Hi Jumbopanther, Do you have a full picture of the windows and doors you are using? I'm interested in Fascina white upvc windows and french doors but the price is rather steep. Yours, from the 1st photo of the shoe cabinet, look similar to the one I'm considering. Where are they from?

Hi Suyun, Your house is taking shape nicely and smoothly, it seems. I'm still at an early pre-teardown stage. Going through the tender returns with my architect this evening. Hopefully, we can award the job to a construction firm soon. Are you seriously considering installing solar panels for yr house? My husband is toying with the same idea too but I'm a rather concern of the initial investment and subsequent maintenance/replacement costs. Can share what you have gathered so far? We are now looking for companies to do the wooden floring for bedrooms as well external decking. Who did you engage? How about aircon installation? Was it Gain City? I'm a little overwhelmed by the no. of things I have to consider..

Suyun, Whereabouts are you? Am still at planning stage. My architect and PE have yet to submit development applications to the authorities. Yeah, I think I'll start a blog once I've figured the ins and out of online postings. We definitely should compare notes , lending each other some support so that we survive this reno journey unscathed haha...

Ehspro, Quite a well maintained home. MOve-in condition.Just bring your luggages and furniture . But like you've said, , embarking on a reno journey can be exciting and addictive. Especially after you've seen the reno photos and read the T-blogs. You can almost feel the actions.... So what the plan? Minor touch-ups or major overhaul?

Thanks Lauer and Pantieileen for your inputs. I know I should trust my architect as he is indeed very experienced and knowledgable. At least I'm now able to get rid of the lingering feeling that the soil test may be optional.

hi smhj, do you need to submit a soil investigation report to BCA for approval?

I'm about to embark on house-reconstruction journey, adding an attic to my 2-sty inter terrace and doing extension both in front & at the rear. The proposed GFA is abt 3750sqft (from existing built-up area of 2400sqft) The enginner has confirmed that the current foundation is srong enough and no piling is required. We have done a topographical survey which is required in the submission for approval to URA. Next will be the soil investigation survey. I have learned from the forum that you could buy a copy of the soil test report from any of your neighbours (within 50m radius) who has done it. It is acceptable to BCA. I have approached some of my neighbours who have recently done major a&a and rebuilding, but they claimed that they did not do the test as it is not required. My question is: 1. Is soil investigation mandatory? Is my architect just playing it safe? thanks much...
