  1. it all depends on what you want done if everything in the package you also want, then it's a good deal but if like me, dun want false ceiling and tiles then itemised list is the way to go
  2. are you sure you gotta pay for hdb permit? so far those i've enquired says that hdb dun charge permit fees leh contractors and ID firms have a portal for them to register the renovation permit foc. companies that charge permit fees is to 'borrow' permit from someone else that's why got to pay...
  3. if you want to replace only the cover must ensure that it's the same loh i.e. clip-on or screw-on or what... bought those plastic cover ones at about $40 with 40w bulb
  4. but if i take myself got to pay myself leh get married can ask husband to pay (that's why i'm still without one coz nobody wants to pay for me !! my current home the carpark is underneath the block, 3rd and 4th floor carpark and upstairs residential unit but underground carpark, ummmm now urgent search for window contractors, but problem is many dun do alumesh so quite difficult to find good and inexpensive ones meeting up with one tomorrow so got to take half-day and rush down sigh... can't wait to move into my new place when everything is over !!
  5. actually okay lah, at least they were told when quoted coz sometimes for new flats haulage and disposal must be done by TC so the ID is just a middle-man some dun even tell you there's such a thing and when the time comes, you have no choice but pay informed = go in with eyes open mah
  6. i only know the private apartment above the sengkang mrt nia or the new ones coming up at buangkok mrt? bluberi, how's your wedding preparation coming along your gown in your avatar right? very nice leh, sometimes i want to get married just so to have an excuse to wear something like that horrible thought
  7. wow the carpentry is really it's way over priced and painting my EA 134sqm is only $1350 using medifresh 3-in-1 (not vinilex) actually if you already have design can just get a contractor not worth to get an ID firm
  8. oh yes forgot to mention that both my thomson and brandt are front-load technology in top load style guess that's why my clothes can take it just realised that LinDa is using tiles from the same supplier as me and i realised that contractors are really earning a lot a lot from tiles the retail price on the tile is $3.2psf, but after i told the salesperson i'm buying it myself i.e. not select then ask contractor come down and buy, she immediately drop the price to $3psf. further discussion and the price became $2.5psf. final price i got was $2.3psf for my 800 x 800 homo tiles another thing i learned from this renovation is that there is actually no such thing as homogenous tiles. the name is porcelain tiles. that's why can't find much when searching for homogenous tiles... but if type porcelain tiles, everything will come out from the production process, the various overseas suppliers etc when it comes to washers, i just need something with variable temp and rpm for different purposes. so technology like nano-dunnowat, silver-dunnowat is something i won't pay for
  9. heehee, i'm the kind that dun mind spending money for convenience (not too much lah) that's why been using thomson/brandt for all these while all my clothes are washed in the machine coz really lazy to separate them, or handwash some of them even my mango jacket that says 'dry-clean only' i also dump into the machine and wash the best part (or worst) is i will take all out and dump into the dryer lazy to even hang them out (except dresses coz hang liao not need to iron) so next time you see a tall tall girl with crumpled clothes that's me liao for my block, most EA units are taken but strangely it seems that they are not occupied. some you can see those old old flyers still around though the unit is no longer available according to HDB site... i find our yard size quite okay coz my current home is a small 3-rm without yard so having any extra space seems good my whole family is smittened with the HUGE living room
  10. how about those with two legs infront and two wheels behind? when you move it it'll be like moving a wheel-barrow. but with the legs infront, when you open the drawers it won't tip forward...
