  1. if no new nomination is made then the cpf funds will automatically form part of your estate, which will be distributed according to the interstat law i.e. to your spouse and/or child(ren)
  2. oh dear, has the problem been solve will check out your blog to see if the lights are up saw another tile from another shop that i really liked but a bit worried about the quality it's 800 x 800 homo tile going for $3.2 but the salesperson say can discount to $2.5 if i take more than 1,000sqf dun know why she can discount a whopping $0.70 psf, could it be quality problem??? then another thing is the skill of the hdb contractor, can he lay the 800 x 800 tiles well??? argh, i am so lost
  3. one thing to note is that your cpf nomination made before marriage is automatically void if you ROM. means even if you nominate your parents as the beneficiary before marriage, once you sign on the dotted line without making another nomination would mean ALL your cpf money goes to spouse if anything happens... also note that nowadays insurance companies (except NTUC) usually do not allow policy nomination bcoz of some stupid law that prevents you from changing the beneficiary in the case of divorce (if the beneficiary is your spouse at point of purchase)
  4. erm, think if married liao parents won't get anything according to interstat law deceased single = 100% parents deceased married = 100% spouse (if no children), 50% spouse and 50% divided equally among surviving children deceased no spouse no parents = divided equally among surviving siblings the above is for non-muslim, muslims follow syariah low actually joint tenancy is just convenient i.e. you dun need to apply for letter of probate, or show the will to claim for the flat. however do note the proportion of DPS purchased. if you and spouse each paying 50% of installment, likely also protected 50-50 i.e. you still have to pay your remaining 50% if your spouse passed away (unless both of you are insured 100%, which is very expensive) tenancy-in-common is more commonly used in private properties but you can opt for it for hdb flats as well
  5. that's my last choice coz like you said, it's very stuffy and also my cats' teeth all very sharp lost my cat coz he bit through the mesh and escaped
  6. it's actually in the news and if you are interested, you can check out the singapore law journals on the judge's decision in divorce cases... the housework part is most of the time deduced by how much time husband spend at home (if little means little contribution to housework), witness accounts e.g. neighbours and relatives and the use of maids etc for most properties, there's joint tenancy and tenancy-in-common joint tenancy simply means that the co-owner will become the sole owner when the other owner dies. the deceased cannot will the flat/apartment away. for tenancy-in-common, the percentage is usually stated on the deed, e.g. husband 50%, wife 50% or husband 80%, wife 20%. this you can will away... one more thing about divorce, you will have to maintain your wife in the lifestyle that she is accustomed to. remember the case of the rich tai-tai? the husband have to pay $5k simply bcoz she is accustomed to that kind of lifestyle the husband put her in
  7. you can either pour water to see if puddles are formed or try using a fifty-cent coin and shot it across the floor carrom-style if it gets deflected then the tiles are uneven...
  8. i really really suspect someone is reading this just received a call from the tile contractor he said that the tile we choose is out of stock and the next shipment will only arrive on 7 or 8 May. so it's either wait or choose another tile sigh... why me???
  9. still no news from the tile contractor on the status of the tiling works last sat went down and the hacking is only halfway done will pop by tomorrow and check if the hacking has been completed my lappy is still not back yet called on wed to check the repair status and they told me can't find anything wrong with the screen. had to explain to them that the colour will only change when the laptop heats up to above 40 degrees. then the technician insist that they on the laptop for two consecutive days also no problem. guess what - they called me yesterday to tell me that the colour finally changed (i suspect they didn't switch on the laptop, only did so after my call) and they will be ordering the parts the parts will only arrive on mon or tue so that means another week without my lappy
  10. hehe, should have made myself more clear i have cats so very afraid of them jumping out the windows if i can't find grilles with small enough gaps to prevent that from happening, i will not open any windows liao my current home grilles are small enough but it seems that no ones does it anymore (or asking for $15psf for aluminium)
  11. actually the buyer most likely will be my neighbour if i remove the grilles will give buyer a discount bah want to find out if anyone did it before and using which contractor if i cannot find suitable grilles means i cannot open windows at all how like this???
