  1. Me also thinking of custom make 1 too. Raw solid oak frame with quartz top. If i choose the quartz top from premium range, the top itself will cost more than $1000.
  2. Tell your ID/main contractor, they can construct another side outlet routed the water to the main outlet for you. Mine was done this way.
  3. Part of the main door frame is embedded into your concrete floor for sturdy structure reason, best not to change it cos new door frame cannot be done the same way as the original door frame. In order to change your main door frame, must hack the tiles around the door frame, too much work, something your ID would not dare to do. ID work on commission-based; best dont change ID halfway into your reno cos the next one maybe worst than the first. And most ID has a pride to maintain, if you change him to another ID and if you regret, you want to change back he may not take your job. Roughly can tell your ID is inexperience.
  4. Good luck, you need it. As for me, i only use trusted brand and use their top range (example: Nippon Odourless Easywash).
  5. Hacking itself must complete in 3 days; this 3 days does not include the time (number of days) to get the hacking permit approved and the time needed to clear away the debris. Waterproof of toilet minimum need 2 days to compound to fully dry; trust me you wouldnt want the neighbor below to complaint about leaking and hdb slap you to redo the waterproofing, right?
  6. I totally hate chimney hood, had my fair share of cleaning it for the last 9 years.
  7. So many high powered electrical items, good luck to your monthly electrical bill, easily a few hundred dollars.
  8. 30A induction hob only for condo or landed; hdb cannot support. If i'm not mistaken, your induction hob is the 4 zone type. You can use 2 zone type which use 15A power. You can go for 2 X 2 but not 1 X 4.
  9. Go see today newspaper, the Weekend Life! section of The Straits Times. Learn to be Weekend cooks; very rewarding.
  10. cannot depend on mummy... you or wife must learn to cook too.
  11. That is becos when the hdb build the flat, the WC is the squat type, so the extra thickness house the sewage pipe.
  12. Go buy a Bodum pavina double wall thermo glass and apply the same concept to the internal of your flat. Guaranty no heat. Seriously i dont think you can hang anything on the bamboo pole holder to effective block out the sun.
  13. small home network with less than 5 points no need patch panel. 1 end terminate at faceplate, the other terminate with RJ-45 plug; connect all the RJ-45 plugs, wireless router, network printer, network nas into a 8 ports gigabits switch and you are good to go.
  14. If windows still useable and not spoil in anyway, then dont change. If you really must change then discuss the requirement with your ID, tell them from outside must see blue color window frame; black color window frame when view from inside the house. Ask your ID to quote. You must provide them a sample of the blue color for them to follow. Can also try spray paint to black frame from inside or paste black sticker (bought from art shop).
  15. It will not rot unless you splash water onto the wood and the wood area is constantly wet. Tell the plumber when he is install your kitchen sink to glue the sink to your solid top using oil-based silicon if you are doing top mount, for under mount, put extra oil-based silicon to seal the gap to prevent water leak or sip through. My kitchen cabinet is about 20 feet in length (both side add up), cost me $6000; the quartz counter top is about 16 feet, cost $4000. No backsplash too. Hardware is a combination of Blum and Hettich but no expensive servo-drive. Take care of yourself, dont stress. Come RenoTalk if you need to talk about your reno. Relax lah.
  16. Your kitchen cabinet is using solid plywood with laminates on the exterior and pvc (cheap & lousy) or polyester (costly & good) laminate on the interior. The ikea cabinet will look better due to the exterior is high gloss spray paint. Spray paint is usually done for door, the white base cabinet (carcass) you see in Ikea is completely made of chipboard; thin laminates are applied to all the side. If you want to achieve high gloss effect like Ikea for your custom made kitchen cabinet, you must communicate your requirement to your ID and have them quote you. There are many way to achieve it, using PU high gloss wood paint, using solid core laminates or use high gloss laminates with ABS trimming applied. This way your kitchen cabinet can be as beautiful as those imported kitchen cabinet you often see in magazine. If you choose such high quality kitchen cabinet, then the counter top material you cannot choose polyester/acrylic mix (price about $60 pfr) or even 100% acrylic (like what you see in Ikea; price about $120 pfr), not even granite/marble... you must go for quartz (premium grade; price about $280 pfr), as for the backsplash you can opt to use crystalise glass (price about $12 psf) or even single slab of limestone, custom cut for you (price about $200~400 psf). Of cos the hardware must also use time-tested high quality (Blum or Hettich) hinges, drawer unit (not referring to drawer track), lift up system completely with automated close servo-drive. For a 10 ft top and 15 ft bottom can easily set you back by minimum $20,000.
  17. haha... nevermind lah, think they miss it.
  18. heard from my wifey that Block 16 hawker centre (renovation now) has a ckt stall that has long queue whenever they open for business; not sure are they previously from hill street.
  19. If you are referring to my reno, then i apologise that the friend that helps me with my reno dont undertake hdb flat project, they only do government tenders, landed and condo projects in large scale. Their firm is not ID or contractor but architectural designer and builder; not wise to engage them unless you have lot of $ to burn. They will do hdb flat for people they know (family, personal friends... etc).
  20. I was using a Ariston washer dryer in my previous place for 9 years, then i shifted to a new place, it broke down, i called Mayer Marketing for service, the next day the technician come and it is the same technician from 8.5 years ago, it broke down back then due to dead insect on the motherboard that short out the circuit. My model has discontinued but there are still spare parts available, the parts will be airfreight in. Replacement and repair cost about $400. We decide to retire the old lady. Paid $60 for the technician's service charge and was told can be offset when we purchase a new Ariston washer. Out of the 9 long years, we only use the washer never the dryer so we decided to buy a cheap Samsung washer for $480, very noisy operation comparing to the old Ariston. Will buy back Ariston when the Samsung KO; simply love their fast and efficient service.
  21. Acid wash is done when everything has been completed.
  22. 3m distance... is about wall to wall of my bedroom, i'm using 55".
  23. Now in Bedok South, 35 years old flat, en bloc potential.
