  1. $730 is 2/3 the price I paid!! wow! You got yourself a very good deal! I've only used the foam stop once. i think our singapore water is quite decent so no problems of foaming i think...
  2. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm really a noob at all these. We actually couldn't receive the Wifi in our MBR so for the whole last week we tried putting the router in the different rooms to see which had better all rounded reception. None seemed to work well so I've heeded your advice and put it on a ladder in the middle bedroom and now everywhere has a good signal. That extra elevation worked like magic! Just wished we knew about it earlier, we could have asked the contractor to get an extra phone point + power socket higher up and also build up a ledge for the router. Yeah, the ladder is just a temporary solution.. need to figure out a more permanent one soon. Are there boosters in the market that will help with the signal strength? Does anyone have a suggestion for me to improve my Wifi signal for the whole house? PMed!
  3. Awesome! How much did you pay for it... grr. Sounds like you got a really good deal. And please let us know how this monster is treating you
  4. Haha. This makes me jealous!! I presume you can see it from the shower area too right? Can you please share more photos of your amazing toilet. On another note, do you use hot water when you shower? Because when I do the whole toilet fogs up.. How do you protect your TV and sound bar from the condensation and humidity?
  5. The iRobot and SV1902 is incomparable... They are in totally different categories and do completely different things. Okay, so I have the Karcher SV1902... but because I like to empty it's water after each use so it takes a little longer to setup than normal vacuums. I also have a basic Samsung vacuum that I got free with my fridge. I use it more than the Karcher because it's simple to setup, just plug and use. So to split up the function of each vacuum cleaners: - I use the Karcher like you would the mop(about once/twice a week) - And I use the Samsung like you would a normal broom(every other day) But because of the crazy amount of hair that we both drop on our extremely white tiles... On top of these 2 vacuum cleaners I'm planning to buy an iRobot Roomba to do the work for us. So that when we get back from our offices there won't be hair on the floor. I don't understand what you mean by hover. I'm not sure about when to change the HEPA. And I think I got mine for $1095.
  6. It's actually quite popular, I've check with a few stores and they move quite fast. About a month before I bought it, when I was doing my research and getting the promoters to give me a demo, all the major shops had it. When I finally bought mine it was the very last piece Harvey Norman had, called all their shops and they pointed me to their Funan store. Apparently there was a shipment hold up and there was no stock in Singapore for 2 weeks. My conclusion is that it moves quite fast in Singapore just that no one writes a review. I use it on my timber floors too. Steam vacuum is kinda like mopping with the extra heat so I don't see why not. Just watch out when you press the steam trigger, it comes out really hot and fast. I also make sure I'm moving the nozzle along the floor when I engage the steam, so the heat is not concentrated on one spot. Suction power is phenomenal. It's rated stronger than anything Karcher has. I've only had this vacuum for a month plus so no need to change the HEPA yet. I may have to in the future, not sure. Please update with PHOTOS!!
  7. Nice place you have there. $1900 sounds about right. I think we paid $2000 for ours.
  8. Yeah I'm with you on that May! It's funny how the government is saying our space ratio per person in the flats is increasing when the kitchens are disappearing.
  9. I need to say something here. I was just at my friend's new 3rm condo apt yesterday. It was a really beautiful place, nice greenery/facilities/pool. Their rooms were all quite nice and big too but I was shocked at how small kitchens are these days. It got me thinking.. how will we ever be able to upgrade in the future to a similar sized condo, in the same area. Looks like we may stay here longer than we think! Thank you potatoes. The kitchen is the heart of our house and I love cooking in it!
  10. Yup this one of a few deviations from the original plan. Although there are design fluctuations, the quality/workmanship is really good so to get them to rebuild it would not only be a waste but we also wouldn't know if the new carpentry will be as good. And as our ID is a personal friend, we didn't want to create too much problems and settled with a compensation. If I were in your position and saw the shoddy work you received I would also ask for no less and an overhaul.
  11. Hi IPineapple, I tried asking around this forum about the same vacuum cleaner awhile back but didn't get any response. Well, because of my obsessive need to clean the house I ended up purchasing it about a month back. I forgot how much I paid for it.. EJ gave me the best price and I quoted it to Harvey Norman who allowed me to pay with a credit card, can't go wrong that way. It is really good. I like that the floor becomes really hot and squeaky clean after just one pass. It comes with a whole lot of attachments where you can clean just about every surface, my favourite is the squeegee for the glass - you can steam the glass and vacuum up the condensed water while pulling the squeegee through! Glass becomes as good as new! It's really good if you have carpets like me. There are a few negatives to this vacuum cleaner though. - It is really heavy so make sure you store it on the floor. - the many attachments will keep you entertained for about 2 uses... I found it a hassle to change the attachments for each surface. Will only use it during 'spring cleaning'. - A lot of storage space is needed for the attachments. - I think it uses a lot of electricity, like the water heater because of how fast it produces steam. I think it's main function is to replace your sweeping and mopping. So you need to see what your needs are in the house and your personal cleaning style. Go to check it out at major retail outlet for a demo and you see what it can do and know if it will suit your cleaning style.