  12. 文殊菩萨 - got pix? maybe buy one and put in my room or the study
  13. guess TS is prepared for the moral lecture liao bah but like what MaCe had pointed out, the Women's Charter is enacted to protect all women, local and foreign alike. a husband is bound by law to maintain his wife, so at the same time of getting the hdb flat, TS you must be prepared to pay your 'wife' a sum of money till she gets married again. think the amt of money is enough for you to pay for a private property liao. esp if the hdb flat is used as a matrimonial home, the 'wife' is entitled to a share of it depending on her contribution - that includes doing housework. so if she is in charge of housework and TS you pay the bill, then the 'wife' will most prob get 30% to 50% of the flat = $100k to $200k ultimately, is it worth it?
  14. have called quite a few companies but they either dun have the design i want (nolonger in production) or lion open big mouth and asked for $15psf for normal aluminium now exploring the possibility of dismantling the grilles from my current home and bringing them over for some slight modification to fit the windows anyone did this before?
  15. or if you can provide a good reason to hdb e.g. moving back to take care of elder parents, going overseas to work for prolonged period etc. my friend rented out his unit coz he is posted overseas for two years
  16. strawberry02, where did you get your string curtains? thinking between string, oil paint bamboo or beads...
  17. think muslims legally can have 4 wives so form family nucleus liao mah i also not sure, must wait for hdb's reply to the forum letter bah
  18. dear dear, what am i going to do??? checked with one that quote me $15 psf and the other $5psf didn't ask the $5psf one to come down yet coz really not sure if they are going to lion open big mouth when they come down to do measurements !!
  19. coz patrick's contractor dun have the grilles i want !! now got to look for my own contractor to do the windows and grilles quite like the windows in my rooms coz dun have the centre rod thing so thought since they are coming down to change the glass pane might as well as them to do the windows as well maybe will be cheaper as they have the stock liao mah uniform look across board mah
  20. actually think that the ID/contractor should foresee this kind of things that's what the site visit is all about right? unless it's something that was highlighted but wasn't included, then later the owner change their mind and wants to add it in... they are in this line for so long, should already know what must be done mah unless they purposely dun highlight then wait for you to realise, use the opportunity to ask for more money
  21. wah, $5k!!! all inclusive or just to ride the camel? maybe other than painting myself, got to make kitchen cabinet myself too now just patiently waiting for hdb contractor to finish the tiling works then will do another round of inspection to see what else need to be done anyone has the experience of getting the hdb aluminium contractors do your windows at balcony/yard?
  22. rules governing private and hdb properties are very different buying a hdb flat, you need to form proper family nucleus, or be orphaned or aged above 35yrs blah blah blah b uying private property, all you need is money. as for the joint singles thingy is for withdrawal of cpf. if you using all case, you can have as many as you can afford to with anyone you like - foreigners and locals alike
  23. can be on top of the dish rack thought usually dish rack open concept, then the two doors above frosted glass?
  24. wow, MaCe you sure have a lot of ideas how to spend money the reindeer ride sounds so romantic and interesting... guess only when we really start sourcing for contractor/ID do we realise that there are a lot more things to be done then flooring and kitchen cabinets. every little item cost extra and all seem to be must-dos e.g. base for washer/cabinet, installation of hood/instant heater, windows for balcony/yard etc. all these are better done now than later. hmmm, MaCe give so many ideas leh should i paint my place on my own so that i can go ride camel???
  25. actually only budgeted $10k initially coz thought will bring over all our old furniture. then my dad ask for new bookcase, my mum wanted new mahjong table and wardrobe... thank goodness managed to save quite a bit on lights total damaged $500 including installation for 13 lights except dining and my room coz going for ceiling fan in these two area Homeowner, which mover you using? me looking for one that can dismantle and reassemble wardrobes leh got any to recommend?
