  1. The main challenges I had in overhauling the room were that, firstly, I was (again) on a very tight budget and second, the room is very big (about 300sq ft). So, inevitably, things took a lot longer than most renovations would... and here I still am, working on the room as and when. Thankfully, the worst (hacking all the parquet, and getting rid of all the wood stuff in the room) is over. Now, as I write this, I'm at the stage where I am doing the main painting of the walls and that's only about 50% of all the stuff done. OK here's a sneak preview of how the room used to look like... Please pardon the lack of 'before' pics, as I loathed the very sight of the room and did not take many pictures of it.
  2. For the avoidance of doubt, I am not actually an ID... lol. I've just been blessed with good taste, aesthetic sense and labourer's skills!
  3. After the success of my bathroom reno, I decided I should start another thread about Phase 2 of my reno to share ideas and experiences with other Renotalk kakis. This time, Phase 2 involves the overhaul of a 15yr old bedroom. The bedroom, that has not been lived in (except occasional visits on some weekends) for the last 6yrs, seemed to have been stuck in a time warp just like the bathroom previously was. It was a mishmash of nonsensical concepts that the room's original occupant neither liked nor wanted: - Parquet flooring - Purple/ psychadelic walls (omg) - Heavy solid wood European Da Vinci furniture - Peeling paint from roof leakage or something - Heavy solid wood wardrobe The decision to overhaul was conceived many years ago, but there had been simply no time nor resources before. Now that the opportunity has presented itself, the room is going to be turned into a chill out room for hanging out with friends over a movie or for working in. It will be designed with an underlying industrial concept, mixed with a bit of highbrow pop art concept (whatever that means LOL) The interior designer (me) is still in the process of making the furniture and buying whatever things that we are not making ourselves... so please bear with the slowness of the process. If you have any ideas or advice, please feel free to post them here! Kam sia..
  4. Hehee... ask your hubby for 'discount' la. Can be housewife when your kids are in the most formative years. Anyway man must provide for woman ma... If woman wants to work, it's a bonus. LOL just my own (perhaps outdated) opinion. Wah labour is $1.6k? I will just do it myself then! That's preposterous. Even though yours is cheaper than your neighbour... To pay $2k to do just brick wall is quite pek chek. Thanks for the link! Looks nice. I usually ask ppl who have already bought theirs, rather than try to search myself because at least I know someone else in SG has tried this particular seller. Also, I cannot read Mandarin much I am looking to buy a couple of things from TB at the moment (for immediate use as my reno is coming to an end in a week or so), but I'm pretty clueless. Not used to the arranging shipping and to the communicating with each seller etc. I'm more Ebay style. Fuss free. But... TB so cheappppppppp! How...?
  5. Hi hi again, may I know how much you bought the Relite fan...? And does it come with the light kit options at that shop? I have heard Relite is good. Currently using Amasco and it was a fiasco. Bought less than 3mths and don't even use every day but the light function kept on going kaput. So angry, everytime they change then after a few days have to call them again. I kept insisting it's a faulty unit and asked for a replacement set, but they kept changing the light. Finally they changed the driver and I'm not sure if that will solve the problem permanently, because I haven't gone to the room to use it often enough. I want cheap and good la.. but.. I know a bit hard to find a good compromise. Sigh!
  6. Hihi... wah..! Nice! I like your brick walls, and can't believe how cheap it is :dribble:You said just the bricks was $200+. How much was the labour charge by your contractor? And how did your contractor cut (for those corners or excess) the bricks? Can use normal house tools? Does the seller at the link you provided also have like an orangey or reddish colour instead of just white? Wah lau to co-ordinate all the TB purchases is not easy... may I know if you're a housewife?
  7. I found a place at Sungei Kadut that deals in granite and marble etc... But after speaking to them and giving them the exact measurements, I was told the price was probably going to be about $150-$200+ Too ex la...
  8. Hi five, Eastlovin! Heheee... fellow OCD-er Thanks for your well wishes. Glad to know I may have been of some entertainment help to other Renotalkers. How's your reno goin?? Err.. "I totally felt you" sounds really, really wrong. Ahahahaa...just kidding la. Cheers, have a good weekend!
