  1. Hi, is KERRICK ( hp: 98477370) the name of the painter who painted your house? His quote is very reasonable. Can I check with you how many coatings and colours he used? Did he use a Sealer as a first coat? I am still debating whether I should DIY my painting works. Thanks

  2. Hi, Need help in sourcing for paint vendor. I just purchased a 2000 sqft patio unit (newly TOP condo) and was quoted $2800 by my ID to paint the house. He said he will use Nippon paint but I still have not checked for details like how many coatings, 1st coat to use Sealer a not? How many colors etc I am no painter but I think I should be able to do the painting myself with my wife. I guess for all painting quotes given, the actual material cost works out to be like only 1/3 of the total? Guess I may as well save myself $2k and enjoy the satisfaction of painting my own house. I need some clarification as follows: 1> Being a new condo unit, all walls and ceilings already have a coat of white paint. As we still want everything to be white, is it still necessary to repaint using a coat of "Sealer" (Nippon Vinilex 5170) or can we just proceed to applying 1 or 2 coats of white paint directly (Nippon Vinilex 5000) ? 2> Our renovation works includes "False Ceiling" and feature walls on 1 side of the living Room and all 4 bedrooms. Do we have to repaint the whole house just to ensure all the white paint looks uniform, or can we get away with leaving those unaffected walls and Concrete Ceiling as it is (just using a wet sponge and scrub away any cement / plaster dust) ? 3> Is it the average price or could I get it for much cheaper at other Paint Shop Vendors? I went to a "Nippon Paint Service Centre" near Bendemeer area and was quoted the below prices. Are the prices reasonable? They provide free delivery for purchases above $300. "Nippon Vinilex 5000" 5 Litre = $55, 20 Litre = $120 "Nippon Vinilex 5170" (oil-based Sealer) 5 Litre = $44, 20 Litre = $110 4> I was told that a 5 Litre can will cover about 250 sqft, so if painting whole house (2000sqft) .. just for ceiling alone.. Will work out to be an area of 6000sqft? (. 1st coat Sealer, plus 2 coats of white paint) I calculate I will then need 6 X 20 litres cans at $120 each = $720 The wall area I still have not measured yet. But based on 1 Sealer of coat plus 2 coats of paint. I guess it will cost at least $1000. I only have a maximum of 4 days to finish the painting. Is it too ambitious a DIY project? Would appreciate any advice from those of you who has tried painting your house. Thank you.
  3. Hi all, I am new to this forum.. created a profile just so that I am able to post an update on the Haiku ceiling fan, having just purchased the "Kotuku" model in composite white yesterday. Imho, the fantastic form factor and function justifies its high price. I require a total of 7 fans for my condo but due to the restricted ceiling space resulting from the false ceiling and cove lights, it is not possible to fit the Haiku fan in all rooms. I could only install in the living room and master bedroom. Potential buyers should let their ID or contractor check whether their ceiling space is sufficient to accommodate the 60" blades of the Haiku. (Dimensions available on the official website). Another point to take note is that for low ceilings (as found in most hdb & condos), opt for the low profile model (249mm) instead of the standard profile model (399mm). This is to minimize the possibility of shadows caused by the cove lights when the ceiling fan is in operation. I think the forum rules do not allow any post containing commercial info such as retailer's names. I will just say that I bought mine from a bath accessories shop ("Universal XXXXX") along Geylang road which has the "white" version on display. Even better, we actually got to use the remote to switch on the fan and experience the different speed/mode settings...My wife fell in love with it instantly lol). Both my wife and me felt that their sales personnel are very helpful and friendly without being overly pushy (Imagine being served hot coffee while you are still only browsing around in the shop . The price is in the region of about SGD$700. Prior to my purchase, I have called up 2 shops selling the Haiku "Kotuku" model and both told me that the price will increase sharply to about SGD$1000 in last week of May 2012. No way for me to verify this, but for those of you who rather not take the risk of this hugh and ridiculous price hike, better go grab your Haiku fan now. Another point to note is that the "bamboo" version costs almost double the price at between SGD$1200 to SGD$1300... Ouch!! Wishing all of you a hassle-free renovation, 2 more months to go for mine
