  1. That was my original intention. But I got the previous owner to leave me a very retro looking solid wood dresser and I have a weakness for retro stuff. Maybe when the renovation is more completed, I can think of better layouts...
  2. Nice kitchen shelves! The wall with the clock very nice too! Check with you, did you manage to find some nice shelves for the bathroom to put toiletries? Recall seeing your pictures of the ledge done by Mr K but looks rather small to place the usual required toiletries.
  3. nice. i tried using some applications with 3d view but gave up. hey ur kitchen really looks huge in comparison. yes, i also find the mbr small. still cracking my head how to put a wardrobe, bed and dresser.
  4. Haha, first time experience. actually i couldn't find the t-blog feature and thought its the same thing...
  5. Hi Mike I finally set up my blog on renotalk. Feel free to drop by. My link cheers originalbread
  6. they never stop amazing you right? The different laminate doors is ultimate. Die die must change. All those that you pointed out are really not acceptable. very stressful to do renovation. I encountered a number of issues too. After seeing many nice pics of your house, I motivated to set up a blog on renotalk too. Feel free to drop by when you are less stressed. Though progress is slow, I already regretting choosing some materials
  7. Hi Blurry Kid I finally set up my blog on renotalk. Feel free to drop by! cheers Originalbread
  8. Lovely kitchen! and your living hall looks big. have fun shopping.
  9. I love your sub-way tiled bathroom. And the lamps too. Could you pm me where you bought your lamp too and is it very ex? thanks!
  10. yours blends well. I must have engaged the wrong person to do my house. The contractor tell me that bathroom should only use white grout.
  11. is this really done by a carpenter???
  12. Lovely house! I like your selection of furnishings. And you have a really cute and unique fan. May I know what is the brand of your fan and where to get it? Expensive? Can you feel the wind if not siting directly below? thanks!
  13. thanks Mike. Do you mean light grey only for the dividing section between the bedroom and living room or throughout?
  14. what color grout should I use for my floor tiles? white or light grey? the bedroom tile is a wood like pattern, while the living room is travatine like design. My contractor recommends white. But I'm contemplating light grey, as I don't want a too contrasty looking grout. But I also scared grey would look dirty, or even look like the floor we see in public places. Contractor said he has not done light grey for any home before. how could it be?
  15. 55 post it tags! I think the carpentry part must be the most trying on your patience. hope they quickly rectify soon.
  16. Hi theitsybits May I know what is the color of your floor tile grout? I picked wood like colored tiles for my bedroom (a bit similar color tone as yours) and greyish beige tiles (travertine-like) for my living room. My contractor recommended white grout for these two areas so that it doesn't look weird with two colors at the joining. But after he recommended me unsuitable bathroom wall tiles (I almost tell him to dismantle and return the tiles ), I seriously doubt his taste and recommendations. He didn't even showed me the grout samples and assumed I can make the decision just asking if I want white grout or grey cement. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the same contractor as you as Mr K seems really busy. Based on the few houses I've seen over renotalk, I think he should be able to make better recommendations, though of course, the owners having good taste also played a huge part! thanks. 17. Wow, I love your house! Very well designed, and the combination of white, black and wood look perfect, something I could never achieve no matter how much apartment therapy posts I read. And your pictures are very well shot. I like your kitchen close up shots and the pic with the bookshelves.
  18. Nice! even the walkway to your kitchen and rooms look showed that you have put a lot of effort in designing. and that's a cool bomb shelter door!
  19. looks good. actually they simpler the keep the design, the better it is usually. haha, agree that should save the money for your next house...
  20. I remember the filling up was very simple, but better to just ask the carpenter how. Yes, agree really not acceptable. Particularly the worksmanship of your bookshelves as shown in your close up shots. must be very frustrating for you. Must withhold the payment to make them quickly rectify the problems.
  21. Wow, that's very value for money. Contractor quoted me main door price is about $450 (non-solid wood), $500 (veneer); wrought iron metal grill $480. toilets super ex to do. I do hacking and tiling of the wall of toilet & bathroom already $2K. Maybe you want to go for something in between, don't upgrade the doors first and wait for HDB. For toilet, I would think just do it though ex as very troublesome and messy to let them do it when you are staying in. Not sure if under HIP, you could choose tiles. HDB sometimes offer very obiang looking wall tiles. but if really budget consious, then must wait for them to do. Yes I hacked all the floor except kitchen, which contractor says most likely can lay over if no hollowness. The terrazo in living and bedrooms were in bad condition and couldn't layover. btw, how to check if got HIP? Just ask HDB branch office? oh, and water heater installation usually they charge, mine quote me $60. but basin that sort of stuff I not sure. I found a designer which I think price not so different from contractor, 3d Innovations, Jimmy Tan, HP: 8571 8531. Read from other pages of this forum that he keeps to budget and discusses in great details to find out what the customer wants. But in the end I decided to stick to the contractor who I used before.
  22. I hate it when the wood has rough edges and holes in the cabinets. For the holes, you can ask the carpenter to fill them up. Not sure what the material is called, but he just squeeze something in that is similar color and its filled up within a few seconds.
