  1. Opps.. I think I misunderstood yr problem.. Forget about partitioning for aircon coolness. If u get a 18K BTU unit for your room, it will be more than enough to cool both the enlarged room. Most of the time, usually u will not be turning on the living and the masterbedroom AC together. So if the living AC is off, then, there is sufficient cooling power to cool 1 bedroom + the enlarged master. Try to get the largest outdoor unit on the market, like Mit 38K. Getting the largest will normally be cheaper than to spend $ on partitioning.
  2. The wire is not an issue. The aircon has 2 copper pipes carrying aircon gas, these pipes are not designed for flexibility. there is also a plastic condensate drain pipe that is easily dislodged.
  3. Aircon cannot swivel due to aircon copper piping cannot twist often. 1 method is to get system 4 and 1 for study and 1 for master. Other method is to place aircon in middle and then put 2 curtain track, one on each side of aircon. then can partition aircon for either side of room. Instead of 2 track can also consider do 1 U track, like those cheap changing room, with the aircon in the middle.
  4. If there is active moisture problem from external wall, and interior u paint oil based sealer, the moisture in the wall will eventually form bubbles. Bubbles also form when the newly constructed wall was painted before allowing it to completely dry out. If it's water based sealer, it will not bubble, but a brown stain will form. External wall moisture problem MUST be addressed from the external side, never allow moisture to enter the wall in the first place. Even if u waterproof the internal wall, moisture will creep towards the path of least resistance, which could be downstairs neighbour wall. Therefore. TC need to address this.
  5. Go Best Denki.. check out the tube/box of the bulbs/tubes. There is a figure known as xx lumens and also lumens/watt. Normal tubes produce ard 53 lumens/watt. Extrabright tubes can hit 72 lumens/watt. T5 can hit 90 lumens/watt. Those philips 3U CFL is ard 55, Tornado is ard 73. Cannot base on "look brighter", as there is factor known as colour rendering index. Human eyes perceive white light as brighter compared to warm white, even though is same output. China brands.. lumen output is low. T5 even though efficiency is high, the watt is low, so is basically the same output as normal tube, but use less energy. In the end, it all depends on your requirements, to be bright or to save energy.
  6. http://www.coolserve.com.sg/htmdocs/produc...ils.asp?id=1573 got many other models to choose from.. go play ard there.
  7. Ikea furniture got 2 grades.. the cheap ones and the high end ones. The cheaper models.. sigh.. cannot make it. shelving will warp, drawers will get stuck etc. The higher ranges are actually quite good quality. It's better to pay for their assembly service hor.
  8. In cold climate countries, ceiling fan is bi-directional. In winter, air is blown down, while in summer, air sucked up. Logic is .. warm air is hugging the ceiling. Therefore, when weather is warm, is better not to use the ceiling fan. Can do a test.. on the aircon.. and then on the ceiling fan. It's cooler if the ceiling fan is not on. Best is to get a table/stand fan that blows air sideways. Find a cool spot to suck air in and extract air to the hot side.
  9. U got HDB approval for 2 compressors?
  10. Put a big TV console or feature wall and block off the window is much less hassle and more satisfying.
  11. 10 small LED bulb for 1 TV console? 7 inch screen? But I thot.. TV console suppose to have a warm glow.. which LED cannot create the same atmosphere. Shouldn't it be T5 tube? So far.. SimLim Tower level 3 is still the cheapest for LED tube.
  12. Wait till he tells u... he wants to see u try having a baby.
  13. change of Aircon Kitchen Cabinet Capentry works - Living rm, MBR Toilet - change of WC, new vanity, fittings Painting Floor polishing - marble & parquet Kitchen cabinet and carpentry may be same person. Kitchen cabinet put in then do the kitchen basin, which sld be same time as plumber come do WC fittings. Sometimes ppl use carpentry to hide the aircon pipes. Floor polishing last as other trade may scratch marble/parquet
  14. Painted walls absorb the smell from fumes from asian cooking. Also harder to clean painted walls compared to walls with smooth surface. Can be tiled, laminate, solid surface or stainless steel backing, as long as easy to wipe and scrub.
