  1. ooo.. okok i thought u're going to change it to pendant.. is track light really that bad..? now i'm also worried o.o
  2. hmm the 3 round lights generally means it's a 3W light (so far - 4 small round lights = 4W, and 5 small round lights = 5W (but this one casing is a bit bigger and cant fit into regular 5W track light bulb casing), there are also 7W, 8W, 10W versions that are one bulb each o.o).. dispersion is the part where u cant really use ur naked eye to evaluate what degree the bulb is.. if u have 2 bulbs side by side, den at most can do comparison.. e.g. if u place 35 degree light beside 26 degree light - it'll be obvious that one disperses the light more than the other... this is what we've learnt from talking to a few salespeople.. of cox i might have explained it wrongly since i'm not a pro >.< so please pardon me if i'm wrong! actually - if u wan to know the brightness, dun look at it directly.. shine it on the floor and see its effect - that way u can evaluate the brightness and dispersion at the same time =D hmm.. if u decide to use pendant light instead, where will u shift ur track light? o.o
  3. hi cookiez! curiously, where did u see the sofa? =D
  4. our design for the house includes having a fan in the living room ceiling.. (unfortunately at that time we didn't decide to have a ceiling fan at the MBR, and rectifications to include the ceiling fan at MBR will cost 1000SGD n above and we decided to skip it and purchase a standing fan instead.. while searching for ceiling fans, we ran into a huge headache.. we were picky!! or maybe i should say i was picky =( my darling geek was ok with anything as long as it spins and is reasonably durable with a reasonable wind speed and air distribution ability.. but picky me considered the aesthetics (wanted something sophisticated).. initially we were considering kdk fans due to durability.. but the silver fans and red logo made us blur.. and so the search led us to the following fans: Minka Aires Artemis Fan Minka Aires Wing Fan Sycamore fan Haiku Fan Our first choice based on price was the Artemis fan, followed by wing, haiku then sycamore.. functionality wise we have heard and read feedback about haiku and sycamore but not about wing and artemis.. coupled with the fact that we can buy only from Australia (we emailed the US company and Australia company to see if there was any way to bring it in), we gave up on trying to get the fan from Australia as there were too many things to consider (warranty and installation and maintenance).. In the end we selected haiku.. was a long process though as haiku price had already gone up to around 900 by the time we wanted to get it (i heard that it is at 1200 now?).. we chose black as my geek thought it looked like some military aircraft (i forgot the name he used - was it stealth wing?) and hence preferred it over the white haiku.. (o.o)
  5. oops forgot to add picture of the CH3OH light (general name as it looks like some molecule hahahah)
  6. oooo.. maybe when u talk to them, u can try asking for a 8W and above LED bulb with a larger degree of light dispersion? normally when they intro the bulbs, they'll say 'this is a 8W light bulb 35 degree' or something similar.. the degree is an indication of how dispersed the light is.. the lower the degree (e.g. at 26 degree) the light functions more like a spotlight.. whereas at 35, it is more dispersed and might be better for the kitchen.. we also want LED tracks for the kitchen.. but in lieu of the light brightness, we're considering if we should switch to energy saving bulbs on track - but the housing is really quite huge!! rawrrr
  7. hi itsy! good advice there - indeed - just like women, houses also need maintenance to remain beautiful, and if the owners love the house, they will put in more effort to clean and maintain it.. oh well - we've already chosen the laminates for the kitchen and living room, so i guess the only other way is do fairer colours for the bedroom >.< and, despite the weird happenings in your recent posts, i must say congratulations on our lovely house! nice to see how the splashes of bright colours would look like against the wood =D when r u moving in? hehe..
  8. anyway, our favorite light by far is actually the artichoke light - ya - i keep talking about it - haha.. first saw it in lieblingsg's photo (his Tiong bahru SIT flat).. we like the angular frames on the light =D look at the original! (we took this photo at a shop along balestier road =D this picture wowed me a lot as it looked exactly like the pictures they have online (i thought they photoshopped it).. unfortunately, two reasons why we wouldn't be getting this original light: a) it's TOO EXPENSIVE for our budget b) this light is 800mm - too big for our house o.o they have the 600mm version too.. but the price is still a deterrent.. so we set out.. to find the imitation one - though will not be as nice but at least within our budget o.o they have it in 400mm and 300mm (size is better for our HDB flat - now the unofficial names we gave to all these are 'grandpa choke' (800mm original artichoke), 'papa choke' (600mm original artichoke), 'baby choke' (400mm imitation choke) and 'mini choke' (300mm imitation choke).. there are two shops where we found the imitation artichokes - one along jalan besar and one along balestier - both prices are different though I'm not sure if the materials are different o.o we have decided to get baby choke for our dining light - but am a bit concerned about it rusting as we are in punggol o.o but i guess we'll be taking the risk and seeing how it turns out to be o.o
  9. I like this piece too - and it is called - '4 bulbs in a box' hahaha we first saw this light at a nim residence (along potong pasir) showroom - loved this light so much but didn't include to have it in our plans so am unable to buy it now even though we like it =( somehow it looks better as a wall light rather than the ceiling light featured here - please see and compare! anyway - name for this light - 'silver fern' silver fern light on ceiling silver fern light at display at nim residence showroom disclaimer - please note that all names given to lights in our forum posts are not the actual names of the light - these names were given to the lights by us to help us be able to remember which light we are talking about...
