  1. Hi pinkyceline, The laminate has been holding up quite well so far with mopping every other day. Just make sure your mop is not dripping wet. We use the 3M Scotch Brite microfibre mop which can be taken out for washing easily.
  2. Hi Charm, Our old flooring is terrazzo. It is very hard and quite costly to hack. The laminates were laid on top of the old flooring without hacking. Usually you don't have to hack the floor to lay laminates. Later on, you can still remove the laminate should you wish to get back to your old flooring. HTHs
  3. updated pics of our house after the brick wall is finished with white paint. Very happy with the final result! This was taken sometime ago after CNY spring cleaning.
  4. Hi fal681, The laminate for our kitchen top is Piano White. We use it for our shoe cabinet as well. After a year plus, the color still looks very nice and like new. The price for our kitchen is $110/ft long. It is done by our main contractor as well. I have posted his contact in the older post. All the best for your reno.
  5. We ordered it from a door contractor advertised in ST. His name is Joseph, contact no 97357380. Company name: Great Star Interior. - Bifold door with bottom track: $138 - Bifold door with top track: $200 - Rubbish chute: $150 We opted for the top track as it requires less maintenance, and from my research it is more durable than the bottom track as well. My contractor quoted $300 for a top track door. So we saved $100 x 2 = $200 for the 2 toilet doors. The 2 panel doors were not included in their general catalogue but I asked if he could do it, and he said yes. I believe any bi-fold door contractors should be able to provide this design as well Hope it helps!
  6. Brick wall has been completed. Will paint it in white this weekend!! Setting up our Christmas tree, just bought yesterday at $60. Supper happy Will be shopping for ornaments at IKEA soon.
  7. Total from main contractor (Chng Poh Guan): $9,586 Spray paint 2 toilets full height (Faith Coat): $1,500 Instal laminate flooring for living room and 2 bedrooms + make goods 2 bedroom doors and main door (Krono Original): $2,246 Install Mitsubishi system 2 inverter aircon + 5 year extended warranty (Gain City): $2,788 Install toilet bi-fold doors with top track at 2 toilets: $400 Install wrought iron gate (Ho Ho Engineering): $390 TOTAL $16,910
  8. Since many of you have asked, I attached my quotation here for your easy reference.
  9. We finished the whole brick wall last weekends. Yay!!!!!!! Only need to fill in the gap between the bricks and paint over, and we are good for the holiday. Super excited
  10. Hi natural9, Yes we installed laminate floor for the whole living room + 2 bedrooms, except kitchen. The laminate contractor will need to hack away the skirting at the side of the wall to install the wood skirting (especially since our original floor is terrazzo, the original skirting is curve and not straight). Cost wise, laminate floor is about half price of tiling. And we love the cozy feeling of the laminate floor. We can lie on the floor directly, not too cold nor too hot. Hope it helps and all the best with your reno process
  11. After much delay, finally the DIY brick wall has been started We used 2 types of glue: Maxbond & Builder... glues. We prefer the later one as it dries faster, so no need to hold the tiles and wait for it to be dried. But you have to be fast though =) Our progress so far... We could not find the wood spacer to put in the gaps, hence used some rolled paper from magazine. It works well too! Hopefully we can finish it next weekend. Will post the updates then
  12. Yup, price does not include installation. I got my contractor to install the fan It is very quiet. I didn't notice any noise at all at low speed during night.
  13. Hi Mrs Loo, I find the workmanship of the tiler is acceptable. As we only redid the floor tiles, and ours are very simple/plain designs, I can't really comment on whether the tiler knew how to lay in such a way the wall and floor blends well. Our wall tiles are spray painted.
  14. For Krono Original, they have a few different ranges if I remember correctly. Ours was quoted at $4.5/psf initially but I managed to bargain until $3.5/psf But they charged a 10% wastage which I didn't notice when placing the deposit (others use only 5% to calculate wastage). Also trimming of doors are not included. I have another contact who provide Krono Swiss. He does not have a showroom or salepersons as he only supplies to contractors. His quote is the $1700 for whole house (1 living room, 2 bedrooms, 1 store room) including trimming of doors. I didn't choose him in the end although the price is much cheaper as cannot find any design I like. They only carry around 10-12 designs at times. Really glad we spent a bit more but totally satisfied with our choice. At the end, you are looking at your floor everything. Must choose something that makes you feel happy
  15. Hi Nexer, I am just posting Mr Lee's contact here so that others might find it useful as well. Hope you don't mind. Please PM me your email and I will forward our reno quote to you. Mr Lee (Inspiration ID/Chng Poh Guan Renovation): 92990344 Yes laminate flooring is much cheaper than homo tiles. That's why we chose it in the first place due to budget constrain. I think it would depend on how long you intend to stay in this house. Are you planning to stay there for 5 years, 10 years or more? If the answer is 10 years or more, homo tiles might be a better investment although it is rather costly to start with.
