Because of the design,we had a difficult time thinking how we should place the furnitures. The current owners have their living area outside bedroom 2 and the dining area outside study/bedroom area. If we follow them, we will not have any privacy in the master bedroom. Taking the advise from one contractor friend, we decided to move bedroom 2 to the area beside study/bedroom and hack the 2 walls in bedroom 2 so we will have an open concept kitchen. We will use the current bedroom 2 as a dining area and build an island in between that and the kitchen. And we will place the living area beside the dining area, which is the same as the current owners but because of the open concept I am keeping my fingers crossed the space won't look tight Will share with you the few photos of the current house's deco.

Sharing with you the floor plan of the mini jumbo...

I was looking at forums for ideas and chanced upon this forum. A member suggested I start a t-Blog and I decided to do it after seeing what others have done. I love seeing how a house is being transformed hence I do not mind sharing mine, except that I've not started working on it We decided to move from the current 4A flat to a bigger place with 4 bedrooms as the 2 boys are getting older and want their privacy. As our choices were limited (we only want to stay near within walking distance to Tamp MRT) we preferred to buy first before we sell. As fate might have it, when I have given up looking, I saw this jumbo flat for sale. Well, in HDB term it is called 5A but the marketing agent called it a Jumbo. Since it is a 5room flat the price is almost 100-150k cheaper than a EA/EM in the same area. Other 5 room flats in the same area will not give us 4 bedrooms unless we want to move away from the MRT. The flat is a combination of 2 3-rooms. It is not hacked and combined by individual but by the government and are considered 'rare' in the area as only a few units can be found in a few blocks of this cluster of 3 room flats. I offered to the agent on my very first viewing but it took us 3 days to close the deal. The agent wanted to start a bidding game but I refused. I told her I'm willing to pay slightly more than the asking but I want an immediate confirmation. To me, getting the rare unit is more important than anything else. At most I will sacrifice a few holidays haha. The owners asked for 50k cov and I offered 55k and got the unit We are very happy as the unit is only 5 mins away from Tamp MRT. It is really a good deal. The unit cost me 520k + 55k which is so much cheaper than getting a EA/EM! Keys will be collected in October and renovation should start end Oct/early Nov and I hope to move in by December. We are looking at ideas and will hire a contractor to do instead of an ID as it is so much more economical. We especially love contractor who thinks like an ID.

My New Mini Jumbo Flat
ck35 replied to ck35's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
Forgot to highlight my family members staying in the house. My 2 boys aged 16 and 18. The 18 year old loves reading and is quiet..the 16 years old wants a platform bed and he always has many friends popping by for gaming. We are also staying with my mom who is 64 years old and prefers to keep things simple. -

My New Mini Jumbo Flat

Hi There Thanks for the ideas. The balcony (to transform to relax corner) and turning bedroom 2 into dining area with an island in between is also in my mind Except for the master bedroom with platform and walk in wardrobe. Where exactly will you put the walk-in wardrobe? I do not want to sacrifice the window. My friend suggested putting at the area outside the bathroom but that means the windows will be gone and the room will be dark. I love lots of lights in the house and this house is very bright bec of the many windows so I want to let the lights in without blocking any. My new home is at Tampines, it is a combination of 2 3-room flat, which is done by the government, not individual. The few blocks in this area consists of 3 rooms or mini jumbos like mine. -
