To Have Or Not To Have?
dreamgirl replied to cheesecake's topic in Pregnancy,Parenthood and Education Matters
I am in similar situation here. Career or baby ? Is it possible to have both ? I have a friend whose husband is still studying but they went ahead to have baby anyway. Of course need to struggle to scrimp $$ here and there, but again, babies are gift of life from God. -
What's ideal age to start having 1st baby ? Considering all the needs of modern life (career, home, financials, maturity, etc, etc)

I got this scary encounter when I was staying in a motel in Australia. I went to Australia with a some school friends. And we stayed in this small motel, but somehow the booking was messed up. So I end up staying alone in a room with 3 beds in it. (Although I booked single bed, they gave me 'family' room). When I first enter the room, I got a strange feeling someone is watching me. Also it's pretty uncomfortable to sleep alone although there are 3 empty beds. But as it was quite late at nite after a long drive, and I was tired, so dun care just sleep in. I choose the middle bed which is a queen sized bed. In the dawn, I heard someone is knocking on the door when I was still asleep. I thought it was one of my friend who wanted to wake me up. Since I was tired, I was ignoring it cos want to sleep a little longer. The knocking continued, until it finally stopped. Then I feel 'someone' is walking inside the room, and looking over me. And I heard 'he' said 'if you don't want to wake up then it's ok'. And 'he' jump over me and lay beside me in the bed! At that moment I wake up and open my eyes and feel goosebump all over. There's no one in the room, but I feel really2 scared and start saying any prayer I could think of. When I write this, I still feel the goosebump. When I had my energy back, I dashed outside and almost bang down my friend's room door. They were all still asleep and no one actually come to my room and knock on the door. Luckily we left the town that day, so I don't need to stay in that room again. I even asked my friend to accompany me back to the room to help me pack my things as I was too scared to go in alone. This is the scariest experience I've ever had. I stayed in many rooms alone before and after this, and luckily never experience anything like this again. (finger crossed)

I also think the best way to solve this problem is to 'outsource' the household chores. Luckily we are in Singapore where the cost of maid is not so exorbitant. (Imagine, in US/UK you'd have to be a movie star, royalties or billionaire to afford a maid) Anyone got contact for good weekly maid service/company ? Pls PM me, thanks! :-)

Hi Forummers, Thinking of having a bathtub in our master bathroom. Already imagine having a long soak after a hard day. !! What're the cons of having one ? (Beside high water bill & cleaning, of course..) Some says after few years usually water leak problem to unit below as condensation/vapour collected. Is this really true ? Anyone has a bathtub care to share ?

Modern Classic
dreamgirl replied to deremi's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
Wow, this is what I called Modern Classic. Do you know ID contact and rough cost to do up this place ? -
Better source for the aircon yourself, or check to few store first. Got a story from aircon salesman, the ID call his store to tell that his client is coming, but he wanted $200 'referral' fee. Of course the 'referral' fee will end-up added into the price and paid by you. !!

Care to share 'where to look' ? !!

Thanks for the info! For booshelves, I've been using IKEA Billy range, so far 4 years and they are still going strong. Even though I overloaded them with thick books, textbook, hardcovers, etc. Bought Carrefour ones, and rite, they sag after 1 year. For kitchen, why IKEA dare to give 25 years guarantee if the material so lousy ? Anyone has ever claim the guarantee when things disintegrate ? The custom-made ones only give 1 year. Hmm, anywhere I can go for solid wood carpentry ? Why they dun want to sell to walk-in-customers ? Got union with contractor ?

Hi Forummers, I'm interested in using IKEA carpentry for my new home. Particularly interested on the IKEA kitchen with solid surface top option (they have this option now). Thinking of getting 3-meter IKEA wardrobe with sliding doors. Also interested in IKEA bookshelves. I like their design and their price (which can be half of custom-made ones). Does anyone has experience using IKEA carpentry ? Some suggested that IKEA furniture does not last, but after viewing IKEA store and normal custom-made ID shop, I find that the custom-made workmanship and material does not differ much. (Or maybe my eyes are not well-trained enough to spot the quality differences). Can someone highlight the differences between IKEA and normal custom-made carpentry ? Thanks!

Queenstowners, Redhillers, Tiong Bahruans ...
dreamgirl replied to Ah Keong's topic in Neighbourhood Networking
Hi, I am looking for 3+1 unit for rent at these neighbourhoods while waiting for our flat to be ready. (Maybe I shld've post msg at Rent thread, but maybe it's more effective here since I'm looking at this area...) If you are interested (or know someone) who is looking to rent 3+1 unit, juz PM me. We are S'porean and Indonesian Chinese with S'pore PR. 1 couple + 2 ladies. All working professional. Can start end of May '07. Thanks! -
I also prefer the ready-made one (Tanglin & Strathmore). The downside for Tanglin & Strathmore is that we may not be able to get good unit because of 2nd bach SERS selection. My fiancee is quite interested with Dawson Green as he likes greenery and sure can get good unit as 1st batch SERS selection. And the waiting time can be used to accumulate $$ for reno, wedding dinner, etc etc... After paying the cash-over-value, we're pretty broke So, maybe we just wait and see during selection day itself, what is available. (Sure another head-ache day). For the selection details, the queue number will be allocated by computer (balloting), so I guess yours and mine will be the same time. But since I'm choosing 5 RM and you're choosing 4 RM, we won't be competing as the queue will be different.

Hi Dandelion, Yes, we've finished the resale transaction. I suppose the transfer of ownership period is ending soon ? We got the unit thru newspaper and agent, I think we're pretty lucky that the price is reasonable. Our unit is at low level and in original condition (although still liveable). But we think that's okay since we are going to move to new unit anyway. Yes, I think you're right that the new replacement flat via SERS is cheaper than WIS/Ballotting, also we have priority of selecting the units first. Which one do you prefer ? - Forfar Height - Tanglin Halt - Dawson By the way, is confirmed that the Dawson site will be the 'green' HDB development that was mentioned in newspaper last week (aka. Dawson Green) ?

Hi Dandelion, Pleasantly surprised to bump into someone taking the same path =) I am buying 3-rm unit at Commonwealth Avenue, the replacement flat is the same 3 areas (Tanglin, Forfar, Dawson). But I'm selecting 5 RM as replacement flat. Hopefully we can be neighbours! HDB only releases price for Dawson site (I think you should have this in the letter, rite?) The price of Tanglin Halt and Forfar sites are not released. We have personally come down to HDB to ask the officer, but the officer said she can't release the price yet as its yet to be computed! A bit dissapointed to hear this, as we want to know the price early so we can be prepared financially. I'm just crossing my finger that the price still within our budget. By the way, may I know how much cash over-value that you have to pay for the unit ? Is the unit has 30K discount ? For ours, we pay 35K cash over-value, as the unit has 30K discount (the owner asked for extra 5K). But luckily the HDB compensation is higher than unit valuation, so at the end we still earn a bit.

Hi Zirhk3355, Thanks for replying! That info is v useful for me. I hope the price don't increase so much when it's time for us to select. The balloting exercise price in the same area is more ex, top price is $417K. But I heard en-block price is cheaper than balloting price. Hopefully can get a good unit and be your neighbour. U're such a helpful forummer! When is your house warming time ? Can invite me too
