daikin inverter aircons are still using the old R22 refrigerant, which is an ozone-depleting substance... most other brands of inverter e.g. mit elec and toshiba are already using the newer R410A refrigerant, which is harmless to ozone... as for price and performance, mit elec and toshiba are comparable to daikin... in fact, i think toshiba is the cheapest around...

from what i know, the NEA will enforce the Energy Labelling Scheme starting 1 Dec 08, meaning only approved models of aircons and fridges can be sold to consumers... it is best to personally call Toshiba Aircon to check... sometimes, what the salesperson says may be different from what the manufacturer says...

hi yang guo, for PLC downlights rates, check out this thread... for downlights, can choose whether to have either PLC bulb (snap-in type) with magnetic ballast or E27 bulb (screw-in type)... 2 x 13W Osram PLC with Acto magnetic ballast in aluminum die-cast housing is about $20-$25... 1 x 20W E27 bulb in aluminum die-cast housing is abt $15-$20... balestier has lotsa lighting shops, so check out several shops first before committing... some forumers also recommend Sungei Road for cheap lightings...

Necessary To Have Exposed Electrical Trunking For L-box?
redbottle replied to redbottle's topic in Electronics & Electricals
i think i may have found the answer... all the lighting points in the flat share a single 6A fuse, and this is the max current allowed... adding up all the lights and ceiling fan, the total wattage is 706W... for energy saving lamp, need to multiply by a factor of 1.8 to get the actual current drawn, which is hence 5.295A... this is much too close to 6A cos a safety margin of about 1.5A is needed becos the copper wires' resistance will increase with age... well, i guess will have to leave it as it is... -

hi deepakvali, thanks for the reply.... i had looked at the HDB electrical circuit diagram... the rated current is 6A to be shared by 6 original lighting points (foyer, passage way, dining room, living room, bedroom 1 and bedroom 2)... from P=VI, the max total wattage allowed is 1380W.... all my downlights and room lights are 20W E27 lamps and i am using 20 pieces of them altogether as well as a 100W (max) ceiling fan... my max consumption is hence only 500W i.e. 36% of the allowable current... this is just my rough calculation, i'm not a certified electrician also... yes, u're right, the wiring is split so that each switch controls only 3 downlights, and not all the 12 downlights ... -

hi cookcpu, thanks for sharing... good to know the fan is working fine for u... !! -
i have ordered an Elmark 56" silicon steel ceiling fan with remote control for $230... already placed a $50 deposit... delivery is next saturday... just now i happened to read the bad experience of one Elmark fan user and it seems that Elmark has bad customer service... now i am thinking if i should cancel my order and let the shop forfeit the $50 deposit... if Elmark is really that bad, i won't want to spend $35 to install it and then face problems with the fan and then spend another $300 to buy and install another brand fan... Elmark ceiling fan users, please help share ur experience! thanks!
