Valerielow: Your kitchen looks like a showroom piece.. Think you must be really proud of it! Love your toilet doors too. -

Think the wine crates are made from untreated wood. They are unlike the ones used for our kitchen cabinets. So if the termite might migrant from the wine crates to your house furniture if you are unlucky. -
I'm back with more updates... No time to update over the weekends. With reno and wedding preparations going on at the same time, my weekends are never the same again. They are filled with running errands, and more errands. But I must say that the trips are worthwhile...because we are building our home with love. Anyway, I do derive personal satisfaction once I manage to check off individual items on my to-do list. And it's good to see the list getting shorter and shorter for the house as we need to start preparations for the wedding soon. Day 9 Anyway, Hb updated that two sides of the wall tiles are up. The workmanship of the tiler is good. The tiles were evenly spaced and well-aligned with each other. According to my Hb who had a check with the tiler, he has had 20+-years experience in this trade. Hb and I both agree that he takes good pride in his work. I believe quite a no of forumers chose this tile as well but interestingly, the effects turn out quite different. Take a look. The light hitting the walls gives it a tunnel-ish effect. The other side, where we are placing a sliding door. Close-up of the tile itself Waterproofing for toilets and bathrooms are done as well Holes in walls are mended

Wow... am amazed by your wife's creativity!! I didn't know you could make your own decal... How do you print such big decals from a laser printer?

Day 8 Finally get to see the wet works. When we reached yesterday, the workers were still hard at work. This is the wall behind the kitchen cabinet. I told hb that the wall never looked so smooth before!! Very impressed by the 'Shi fus'. This is the opposite wall where tiles would be placed on. Can see that war has begun... Anyone knows if the vent pipes in old Hdb can be removed?

Day 6 Supposed to hack again but Id said auntie downstairs complained that no prior notice was given. Bet she took leave again. Arrgggh this auntie is driving us nuts!! Id agreed and informed her that hacking would be done the next day. Hb told id that even if auntie complains the next day, we will still go on as permit was given. Am glad that id is patient enough to handle this auntie... Day 7 This is the result after id got the hackers to come down again to remove the plaster and parts of the wall again. Much cleaner and better, according to hb.

HDB is just so weird... Hack again and rebuild already still looks the same. Nevermind, you get a new wall

Day 4 Got our electrician to strip all cabling, so id can work more easily. Decided not to use the electrician provided by id. Instead we found a contact from hb's friend and saved a substantial amount. It's a blessing that hb was previously in construction and has many contacts! Cables for workers... all tied up near the db box. All the trunking and cables are gone. All existing lighting removed.

Day 3 We arrived at our home, surprised to see 2 huge mounds of sand...one in the living room and another in the kitchen. This is in the kitchen. This is in the living room. All debris have been removed. I must say that I'm impressed by the process so far. One thing though, hb is not too happy with the fact that the plaster on the kitchen walls were not removed and the toilet and bathroom floors were not totally hacked. We gave this feedback to id. She was indeed responsive (as promised) and added that she would reapply for a permit and ask the hackers to come back to hack these areas. Before I end off, I just discovered that that hb's flat allows for a teeny weeny view of the sea.

Topsy: Yes the full-height cabinet would help to hide the rubbish chute. Hb said it would be his new detention spot when he's naughty. Piknik: Yes, this is the marine terrace area. Love the size of the kitchen. In fact, I believe it would be my favourite spot in the house. Id suggested an L-shaped layout initially. In the end, we decided to have the kitchen cabinets on one side of the wall instead. Would be very much sleeker and neater.

Tiles we chose for the house...mainly in shades of grey and white as we wanted a simple and clean look. Living Room Tiles 600 by 600 homogenous tiles Kitchen Wall and Floor 300 by 600 tiles Our bathroom and toilet tiles (the white tiles for both are slightly different) Wall: 300 by 600 Floor: 300 by 300

Before the reno The Friday before, Id went around to inform the neighbours above, below and next door that we would be renovating the house. This was a polite move, and only logical since they would eventually come to know of the renovation works through the noise. This is something hb and I didn't think of. Complication The only lol moment was that an auntie living below said that she took leave the few days hacking was on. Funny, how would we know that she's taking leave?