  16. Hi Nivle, Our toilet is so small that I can hardly find any place to take photos of the full view. Hence these are photos taken from 2 different angles. Please also pardon the mess Our toilet bi-fold door. Really like this simple design. Initially we planned to do tempered glass swing door but due to limited space we have to switch to bi-fold instead. I really dislike the common 4 panel bi-fold doors, hence specially requested for this 2 panel design. Happy with the end result
  17. Yes the light is very bright. It has 2 of the energy saving tubes inside. Total 40W. The wind is quite strong even if using at the slowest mode. We feel it is stronger than we would like as our bedroom is very small. We bought it at $260 including lights and remote control. The lights and remote control are optional. We bought it from a small shop opposite City Plaza. The address is Urban Lighting & Electrical , 511 Guillemard Road, #01-24, Grandlink Square. Singapore 399849. We bought all our lightings from this shop. We have done some research on pricing before deciding on this one. The owner is nice and friendly. He quoted us the lowest price among all shop the we visited for most of the items. Hence we decided to get everything from him. Very good after sales service. His shop is quite small and messy and does not have many things though. But the basic items such as downlights, T5, track lights, etc are available. I saw some contractors also went there to buy lightings
  18. Hi Nexer, The laminate we used is Krono Original. It is from a different company than Krono Swiss. Krono Original is Made in Germany while Krono Swiss is Made in Switzerland. I was quoted $1700 for Krono Swiss for 3 rooms HDB plus the store room. However, I didn't like the limited designs they've got. I feel Knoro Original offers more natural prints and finishing (the finishing feels rather real as compared to other brands). Mine is the matte finish, which feels like raw wood. For my flooring, I was quoted at $3.5 per sqf, AC4, 8mm. Our total reno cost is around 15K. Are you planning to use a contractor or ID? If contractor, I would strongly recommend Mr Lee from Chng Poh Guan. I have just started my new job, hence did not have a lot of time to monitor the reno. Everything was communicated through Mr Lee. I am a very fussy and flicker-minded person. I kept requesting to change here and there but he is very patient and always fulfill (if not exceeded) all my expectations. We can't really ask for more. Without him, our reno would not be as fun and fuss-free Happy planning!!
  19. Finally got around to take photos of our place 1.5 months after moving in. We hope to start with the DIY brick wall on this empty wall tomorrow. Will update with the progress
  20. Things bought so far. We are totally broke now. Instant noodle for whole month Aerogaz Built in Microwave AZ-230GBSS Bosch Built in Oven HBN331E2J Hitachi Fridge R-SG37BPS Amasco 48" Fresh 2 in White color for MBR
  21. 'Kai Men' ceremony last weekend!
  22. Citygas dryer mounted a little high due to our top load washer. We did a test run yesterday. The dryer actually vibrates a lot especially at the start. Anyway to prevent the vibration?
  23. The carpenter installing kitchen cabinet. They are very meticulous and hard working. We opted to remove the kitchen top cabinet and install a new set since the old cabinet does not have space to install the hood. In addition, the previous tenants did heavy cooking and oil was dripping down from the cabinet. Very dirty. Another high cabinet is also built to house the built in microwave and oven. The bottom cabinet and solid surface remain as we do not have budget for those. Solid surface is slightly yellowish and has some stains and scratches. Anyone know how to polish them?
  24. We engaged Krono Original staffs to lay the laminate for us since our contractor only provides the Krono Swiss range. Krono Swiss is more economical but the designs are rather limited and I could not find any design I like. In the end, we signed up with Krono Original during the Expo fair. I'm quite happy with the end result as the print does look like untreated raw wood. Only downside is the finishing can attract dust easily due to its matte surface. Have to clean very frequently, otherwise your feet will have a dusty feeling. Hope you understand what I'm trying to say
  25. Hi Valerie, I forgot how many years the spray paint company claimed it could last, but definitely more than one year. Let's see how it will turn out. Hopefully don't have to re-do too soon
