  1. Actually in this case, the new employee has to partly responsible for not checking the maternity leave eligibility before she joins. It's stated on the MOM website : http://www.mom.gov.sg/publish/momportal/en...nity_Leave.html But I'm surprised that the bosses did not ask during the interview. I'm also in the govt sector, and one of the question they asked me during the interview was my family plans, since I was newly married at that point of time.
  2. depends, I'll go if I'm in first or second trimester, provided that I don't have morning sickness and provided the trip does not involve a lot of climbing, hiking etc...you'll get the idea.
  3. Like zirhk3355, I was a "half-weekday" bride ! hee hee...I had my tea ceremony etc on a Sunday and my wedding dinner on the next day...a Monday. This arrangement is good for relatives since they do not need to take leave to attend the tea ceremony, so no excuse for them not to come...hee hee.. And also no excuse for the jie meis and xiong dis! Surprisingly, the attendance of my wedding dinner was good, and like what xinyi said, the dinner started on time and ended on time. I guess the trouble for a wedding dinner on a Monday would be for relatives who work. They'll need to fetch their kids from school, change, then come to the dinner. What you can do to alleviate the problem is try to hold the wedding during school hols. But the weekday dinner is not a problem for colleagues, because, being a Monday, everybody sianz to work OT , so left the workplace punctually and everyone came in a group. However, some brides don't like to split across 2 days cos of the hassle, but I'm ok with that. Cos I would have time to rest and prepare myself for the dinner.
  4. oh dear...do take care ! HFMD does spread to adults..my friend got it from her nephew a few years back... Can your in-laws/parents come over and help out ? for food, don't serve it hot to your son because the ulcers would be painful. You can also try jelly or cool barley water. Must ensure he drinks lots of water since he is having diarrhea too...
  5. Hi rebtang, Yes, the childcare environment is good, because children learn by copying...so monkey see monkey do...when they see their friends eating, they'll follow suit. Don't worry, your son will improve over time! At home, does your son eat together with the rest of the family at the dining table or do you feed him alone? I realise that my son eat better when we sit together and eat at the dining table. Similar to childcare setting. For fresh milk, you may like to warm it before giving to him, if the coldness is a concern Like you, I also wake up during nights to feed him when he was refusing milk. Even up till now, when he has nightmares (which occurs pretty frequently), he'll request for milk, and I'll make for him. But I'm trying to reduce it now...cos I think it's timely for a 3yo boy to stop night feeding. sigh...all the things we are willing to do for our children
  6. Hi rebtang, No problem ! I think your son prefers food easily to swallow...doesn't like to chew. My son was like that too! I think it's because he is used to the food texture that my mom gave him...porridge, pureed apple, banana etc. Like you, we decided to put him in childcare to let him learn how to socialise and also hopefully to change his eating habit. Now, 7 months later, I can see that he is slowly opening up to more variety of food, and chewing his food more. We also do not puree his food now, and introduce rice and noodles to him. He is coming to 3 years now. I also heard pediasure is good, especially for picky eaters. But because my son is taking his current milk well, I didn't change for him. You can also try cheese, yoghurt, milk bread, soya milk etc. to replace the calcium in the milk. You can also try fresh milk, UHT milk too. It's true children's taste changes. My son refused milk from 2.5 months old till 1 year old. Really no milk unless he was sleeping. We were so desperate that we started solids for him when he was 3 mths old. On this topic of milk refusal, I suddenly recalled a conversation that I overheard recently. This father bought 8 tins of 2 kg milk for his 3-year-old to beat the GST hike. But 1 fine day, his 3 yo just decided not to drink milk! Not even a single drop! So no choice, the parents bought UHT milk and his 3 yo loved it. But more expensive lah haha...so cute...he is right ! none of the brands of the babies'/children's milk taste nice !
  7. Hi rebtang, should always introduce new milk powder gradually to babies and toddlers. This is for us to easily identify any allergies and help the children to slowly get used to the new taste. What you can do is to mix the 2 milk powders, with the new milk powder in small quantity, then slowly increase it. Here's what I do: Day 1: 1 scoop new, 5 scoops old (1 scoop for 1 oz or abt 30ml) Day 2: 2 scoops new, 4 scoops old . . (increase 1 scoop new for each day) . . Day 5: 5 sccops new Although milk is basically the same, the composition of each brand is still different and each child's reaction to the same brand of milk is different. Therefore need to observe whether the child is suitable for the milk, like whether he constipates or have very loose stools after drinking the milk. Hope it helps.
  8. My mum's thinking of renting 1 room out. but dunno how to split the utilities bill, especially that's the only room with aircon. anyone knows whether there is such a device in the market ? So we can definitively pinpoint how much electricity is consumed by the aircon..

    Career Change ?

Anyone here had a career change before ? I'm getting sick of my current job nature, or the entire industry...cannot see the light anymore thinking of switching to hospitality management...but dunno how to go about doing it.... also worried about whether i'm too old to switch
  10. Wow ARCHer thanks ! Yup, noted this one, especially we intend to bring this when we go for tours. I think I prefer harddisk type. But there are not many models of harddisk camcorders available in the market. JVC has the most, but is JVC a good brand ? Is the difference between harddisk and DVD media types only in the editing part ? Are there any lag time in the camcorder writing the video data onto the DVD whilst shooting? I don't intend to buy the HD one. But what's the next best resolution ? Is it a common one ? ok noted, thanks ! Do u know whether I can find out the above 2 just by looking at the specifications alone ? any good website to recommend on the reviews ? I only managed to find cnet (lousy), clubsnap (too cheem) Thanks Thanks !
  11. Any specific model to recommend ? I'm looking for something easy to carry, and easy to transfer out, good resolution (of course) . But not sure what to look out for...can the experts help ?? Thanks
  12. In the end, we bought an outdoor blind from Spotlight. It's made of canvas, and meant for outdoor. Installation + blind is about $150.

    Movers

Hi applefreak, we just moved ! the mover I engaged was pretty good...they can dismantle and reassemble for you. They are also pretty careful with our furniture, although no bubble wrapping. Their services are pretty good, punctual, fast and courteous. You can contact Jimmy at 92716042.
  19. We visited sin yick seng...the person has some attitude problems. They don't seem to have a fixed price. E.g. we enquired installation service, they quoted $150. Then when we saw what we wanted, they quoted us $300, inclusive of installation. When we say we install ourselves, they then said they will discount 10% off the $300...?? We were so surprised ! 10% of $300 is not equal to $150 leh ! feeling cheated, we left. Anyone visited George's Bamboo Chick Center ?? btw, what's the diff between indoor and outdoor blind ? Is it just the layer of lacquer ? If yes, can i just buy from IKEA and spray a layer of lacquer on it ? We intend to hang the blind on the balcony...
  20. use a bamboo stick to scrap it off ?? better do this at night, later drop on someone's head !
  21. ok...time to test my description skills... let's see whether the door specialist understand what i mean ... thanks everyone !
  22. Yes. confirmed. We are currently doing that cos we are in between transactions. but what we did is to reduce the installment on the old flat (go to branch office to do that). So our cpf still enough but we found a buyer already