  10. and i call this - the naked chandelier (i think my geek is going to go crazy with all the names i give to the lights lol - but i reasoned - if the artichoke and discoco both have names, why shouldn't the rest?? the bell lights look cute too! another discoco light - not sure if it is imitation o.o
  11. meet one of my favorites (i have many), the shop owner calls it art, i like to call it 'birdnest' - endearingly so of cox.. my geek just gawked when i call it bird nest - i think he was thinking of how to clean it o.o and after meeting 'bird nest', please meet 'bird nest in a cage' don't get me wrong - we both like the bird nest and bird nest in a cage - but the thought of having to maintain it plus the possibility of insects getting caught within and burning or crawling around inside with us having no way to extract the insect from the maze just scares us.. so as arty farty it might be, we have to say no to the lights =(
  12. we also went looking for lights~ forgot to take the pictures of the tracklights and downlights that we liked =( imitation of discoco and artichoke light? looks really diff from the real one.. but i guess it has its own style too..
  13. we've started on the talk for the carpentry.. it took a really long time as we addressed a couple of our concerns (including the ease of opening the cabinets, how to solve the issue of the L-shaped wardrobe, study desk and dressing table and settee while maximising the space we can use).. now all that is left are the talk for toilets n laminates~~! kudos to Roy for listening to us.. i think he really has a lot of patience hahaha.. although i must say that he has quite a lot on his hands now.. being sick and having so many people coming up to him for reno o.o anyway, the service yard windows are up! Pasted a frosted sticker on the green glass =D glad to say that it didn't look as green as I'd thought it'd be.. but when i fold all the three panes together, they end up looking green on pictures o.o PD door up~! invested in a PD door to allow us to install the alkaline water system at the service yard.. we had wanted to explore installing the system hidden in our kitchen cabinet, but that model that could do so cost a whooping 2888, and our close friend who is a salesperson at kemp trading recommended that we take the 1888 version as it is better (less maintenance issues though less features and not as pretty)..
  14. =D thanks for prompt reply! btw, is it LED lights or energy saving lights on the track? ya.. i was worried that the lights would get dirty too.. but i've read that the hood would help a lot in terms of oil extraction, and i dun think we'd doing too much deep frying (at most get a deep fryer?) so hopefully it'd be fine =D curiously, u're shining the lights on the cabinets?
  15. Hi crypaz, can i check with u for ur track lights **** room and kitchen - how many watts and dispersion degree are the bulbs u use for the kitchen and living room track lights? we also want to have tracklights (in kitchen and bedroom) but are worried about whether lighting will be sufficient =P TIA~! sarah =D
  16. hi suyun, ur rabbit is soo cute!! netherland dwarf? how old is he? anyway - my parents' place also had a lot of issues with cats - we've got them eating our pets (both chicks and hamsters) and pooping all over our garden.. in the end my grandma came up with the solution - to spray the cats with cold water everytime they come near or to keep the floor wet and full of baskets before we sleep at night - but this is a temporary solution =( they still come back after some time.. cant wait to see ur finished product =D sarah =D
  17. question: 1mm glossy laminate for kitchen cabinet top - is it really a bad idea? my colleagues keep warning me that it will warp.. am really worried now cox we chose a 1mm glossy laminate called cloud for the cabinet top as we din wan cream colour (but this is the only one that comes in 2mm) - sobs..
  18. no worries! congrats on the purchase of your house and happy reno-ing!
  19. thanks suyun~ u're right! missed out that point totally.. perhaps we wun paint it after all.. sanding old paint sounds like it'll be bad for health (since the person sanding will end up inhaling the sanded paint).. will remember your advice! =D
  20. =D no worries! impt to help each other out =) n thanks for checking out our story! let us know if u have any suggestions k? hehehe.. and God bless too~~!!
  21. Hi remy! the MBR floor tiles has a rougher finish - I'm personally very scared of falls (had a issue with my back previously) so during the tile selection, we actually asked for rougher floor tiles but yet not too rough until it'll scratch the skin.. so this is what we got! these also look like wood tiles so it's another plus point hahaha.. (ya pictures dun show tt o.o)
  22. ooo thanks! gotta go ask about the costs though - either that or diy at a later stage =X of cox that's provided my Mr. likes it =X
  23. hehe.. go check go check >.< anyway gate can paint ma? I tot the paint will be easily scratched off the gate so din dare to paint it =(
  24. anyway no la different!! your layout is the one with the bigger kitchen =) mine is the narrow one.. but ur layout is really nice~~ Loving the way ur house looks with the lights on! so nice!! other than ur downlights - are everything else warm white? including the florescent above the wardrobe? could I ask if warm white would be too dark or is it fine? ya.. as what u were saying - u can switch them on accordingly to ur needs? or u can tape cellophane paper to give a colour to the light =X (kidding kidding - sorry bad time for jokes =X) when r u moving in? =D
  25. love ur moodboards n ur radical layout! looking forward to more from u! curiously, r u a damai neighbour? hehehehe =D
