  1. yes yes that's gracious but i've met quite a lot of pple who thinks that it's only right if you hold the lift / door for them not even an acknowledgement that you exist actually it's the other way round loh for one person to stand on the 'wrong' side of the escalator, at least 20 more could have passed through as more volumn is 'processed' if they walk up the escalator so time for 20 person wasted because ONE person don't want to keep to one side  we are not talking about shopping centres but rush hour at mrt stations if the 'right' side is clear, quite a number of commuters will walk up/down the escalators this reminds me of the driving habits of singaporeans, but that's another topic for another day on another thread
  2. they have standard sized tracks 60cm / 90cm / 120cm but i'd not recommend the kitchen track coz i didn't use the towel hanger or hook that comes with it no point paying more for it loh go down to homefix ikea to check it out, you can find out everything you need to know there
  3. hehehe, coz cooking is done for five, six persons mah even 40cm i find too small liao, coz everytime i fry things the food will fly all over think i too vigorous liao actually come to think of it, i also don't know if my sink is considered top or under mounted coz the edges is covered by the granite countertop, without the countertop it looks like top mount loh just that a concrete 'extension' is built to put the sink on the 'legs' hope you get what i mean, coz i think it looks confusing
  4. actually can mount any height coz won't be putting it anywhere near the sink lah appliances cannot kenna water one mah, so won't be a problem 3ft for sink and stove is a rough guide my sink is 86cm and my stove also 86cm my bottom cabinet (6ft) + sink support (4ft) is 10ft liao leh check out this blog entry and you'll get what i mean got pix of the messy eubiq track dangling wires too http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?au...284&cat=213
  5. to be fair, i got my sink from the genting road main showroom and the service there is quite good but the uncle a bit pushy as in he very eager to recommend products kind of pushy if i were to get anything, think i'd still go back to the genting road one
  6. check out the thread on ceiling fan, a forummer installed the $800+ fan leh really nice... as for the translucent fan, you might want to think twice coz your lights will NOT be mounted above the fan so can't really see the effect wor
  7. think i have an international face whichever country i go, they always take me as their countryman remember when i was in guangzhou, me and bf went into a shoe shop i was trying on a pair of shoe and my bf was looking around when the salesman serving told me in a small voice 'your friend from singapore right? we are zi ji ren then i tell you, singaporean all got this air very easy to recognise one' i was so embarrassed that i didn't dare to clarify that i am too a singaporean especially for thai and japanese, you can tell they are polite from their heart really enjoyed myself in these countries that i just kept going back !!
  8. think HDB's limit is 4" stem i.e. the max distance between fan and ceiling is 4" the yuragi 'stem' looks long to me
  9. check out the thread on the MRT complaints i posted a similar scenario in there that's why i only give my seat to HEAVILY pregnant women, very sure cannot run kind
  10. a foot is about 30.48cm, add to that 3ft each for stove and sink that's 7ft (213cm) min with no countertop space whose kitchen can afford? that's why must do proper planning if plan the height well then will look like this liao
  11. i won't say i'm a very gracious person but i DO give up my seats to those who need it more esp elderly and heavily pregnant women i always keep to the left of the escalator or driving lanes except when overtaking that's the reason why i'm lagi pis*ed by pple who can't do it let me count the societies that are gracious japan, thailand, m'sia, HK, england etc etc etc other than england which i've not been, i've thoroughly enjoyed my stay in these countries coz pple there are considerate they DO think about pple around them, unlike here
  12. that's the whole underlying issue most don't care if it's rude or inconsiderate to do certain things they'll shoot back with 'why? against the law ah? ask the police catch me lah' which is :P
  13. it's recommended that these three items be as close to one another as possible the triangle is a favourite, though in a straight line is as fine however, our kitchen too small to have them in a straight line without two of them quite close to each other sink and stove should be as least a foot apart, and the sink is usually positioned far away from power points i got the standard length one, not wire dangling when the eubiq pple install it's the appliances' wire dangling when i plug them in like this
  14. personally, i think concrete sink support is good enough sink area tend to have a lot of moisture so wood is not a good idea stove wise, think cabinet should do the job liao
  15. there was a 'keep left' campaign sometime back but singaporeans are just too bochap hopefully we will slowly but surely become a gracious society by giving way, thanking pple and helping to open doors/give up seat
  16. can't say i like him very much but he is a **** of a leader
  17. hi, i don't know which chapter it is maybe a search on the internet will reveal that but that's the succession law in singapore if a person dies, 100% of his estate will go to spouse if no children if got children then spouse 50% and children share the remaining 50% if single then i think 100% to parents a hdb will form part of the deceased's estate if he is the sole lessee ultimately, like what waileong said a will is the best coz it cuts down a lot of red tape and waiting if the wife's name is included as a owner under joint tenancy, then there's no need for a will but if the wife's name is included as a owner under tenancy-in-common, she'll still have to go through all the legal hassle to get the unit all to herself other than CPF monies and insurance policies assigned to ex-spouses, can't think of anything that can't be in a will think market rate is $50? but hor, that's only the writing part does not include execution or whatever that is required
  18. so far the good advice i've ever heard about investments are: 1. buy when everyone is selling and sell when everyone is buying 2. buy and hold, don't punt so far this has worked for me !!
  19. purple/violet - my favourite pix pix !!
  20. sigh, i totally agree with him !!
  21. found the link provided by CM http://www.blindsgallery.com.sg/
  22. actually it's not so much left or right loh in the countries i've visited, pple automatically stands to ONE side in singapore you can see ALL but one standing to one side and the only one standing on the other side feels it's his rights to stand and block everyone else :sport-smiley-004: totally agree with what MM Lee says (refer to my t-blog for the article posted by MaCe) he'll never see singapore become a gracious society
  23. firstly, why is there a need to transfer ownership for HPS to kick in??? husband is lessee right? HPS protection 100% right? so if anything happens to husband then HPS will kick in liao loh flat will still go to the wife coz of the interstat law don't think transfer of ownership got to do with hdb loan right? the wife is not buying over the shares right?
  24. not everybody can throw 20k in blue chips limit at 35% means you gotta have a ordinary bal of almost $60k
  25. eh think i'm quite unlucky coz the singaporeans i met on my overseas trips ARE embarassing !! when having breakfast at the hotel, you can be sure that the ones leaving plates filled with food behind are singaporeans you can also be sure that those who are demanding instant attention from 3* hotel waiters are singaporeans oh okay, then maybe we got to order online afterall but guess i'll check out the two shops first who knows there might be something !! !! yes i've always wanted to try boutique hotels, esp 'Jia' in HK but budget constraint until i come across this baiyoke boutique hopefully the price will remain around this region
