picture after the CNY. I am thinking of purchasing a box of FO cable and let my electrician to install which I feel the cost will come down as the current quotation he gave me is $130 per point. Lastly, did you install WiFi booster? Did you have one in each room? Thank you so much.
  3. Yes, thanks for pointed out the error :-) So cat6 point is widely known as data-point? How much roughly will it cost? I noticed that my contractor didn't quote sockets for 15amp. What if in future I were to purchase home appliances that is 15amp, can the item be plugged into the 13amp socket? I am really a noob when comes to Electrical work; lack of knowledge
  4. My contractor has given me this quote for cost of Electrical work. Below is the breakdown of the cost:- 1) Light point @40 x30 = $1,200/- 2) to supply labout to fix per light @$8 x30 = $240/- 3) SCV point @$100 x4 = $400 4) Telephone point @$55 x 2 = $110 5) Heater point @$100 x2 = $200 6) 2 x13amp double sockets @$55 x 15 = $825/- 7) 1 x13amp singlet socket @$45 x4 = $180/- 8) air-con point @$110 x1 = $110 9) 18 to 22 way DB board (all base on estimated points) =$350 Total cost = $3,6150 Can I check with EM owners who have done a complete electrical work, mind sharing if the quote given by my contractor above is reasonable? One thing I am uncertain is whether the above quotation is inclusive of Cat6 point installation as it seems it is absence from this list . Of course, I suppose I need data-point installation which he did not included I am contemplating should I get a separate Electrician to do this job or should I negotiate the cost with my contractor's electrician. Thank you all! `
  5. We purchased all these stuff from Estilo De Vida Pte Ltd in 515 Sims Avenue. The items are yet to be installed as the reno in my flat will be stalled until after CNY. I reckon they will only be up some time in Feb. Good luck to you!
  6. Hi Freakerz, thanks for being so helpful. I have one more question. As I am living in an EM,, would it be more advisable to install the termination box on 1st or 2nd floor? The Study room on 1st floor is my spouse's work-office.

Btw, to add the point; I reckon this is the data-point? I believe my contractor quoted me $80. Do you think this is a reasonable price?

  7. My flat is currently in the midst of renovation and the estimated handover date is mid-March. I have been reading T-Blogs and notice that there is not many posts that show bathrooms tiles/designs. Just wonder how did you do up yours? Did you design the layout yourself or it was suggested by your contractor/ID? Do you like it? To save some money, we have selected same tiles for 2 common bathrooms (not fanciful) and one part of the master bedroom has featured tiles. Only one wall is tiled up and can't visualise how it would look when it's completed. The ID is still amending the drawing and yet to show us any updates. Please feel free to show me your nice bathroom(s)!
  8. Freakerz, thanks heap! This piece of info has indeed answered almost to all the doubts I have. Now I have a better knowledge on Open Net FO installation. Have a pleasant day all
  9. Thanks, Ken. We are subscribed to Singtel for MIO and mobile bundles. As we each has a mobile phone, we do not see the necessity to have home phone (e.g. digital voice). We are just looking for fast speed connection for our wireless devices and laptops (e.g. 4 altogether). My husband is frustrated as he realises that the speed of Singtel broadband is getting worst; at times we even get disconnected a few times in the evening when he was trying to reply to some urgent work emails.
  10. Thanks, eaglef18 :-) I will try to read up on Homeplugs.
  11. dragonite, thank you so much in taking the time to explain more. I will give my contractor who will liaise with the electrician to take measurement to know exactly how many metres I need to wired up the whole EM. I believe my husband prefer wireless connection though :-)
  12. Thanks, Batman. Of course I don't know or else I wouldn't have posted this thread and had pointed out clearly that I would like to know more before contacting Open Net or be misled by the telco to pay more than I need. Hope this clarifies?
  13. Congrats! We also bought our current flat via SOBF system and collected the keys in September last year. We had been played out by our 1st contractor, resulting in delay in the entire reno process. We only engaged our current contractor in late Nov and he had already met up with us a few rounds to discuss on layout and talked about reno cost. We know him through my brother so somehow feels that he is rather reliable. As it is close to CNY, most of the workers will be going back to their home country so we were informed that the earliest he can handover the flat back to us is in Mid-March, There is nothing we can do but suck it up. Looking forward to see more of your reno pics. Best of luck :-)
  14. Renovation work in my flat has started. A kind neighbour brought it up to us that we need get in touch with OpenNet to get the fibre optics cable laid as we are required to make an appointment for them to come down to our flat to pull the cable line, it is best is get a date whereby the electrician is doing the wiring job so these cable lines can be concealed. 1) There are various types of cable, namely Cat5, Cat5e and Cat6. I was told that Cat5e works just good but if we can afford it ($$ wise) get Cat6. For those of you who are using Cat6, is there a great difference between Cat5e and Cat 6? How much is the cost difference? 2) I intend to run the cable from our TV console in the living room. We like to idea of having all the 3 rooms in the 2nd floor to have FO. How many metres is required (approximate)if I want to ensure that all the rooms have connection? And what will the cost of it (approximate)? 3) I heard that we should not get the router from service provider (e.g. Singtel) as the one provided is not good. The best option is buy our own router. In this case, which brand and model is reliable for stable connection and for good upload speed? I heard the prices offered by the telco (e.g. Singtel, M1 etc) varies, largely depends on the cable we are given (or is there a choice)? and also the types of routers being offered. So I really would like to know more and what I am paying for. Thanks for the time in reading my post and responding to my inquiries. P/S: I can't really decide until some of these questions are answered.
  15. Does anyone has input on Elkay sinks?
  16. Okay, no one seems to have any input on this brand. I will discuss it with my spouse before deciding. Ta!
  17. Has anyone of you purchase this item from this company? Would you mind sharing your experience? We just purchase a sink from them but it has yet to be delivered, therefore, if we want to change to some other brand, we are allowed to do so now. Thank you all
  18. Hi all, I am undecisive if I should change all the water closets in 3 of my bathrooms. Although currently, they have the HDB-type, I do prefer one-piece, soft closing type. However, after been to a few shops, I noticed that most of them; the price ranges from $550 upwards! Can someone recommend a reliable brand which will meet my requirements? If the pricing isn't too expensive, I might consider buying 3 or else will have to forgo the idea. Thanks.
  19. Our contractor just bought us to Balestier last sunday to select tiles for our flat. Which is the company which you trust and will recommend for buying tiles?
  20. My husband would like to get a convection oven which I have no idea since I rarely cook. Can someone recommend a reliable name/brand? And what would you suggest between the various kinds of ovens in the market now? Thank you.
  21. Thank you. Appreciate your respond, Norman!
  22. Went to Balestier yesterday but all the shops we visited do not carry this brand. Any idea where in Singapore and Malaysia (come to worst case if we want to save some $$, we will drive in) that we can get good lobang? Thank you.
  23. We would also like to buy a few KDK fans. Went to Balestier yesterday but all the shops we visited do not carry this brand. Any idea where in Singapore and Malaysia (come to worst case if we want to save some $$, we will drive in) that we can get good lobang? Thank you.
