Same thing again... thinking of all sorts of ways to cut reno costs. I dun mind screeding onto existing kitchen and toilet wall tiles but what are the pros and cons of such method vs 1) Hack old wall tiles then lay new wall tiles and 2) Hack old wall tiles then screed onto bare wall. Heard that cracks are common for screed walls but my major concern will be how "waterproof" will the toilet walls be if I am to do screeding. Pls enlighten me. Thanks in advance.

Is there different thickness for the grilles? -
Hi all, Due to budget constraint, I am getting contractors to renovate my house instead of getting an ID to sort out all the details for me. I intend to install light box with downlights for all my rooms including living and dining rooms as there will be a ceiling fan for each rooms and I really dun want to get those fans with integrated lights. Questions: My average room size is 3300mm * 3800mm HDB height. I intend to install 6 downlights (2 each along the longer wall and 1 each along the shorter wall). 1. What is the recommended type of lighting that I should get in this case? Is the Philips FBG302 downlight bright enough to illuminate the room? 2. How do I calculate the length for the light box required to go round the room? Is it length (3800) * breath (3300) * 2 = 14200mm (47ft)?

I have been offered $4800 for changing my entire house (HHDB 5i Resale) windows to: 1. White Powder Coated casement windows with tinted green glass 2. White Powder Coated sliding grilles 3. Both toilets windows to white powder coat. 4. Dismantling and disposal of existing windows. Total estimated windows area at 220 sqf. Height of windows standard at 1.2M only. Is this price competitive?

Hi KK85, Good evening. Tried to send a PM to you but your inbox is full. I really like the concept of your shoerack but my carpenter is having some apprehension as to how the fine grooves running from top to bottom were created. Is it possible for me to visit your house with my carpenter or would you be kind enough to take a few closeup photos of the grooves and email them to me at normanho23@hotmail.com? Thanks in advance. wow... how much does it cost to just hack both toilets wall tiles and make good the walls without laying new tiles?
-
Check out ikea lighting section. They have something that you need. Runs on 2pcs AAA battery.
-
Resale flat. To minimize cost, I am considering either overlays or doing the cement wall. Not sure which will be cheaper but I am told that in order to overlay, I have to make sure that there is no cracks on the existing wall tiles...
-
Pls help... I am intending to hack down all the existing wall tiles for both my toilets and redo all the walls with cement finishing like the photo. Dimensions for the toilet is about 1600mm * 2400mm * 2400mm HDB height. Any idea how much is the estimated costs for such works to hack and resurface the walls?

Hi all, Will be having my 1st appt end next month and renovation is expected to take place late December. I know exactly what I need to do and what I want for the new house so basically need a contractor (preferably for Carpentry) to be my main contractor to coordinate with all the sub-cons or suppliers. Dun need an ID as it will be a waste of $$$. These are the main work for my new house. Wet works: 1. Hacking down the kitchen wall and replace the wall with tempered glass sliding door. 2. Sealing the common toilet door location and create a new door for the toilet on another wall. 3. Overlay floor and wall tiles for both toilets. 4. Shower screen for both toilets. Carpentry: 1. TV console and shoe rack for living room. 2. Built in wardrobe for master bedroom. 3. Kitchen cabinets top and bottom. 4. Vanity tops for both toilets. Light box for all rooms except kitchen and toilets. Painting for whole house. Final cleaning up for whole house. Install new laminates for all floors. (I will provide the laminates) Install new system 4 aircon. (I will provide the aircon) Remove and install new grilles and windows for whole house. (I will provide the windows and grilles). As mentioned, I know exactly the dimensions that I need and the designs that I am keen on so I dun need an ID or any 3D drawings to save on costs. Pls recommend me someone reliable. Thanks in advance!

Is there any special tool to clean a cove light box besides doing it manually with the help of a ladder?
-
Thanks Mike. There will not be much plumbing works except to change the location of the two toilet basins location. Not much wet works as well except overlays for both toilet wall and floor tiles. So the correct sequence should be??? 1. Hacking of any walls or tiles, removals or existing windows grilles and windows. 2. Electrical works, false ceilings, new tiles, plumbing. 3. Installation of aircon, new windows. 4. Painting of whole house. 5. Installation of laminates flooring for whole house. 6. Installation of carpentry works. 7. Final clean up.
