Hi Mabaricow, thanks alot! Haha guess there's alot of ppl who actually take the effort to make their home as beautiful as possible. I have a lot of frens telling me they just let the ID handle everything. Even like selection of tiles, they just let the ID bring them and show them some selection and get it done with quickly. Alot of them ask me y i go thru so much of hassle. Haha only ppl like u n me will understand

Hi BeBeCc, I was wondering what abt the fridge area. Wouldn't it be exposed and ugly? Cos the fridge wont cover the entire area exactly rite and there will be some gaps rite?

Tile Selection continued The place was closing for the day already and we were still not done yet aft being there for 5hrs . Super exhausted, we just collected the samples & went home to decide which tile it shall be. We returned back the next day early to reselect the tiles as we were not satisfied with any of the chosen ones. This time we took our time to carefully decide what we really liked. These were more or less the confirmed ones: Common bathroom shower area wall & the white tile for rest of the wall MBR wall (We saw this in their showflat and immediately loved it!) The patterned tile is not chosen as it costs $30++ per tile Common bathroom in between the vanity top & mirror I didn't take pics for the rest of the tiles as i was sian of taking my phone in and out of my pocket the whole day. We left the place abt 1hr before they closed. Improvement

Has anyone did their kitchen without laying the wall tiles on the cabinet side which covers almost the whole area? My contractor said not enough tiles to cover that area so he suggested just do cement screed and do the cabinets over it. I'm worried whether it will affect in anyway like leakage or water seeping and also it might look ugly.

Hi poem, i'm also doing my renovation currently so would like to share my experience so far with u. I went to Balestier with my fiancee a couple of times, up and down almost all the shops. The prices there are not the cheapest as compared with Jalan Besar and Geylang but they have gd selections. I took down prices from alot of shops for the same items (Model, brand) as close as possible and compared them. And finally we got the best quote from this shop in Jalan Besar, GR Link Marketing. He has bathroom accessories and other stuffs. The price difference was not a couple of dollars but a few hundreds. The uncle was a very nice and sincere man also. He even told us not to get the items from his shop first and compare it with the rest. But we didnt get the items straight away since our ID (We didnt engage him in the end) had told us there's a shop he always brings his customers and can get gd price. So we thot we would just give it try. When we did the comparison of the total quote with GR Link, to our surprise the diff was about $2k We told our ID that we had been to another shop and the price was much lesser by $2k and he spoke to the salesman separately. Awhile later, the salesman came back saying that he will match the price with the other shop. So u can see for yourself whether its being marked up. So we finally decided that we will get our own accessories from GR Link instead. But you have to take note that this is just for bathroom and kitchen accessories. If u want to get ur own items, then u got to go ard many places to do a comparison which is super tiring.

I and my fiancee decided to just renovate the toilets and kitchen though i had wanted to do up the entire house. With wedding coming up in a month's time we can't afford a major overhaul of the house. We went to many interior designers for quotations and to see the showflats. Most of them quoted ard the same but it was exceeding our budget. I had thought of engaging contractors but we didn't have much time before we needed the house and i didn't have enough time to research also. We were kinda exhausted and confused aft the eighth quotation. Then, Patrick from 3D Innovative Design came over to our place one day. Aft going thru the quotation and reno details with him, we decided to engage him as we kinda 'clicked'. He also understood the idea i was trying to put across for my toilets and kitchen. We even added a full height built shoe cabinet.

Hi everybody! Okay like the most of you, i have been reading the blogs here for sometime now. So before i go ahead and start on my reno journey, i would like to say a few words first. I was looking ard the net to get some info and ideas on renovation when i bumped into RenoTalk. Initially i was thinking why these ppl are taking so much of trouble & time to pen down and post details of their renovation. I decided that i'm just gonna get whatever information i need and carry on. As i continued to read the blogs and the other areas in the forum, i started to gain alot of knowledge, ideas and information on not only reno but in many other areas as well. You guys have helped me tremendously and i need to do my part in contributing as well. And so to cut the long story short, i would like to say a very big THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed here in one way or another. So here i am, with my own share of trouble and difficulties before getting my flat on 09/03/12. Here is my floorplan:

Anyone has any idea roughly how much will it cost to do the below, 1) Grind/scrap off the affected paint on the ceiling til the concrete surface; 2) Paint a thin layer of approved base sealer paint and leave it to dry; 3) Apply two coats of emulsion paint to match the existing colour. I was quoted $380 by a contractor. Is it reasonable?
