Spikedoll, thank you for your compliment. My girl is very chatty, active and it is physically challenging for us :-) I went back on Monday for Open Net installation of the termination point but there aren't much things done yet. The stairs (only 1 flight) is not done up so I didn't take any pics. Will likely see more progress next week when the staircase is reconstructed and floor tiles should be almost ready. Then, I will try to take more pics. I will try to upload an image of the set of sofa set we have had ordered shortly. Thanks for the patience!

Me too! We have yet to complete our long shopping list. I can only do this over the weekends as I work full-time. We went down to the flat for Open Net termination point installation but my contractor rang up my spouse to inform him that he is sick. So we have to arrange another day to tie-up all the loose ends. I start to wonder if he can complete the reno by mid-March! I am still keeping my fingers crossed!

Thank you, myrick88 At first we were given a set of hardcopy print out of the 3D drawings but after we have made some changes and asked the ID to update the drawings and email to us, she hasn't been doing so. We didn't press on since we already know what we want. Will check with my contractor again when we meet him this afternoon; perhaps he can help to follow-up for us on this matter.

Ken, as usual, you are always helpful and thoughtful :-) I have brought this up over the w/end and discussed with my spouse. He said according to his memory, tempered glass is also known as toughened glass which is widely use in homes and it is actually serve its purpose well. Many cars manufaturers are using temepered laminated technology for their windows, that's to say it is more common for industrial use which explain why this cost a lot more. We are both pretty okay with temepred glass but nonetheless will reconfirm with my contractor when we see him this afternoon for Open Net installation.

Thanks for the tip, HappyAng. I am not sure if the contractor is going to use laminated tempered glass or just tempered glass. How much is the price difference between the two? We do have a budget that's why we are watchful on what we are spending on as the contractor has reverted with a revised quote that's higher than what we intended for this reno; hence, we are forgoing some carpentry jobs which can be done later.

Mine is not really a big transformation as the layout is pretty much the same and there are not too much hacking with exception to remove the first flight of the stairs. Thanks for the pointers and will try to read up on the 'shou kuo' thing. In the whole renovation, I have to admit that I tend to pay more attention on safety aspects (e.g. round corners against sharp corners and also on soft-closing cabinets/drawers etc). Maybe maternal instinct has got the better of me

View from my main door along the corridor - he stadium and swimming can be seen. View from the service yard - facing the multi-storey carpark. Not a desirable view but surely better than facing another HDB block.

We removed the first flight (keep the 2nd flight as it is too costly to ripoff the entire stairs) turn it around which is facing the Study room. The newly relocated storeroom, its door will be facing the entrance of the kitchen. Yes, it is a major one and is one of the reasons for the delay!

Ken, we have made an appointment with Open Net to do the installation. We wrote in to appeal since we purchased the unit only after the free installation period. Open Net refused to waive it off and we have to pay the $220 or whatever the cost is. Thanks for asking! :-)

When I compose the reply, 'cheap' didn't cross my mind. Clothes lines as it is easily available and we use them in my husband's house. But what you said is very true! Haha!

Yeah, still trying to find other options :-) I try to google for bamboo holder stands but can't seem to see any supplier that carry this product? Might go for clothes lines which is the simplest and convenient option.

Thanks for the suggestions, Ken! I think the option to hang clothes over the rooftop from my MBR, he might think this is out of the norm since his culture, they do not sun/dry clothes in the bedroom. I like the idea of having ring hooks and and bamboo holder stands. But where can I get the bamboo holder stands?
  21. kooky

    K's Home

No, EM does not have bamboo holes. We have bamboo hooks in the service yard but I am not sure if they will obstruct the roofing and the contractor might remove them.

The roof top doesn't change the way we dry our clothes....LOL! Either we use bamboo or use rack. With the roof, it only prevent direct sunlight especially on a hot day or if you have some high-rise litterbug (inconsiderate neighbour above), I suppose a roof will be good. HDB doesn't permit us to use the space above. The void area shown on the floor plan will still remain the same - untouched. In my era, we are so used to drying our clothes out using bamboo and I love the smell of the Sun!! But my spouse hates it; he said this method is so old-fashioned and commented that in Condos and countries in Europe, they dont use bamboo sticks. So each time after washing, I have to lay my tumble-dry clothes on the drying rack. That's why I am buying a dryer. Not much I can do really since my spouse is so strongly against bamboo sticks! What do you intend to do, myrick88?

If the balcony is extended from the lviing area/hall, we will definitely keep it. However, it is extended from the kitchen, then we decided to use that area solely for laundry (e.g. washer and dryer) and hence, I called it a service yard rather than balcony. As we have sectioned out the kitchen to make an additional, we will need to extend the service yard to accommodate the sink for the already downsized kitchen. I miss the veranda that we have in my spouse's house where we can do BBQ and a nice place to chill out. Just have to make do with whatever is available. Such is life.

    K's Home

Yes, we extended our kitchen to utilize the service yard. However, we are not allowed to level-up the service yard to the same height as the kitchen :-( The roofing cost quoted is $4500.

Before we ballot for this unit, I heard there are some EMs/EAs in Queenstown but never really know the actual location until we got it