  9. Hi Khng...! Sorry soooo late response. Still in the midst of Phase 2 reno. I was also trying to find my post where I complained abt the rude Hafary PRC delivery guy (because I also wrote in that post praising the other PRC guys who delivered my sink and vanity)... but it seems to have disappeared! Hmmmm. Renotalk mods, what's this sia... Hafary paid you to take it down is it?!? Anyway, I bought the vanity at Hoe Kee IMM. Wah very long time ago... The details are as follows: Name: Roz RT-024-B (Rect basin cabinet full black s/s) Measurements: 59x45cm Price: $380 (after GST) Oh btw... The one on display wasn't so nice, it was maybe silver or something. But when I went to pay, the lau ban niang asked me if I wanted that colour or if I wanted full black. Of course I was happy to choose full black. Sorry am a bit busy to take the pic of it close up (I don't live in that house)... but when I get the chance, I will do so for you. Hopefully. No promises tho And ya, thanks.. need perseverance to do these kind of things. And TIME... omg if I wasn't on a sabbatical, there's no way I would ever be able to do all this after work hours/weekends!
  10. Hi, how big is the cabinet...? If you post pics, maybe I can help.. Depends on my schedule and where you live also. If around north-west or Bukit Timah areas still can.

Depends.. have you ever done it before? Do you have the tools to hack? Do you habitually DIY things and furniture around your house? Do you know how to operate power tools like drills, angle grinders, sanding machine? If yes, then you can. And you will find it easy enough. If not, then really no choice but to go hire the experts la. I so good in all these DIY and construction work also had to spend $9k to hire people to do my bathroom...
  12. Glass company review Part 4 (Nan Huat) Next we come to the shower screen, which is 1 fixed and 1 sliding. Now, a few months after the reno, I actually feel that I could have done away with the sliding and saved some money... The sliding is redundant actually if you know how to 'shower properly' without making a mess. Oh, wait. That's exactly why I had the sliding part-- because those people who use this bathroom don't know how to shower without making a mess! Initially I had issues with the rubber strip (yes, I'm very ngiau and OCD. so??? lol) : But I guess, now after a few months the rubber has ceased to be a problem. The faint scratch-like marks on the shower screen itself, JY said it's "normal" so there was nothing I could do about it. But overall OK la I guess. Like I said, very value for money so I would recommend if you are on a tight budget. 8/10
  13. Glass company review Part 3 (Nan Huat) Definitely need to touch up after they install your glass door lo... After installing, and installing the film (both sandblasted and a black pattern you can't really see maybe) onto the door:
  14. Glass company review Part 2 (Nan Huat) For those who are OCD and perfectionist, I advise you don't watch them do their work... I almost had a heart attack seeing these:
  15. How much are you being quoted for the wood? $9? PVC blinds is how...? My only considerations were between wood and the aluminium ones. Wood looks nicer but can be eaten away by insects faster, even if indoor? I used to have aluminium at my other place, it looks sleeker. Too bad IKEA doesn't sell it anymore. A medium one was only $19. My place here has wooden (bamboo?) ones, IKEA also and has lasted more than 10yrs. Just a bit dusty cos ma fan to clean. It looks more zen though, in line with my concept at that time (10yrs ago).
  16. Have a look at my review of mine at my T-blog.. If you wanna try. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/69575-chronicles-of-a-simple-bathroom-without-gold-taps/ I'm halfway posting the pictures from the glass parts, so look out for it!
  17. Hi there, may I know how is the flooring condition now in 2015..? I would really like to achieve that same effect with my new cement screed floor, and really like how yours looks. I want the matte look as opposed to the glossy look. Was yours just an epoxy paint, coating or was it a thick resin? TIA
  18. Wah, just came across your T-Blog... the combinations of your bathroom so nice...
  19. Hi DeadEnd..! Thanks, you are right! I was also thinking about that but...errr... I am quite superstitious ah  So probably won't... LOL. Thanks tho!
  20. Oh, no problem. I have not been checking much of Renotalk either due to my schedule! Thanks, I did try to google before (engrave in stone) also but to no avail. And the prices on the website you suggested...erm. I have a very good rapport with Queensway shop that does very cheap those kinda same things. I'm also sure that there must be some place in Sg! But thanks for your suggestion... The Ebay one with shipping is around S$80. Still pretty steep hor?? Like, hello, it's just a piece of stone. Haizz.. ok, if I find later a local one, I will update you! Just in case you want to make also
  21. Hi George.. sorry! Was busy with my next phase of the renovations. Here you go: Hope it works out for you...!