  12. We're planning to live here for awhile. I know that what a lot of people say.. haha.. but in all our space planning we were considering the future with kids and all. Really hope we don't have to move in the next 6-8 years, partly because this process was quite tiring and we're also so happy with it now.
  13. Hi MamaO, I've seen it done both ways and we intentionally requested the eubiq power strip to be on the counter top. I thought if we didn't have anything else on the wall it might look a little out of place there.. If I had cabinets on top I'd probably have chosen it to be on the wall. The best thing about Eubiq is when you have nothing plugged in it looks really neat/sleek. If you're planning to have stuff plugged in permanent then I'd suggest the old school route as the eubiq isn't much value add that way.
  14. Thanks May and Casa. Yeah I'm just not sure of the differnce between normal solid surface and Hi-macs. So thank you for explaining May. Silestone was an option and we really wanted it. But our kitchen has 32 feet of counter top... That would cost $4k more!! May be in our next house la. haha.
  15. Great choice of furniture! Can't wait to see it all in place.
  16. Cutting it into half sounds like a plan! I'm definitely going to try it when I've finished my current batch of cheap carrefour tablets. Just like you I use the shortest cycle (about 33min) and it even gets the brown burnt-in stains off the pots and pans! Dishes comes out too hot too touch so I'll leave them for a couple of mins before I store them. Only down side to my machine is if I put the bowl in as closely as the plates they don't get washed too well. So when guests comes I only give them plates. Which is way better/cheaper then using the disposable plates. I worked out the cost of using the machine with the electricity and tabs, and it comes out to under $0.50 per wash! Love it! Here's my domestic helper!
  17. Hi May, You seem to know a lot about counter tops. I've got another question. Our ID recommended LG Hi-Macs which I learnt from this forum is slightly more expensive then normal solid tops. Is there a justifiable difference, like is it more temperature tolerant or easier to clean? At the moment I'm very careful with hot stuff on the counter and always use the cork mats which can be a bit of a hassle at time(especially when they spill).
  18. I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I'm starting to realise that you can't really trust ID/contractors especially when they outsource the work because they don't have the same level of control over the quality compared to if they did it themselves. I had some issues with my carpentry too. The drawing and actual carpentry was so different and our ID said "He made changes due because of the design, if we want to build to spec hire a contractor not an ID". Made us furious and we also had to change our tone with our ID too. In the end we settled with a discount. Look at the edge of the counter. We didn't want it flushed with the wall so we could put bar stools there.
  19. Have you done this before May? How much does it cost?
  20. A great domestic helper indeed! I've only been using the dishwasher here for a month since I moved in. I chose the cheapest dishwashing tablet from Carrefour ($5 for 32 tabs) and it does it's job but some how the dishes feels different from when I used the "Finish Quantum" sample tabs that came with my dishwasher. Which tabs do you use or recommend? A robot vacuum is the next target for me.
  21. I wish I had a recessed area to purchase. I left a pair of cheapo slippers infront of my gate to use when I need to throw the rubbish.. And it was stolen after only one week!! Sigh. Hey potatoes, I noticed you also have a dishwasher. Any tips to share on its usage? I have one too and I use it 3-4 times a week, mainly when i cook a lot or when guests come. I used to leave my dirty dishes over night in the dishwasher when I was in Australia and turn it on every other day but I'm not sure we can do that here with our humidity...
  22. The blk 34 zhi char stall is still open, I ate there 2 nights ago. They open at 3:30pm daily.
  23. Hey Denimart, any updates on the flooring?
  24. Hi there, Very nice design and use of space. I love the white open kitchen theme too! And I think we have very similar ideas with cooking/baking with an open kitchen, I did it like that when I was a student in Australia an had no problems either. The only thing allowed on our kitchen top is the nespresso machine and the kitchen aid.. both in fire engine red! I'm looking forward to see your carpentry up.
  25. Ah I see. I really envy the big window in your toilet. It will really help if our window was that big after each business.