  15. Not suppose to paint over stainless steel pipe. Will accerate corosion due to pitting. Easier to polish. The stains are due to foreign particles stuck to the SS through fumes.
  16. I believe more than 4 points need to use an indoor booster. See this link for the approved Booster model. http://www.starhub.com/portal/site/CableTV...000464114acRCRD If dun want to get the booster, wad I did.. was to go to junction box and unplug the wire (unscrew from spliiter) to the rooms that dun have TV installed. As for Maxonline.. this is hardest to troubleshoot. Maxonline got many complaints about DC, as discussed in many local forums. If suspect is wiring issue, the usual suspects is the splitter, either corroded or non approved model. Maxonline also require that from outdoor to pass through only 1 splitter, ie, the modem must connect to living room point. some contractors take shortcut and daisy chain the TV cable among the rooms. SCV will install from the distribution box to each room, rather than lay 1 cable to Rm 1, then from Rm 1 to Rm2, etc.
  17. Visual size does not count. It's the size of the cutout that matters. If the existing hole is already squarish, and the preferred design has big circular edges, then even the countertop also need to change. Hob and hood has zero lead time, so no need to rush this replacement.
  18. I wld just use a scraper to scrape off the stains first. Then need to invesgitate the source of the moisture. If just apply sealer without understanding the source, it will make matters worse cos it will mean the moisture will run elsewhere creating other problems. The sealer I am talking about.. is meant as a stone sealer, usually for the underside of marble or granite. Is clear solution so if painted over tiles.. will not be obvious. http://www.quicseal.com/www%20-%20proposal...ve%20system.htm Check out Quicseal 117 or similar. Usually those shops that sell sand/brick also sell such products. Put it this way.. sealer on front of tile is not an acceptable building solution. This is a quick and dirty method to solve a problem cheaply. If wanna really solve it properly, need to rehack and apply sealer between screed and tile.
  19. Such stains are associated with the calcium from the grout used to fill gaps between the tiles. It commonly occurs at granite feature wall. The cause of such stains is that there is moisture behind and is slowly seeping out through the grout. Unless the source of the moisture is resolved, this will always occur. Granite is porous material, and usually outdoor feature wall, there is always a moisture problem. Need to solve the moisture issue. If it's moisture from the front, apply sealer to the tiles. If is moisture from behind, or from the top, or from the foor.. then.. repaint, waterproof etc. This is calcium byproduct.. which only acid + scrapper can remove.
  20. Sounds like your room is the typical hotel room setup where there is a narrow passageway before it opens up to the squarish room. Placing the AC above the door will not be good idea, as when u lie on the bed, the AC remote cannot aim at the AC. Normally, is to lower the ceiling at the passageway, and where the passageway opens up to the room, there is a vertical wall( false beam ) to mount the AC.
  21. There are clear sealant, but sealant results in a low sheen finish. Whether that is an acceptable cement screed finish is highly subjective. Some ppl like the porous look. Normally, contractor do no suggest or do such things on own initiative, cos owner highly opinionated.
  22. Poly Art Natural Marble Furniture somewhere along Changi Road. Search online yellow pages, or see their ads in ST occasionally. Got many sizes, and material quality... and shd be within yr budget.
  23. I am using those IKEA raw wood shelving in raw form. Dust is a big issue, and over time, the dust will set in making the wood turn darker shade. As for those raw wood exposed to occasional rain splash, like in balcony, the legs will tend to have wood rot. The SOP is to apply wood preservative to act as a water repellent.
  24. Holes are easily made invisible by wall putty, scraper, sandpaper, wall sealer, paint and sweat. Holes do not result in wld be buyers making offers -$5K below value.
