  1. hi relacker, ur countertop using 300 x 300 or 600 x 600 tiles?? i spoke with an ID... he mentioned not advisable to use 600 x 600 homo tiles becos higher tendency for hollowness of tiles to occur... better to use 300 x 300 tiles, more grout lines, but more reliable... i also intend to have one part of countertop in tiles, and another part away from water to use another material, prolly solid surface... but dun know whether will turn out aweful or not... color and pattern matching between the two surfaces will be v important...
  2. i went there with the HBAY tour... not sure how to go there by public transport... also dun know whether got granite etc or not cos only concentrated on homo and ceramic tiles...
  3. yupz, hafary has the very big tiles, saw them when i went to their defu showroom abt two months ago... but not sure whether 1000 x 1000 or 1200 x 1200... if 1200 x 1200, can cut into half and maybe use both halves?? cos counter top is 600 mm deep...
  4. For my unit, the HHS is already screeded... can feel/see the cement floor is much smoother than the cement floor of the LR/DR/BR...
  5. i heard from one FS master, shoe cabinet must not be higher than the doorway... perhaps different FS style got different requirements bah...
  6. thanz! 4 months to shift... gotta make appointment with the CLR (collector of land revenue) about 2 weeks before moving to handover the old flat...
  7. i think there are now 1000 x 1000 or 1200 by 1200 homo tiles... saw them at hafary... homo tiles not so easily scratched bah... at least it is more scratch resistant than solid surface...
  8. i have collected my keys! first thing to do is to check for defects cos have only 7 days to report the defects and HDB will rectify them FOC; beyond this period, no more FOC, gotta engage own contractor to rectify them. so far spotted these defects in my unit... 1. hollow wall tiles... when knocked with a metallic object e.g. coin, such tile gives a hollow sound... over time, a hollow tile may come loose and "pop out". About 10 wall tiles spotted as hollow. Floor tiles no problem, all are well-tiled. 2. Main door's side panel is chipped at the edge. 3. Cracked wall near the magnetic door holder. 4. The window handle "stopper" (not sure what is it called) is held by only a single rivet, and could be dislodged quite easily. 5. Not only being easily dislodged, the "stopper" is made of plastic and could crack quite easily too. 6. In the Gas and Water service cabinet outside the flat, the lock is jammed when fully retracted. Not sure if HDB will recognize some of these "defects" as "defects" or not. But i think, just report lah, let HDB decide whether to rectify or not...
  9. how abt using homo tiles instead of granite??
  10. can 60x60cm homo tiles be used as kitchen work top?? how abt 80x80cm homo tiles?? cos usually heard only ceramic tiles (30x30cm) used as worktop... i heard that there's a type of non-porous non-stain homo tiles... seems like this type will be a good choice as a worktop material...
  11. hi little blue bear! i'm thinking of using staron too! can share how much u paid per foot run of staron??? an ID quoted me $100 pfr... thanks!
  12. hi applefreak... sorrie, another question... u using granite worktop, not solid surface surface worktop?? i spoke with an ID today... he said concrete frame goes with either tiles or granite, not solid surface... wooden frame goes with solid surface...
  13. oh, i din know can just buy runners only... clever idea! izzit stated in the runner specifications the max load each drawer can take?? cos blum seems to have drawers with different max load ratings e.g. 30 kg/drawer or 50kg drawer....
  14. cool! i am considering to use blum drawers also! although expensive, it is a worthwhile investment! may i know what are the dimensions and the prices??? thanks!
  15. hi applefreak! nice kitchen! u using the blum drawers???
  16. oops, sorrie, can't rem what it is called... but i think if u say non-porous non-stain homo tiles, the ID should know what u're talking abt... or u can call hafari to enquire...
  17. hi nemofc, there's a type of homo tiles that are non-porous and v stain-resistant... i saw it at hafari and apparently, many other tiles shops also have it... it's more expensive than the "normal" homo tile but less ex than granite... think abt $3+ per piece (60 x 60cm)...
  18. wow! so ex to build the concrete support!
  19. is ur plasma/LCD wall-mounted or on swivel stand? what are ur reasons for choosing wall-mounting or on swivel stand?
  20. the salesman at Sim Siang Choon says even sinks meant for overmounting can be undermounted... just tell the contractor and the contractor will know what to do... overmounted sinks got more varieties... undermounted sink only a few choices... i see that u're using a square base sink... must be v exp rite??
  21. hi applefreak! yes, exactly! so it support the sink?? can the concrete thing be done for undermounting of sink?? izzit the usual procedure??? or do i have to state clearly in the quotation that i want this thing??? thanks!
  22. thanz for the photos! there seems to be no cooker hob for this kitchen???
  23. hi, first, i'm not talking abt the 5cm thick cement base, but concrete walls abt the height of the bottom cabinet... while visiting a flat under renovation, i noticed that the workers had built a few concrete walls first before putting in the cabinet carpentry and the worktop... the concrete walls will sort-of support the base cabinet and kitchen sink... is this the usual procedure??? thanks!
  24. for new estate like ours, supply of sand and haulage must be done by the contractor appointed by HDB and the contractor will charge a flat rate... the name and hp number of the contractor is pasted on the lift lobby of blk 25a... so call the contractor and ask him what is the rate... cos i haven't get keys yet, so haven't called him... so, dun let ur ID overcharge u for sand and haulage cos ur ID won't be the one supplying the sand and haulage... some dishonest ID will claim that they have to book a lorry or what to carry the sand/debris away to ENV-approved dumping ground or what... it is just plain nonsense... !!