  11. no problem. think everyone of us have washing machine at home me using thomson now, used to have brandt love the mini size of thomson washers (40cm) so most prob will stick to this brand front load is good coz uses less water, and i find that thomson/brandt is quite gentle on my clothes (i wash everything in WM, including those handwash-only clothes ) btw, i'm not married my parents are my essential occupiers in order for me to apply for this unit bluberi, actually i think our yard is quite reasonable liao esp compared to those who has to 'make' a dry area in the already-small kitchen but i do wish the kitchen can be bigger LinDa, me is of another view (guess i'm a really weird person) these are things you dun buy often, not like clothes so i will always buy the best i can afford, like tiles and such if i buy something that is my second choice, everytime i see that item i will not be the happiest coz i'll always think of my first choice and wish i've gotten it instead of course not asking you to go and borrow money to buy lah but if i cannot have my first choice, i'd rather wait and save loh so will be using my old 29" CRT tv until i have enough to buy my 42" pioneer plasma no point getting a cheaper alternative but keep thinking 'how i wish' right? one more thing to add, made-in and assembled refers to quite different things made-in is a tag used when 70% (not sure of the %) of the components are made in a particular country assembled in means the country where the components are put together to form the final product so you may have a machine that the components are produced in one country and shipped to be assembled in another... the above refers to cars, but not sure if washing machines /fridges are assembled in the same country as the component production
  12. yes you have basicaly summed it up contractors basically just carry out what you want e.g. 10ft of bottom kitchen cabinet, install lights etc although most experienced contractors are able to give some ideas. dun expect drawings though ID on the other hand provides consultation on everything from what kind of lights for where, what kind of furniture fits your theme and how best to maximise limited space. personal view, for those who are getting a new place and plan to get everything new, ID would be a good choice esp if you have a specific theme e.g. resort or modern as a good ID will be able to advice accordingly. however, if like me you are shifting from a old place to a new one and will not be getting much furnitures, then a contractor should be good enough coz most prob the old furnitures are of different style anyway
  13. really no more ah? thank goodness got it when i did love the two entrance kitchen and the big living room finally a place where the whole family can sit together and watch tv (now we do it separately coz living room too small and cluttered ) kekeke, think all of us busted our budget many things that we didn't even dream of are necessary to make the flat into our dream home and sometimes when we go hunting we'll see things that we MUST have, like my rosewood furnitures went down to my flat again today but didn't take any photos coz nothing changed just wanted to look at the tiles again
  14. maybe you want to list down the items done with $60k then it'll be easier for us to help see if you are being over charged
  15. love your toilet roll holder mind sharing where you got it?
  16. think you can just ask for the bedframe the headboard is charged separately
  17. actually you can go to the clementi branch mah the open once a month thing is true, but the duration is for two to three weeks. then they close to consolidate before opening for another two to three weeks next month... hahaha some things can get lah, like the chair and table set, put in balcony quite nice will check that place out. where is it near ah? me watche spidey yesterday also a bit disapponting coz too much drama liao loh the fighting scene like last 10 min nia
  18. maybe it's the brand or model lah and also depends on where you buy the exact same fan was quoted $450 at illumination but $250 at a run-down jln besar shophouse...
  19. which part of china you going? it depends a lot on which part and what kind of shops you are going if you can find lobang, maybe you want to consider getting the shuang1 mian4 xiu4 where each side of the embroidery shows a different pix. me looking for someone to get in china also. you can help? personally i think EVERYTHING is china is cheaper but you must know where to go if you dun know anyone there then it's a little more difficult to know the right place to go
  20. the shop i went to offered the elmark 52" at $220 with four lights if want to change to remote controlled is $290 but the fanco aroma (the one with round fluorescent light) is $250 with remote control, this one not available in non-remote controlled version
  21. think those fans scoria76 bought are with the two strings if want to modify to become remote controlled got to pay more not just the remote control itself per se... what do you all think of elmark? read the thread about the horrorible after-sales service, very worried coz one of the fans i'm aiming is an elmark
  22. thanks for the heads up watched that episode, only interested in the shop that sells the second-hand hotel stuff, think add is 153 jalan umpat but dun know where is that !! have went down to wihardja several times, cheap but workmanship leaves much to be desired. had wanted to buy a low table with drawers but when i pull the whole drawer out, there are nails sticking out behind! if want to buy from there must check and check and check somemore the shop selling chairs also did not come across as cheap find that the hosts very exaggerating... but they didn't state which shop or industrial park they went to get the grilles i went down to panggiap but the shop looks so messy and pple unfriendly so didn't venture inside. most prob will just call and ask for the price psf before asking them to come down to measure and quote...
  23. my two cents worth: products are chosen based on our lifestyle needs maybe you want to think about why you are purchasing the product oven - personally didn't even think of buying this coz dun really bake so just those $20 ones will do for me hob - using turbo now, fits my needs i.e. battery on top (not using plug-in), fire big enough for asian stir-fry and centre broad enough to put pots hood - not buying also coz dun think it's gonna help. after cooking still got to wipe, might as well wipe the tiles fridge - i like tall and skinny fridge. used to have ariston, now using sharp 300+litres, got it at neighbourhood shop for $580. three doors coz need the bottom drawer for my mum's dry goods washing machine - how often do you wash? (9.5kg quite big for family of two) what kind of clothes do you have i.e. delicates or t-shirt jeans? do you need hot water or higher spin speed (for very dirty clothes) tv - 2 tv for the living? personally aiming at pioneer or hitachi plasma so can't help you there aircon - getting LG system 3 non-inverter for $1650 inclusive of installation (class 0 insulation, gr 23 copper piping, unlimited piping). seems that the daikin newer models not so good. might want to confirm one model in mind, then go IMM that row of aircon shops and ask for best price
