Recommended Distance Between Cooker Hob And Hood
ne0matr1x replied to ne0matr1x's topic in Carpentry Works
Hi taichipanda, thanks for the reply. I've just check with the spec guy from EF themselves. He says the recommended height for my particular model is between 650mm - 750mm. Due to safety measure, any lower there might be hazards of heat on the hood and plastic components (eg the vent fans and filter pads etc.) and might caught fire. Especially for gas hob, higher installation is preferred. Anyone else have experience with this? -
Hi fellow forummers, Let me refreshed this old topic. I bought a slim type hood from EF. Model number: EFCH 9202 HM SS http://www.ef.com.sg/Products.aspx?catid=2 My ID recommended the height between the bottom kitchen cabinet and top cabinet at 600mm. This looks fine to at first. However problems arrives when my carpentry is up and when I put the hood into the slot, I feels too low and will hit my head. My wife and I was not happy with the hood height. Upon checking with our friends and relative houses, we found out that their hoods is installed at about 700mm - 740mm. Now if I want to change the height of the cabinet and hood, the carpenter says that they will have to charge me. If I do not pay, the carpenter will not go ahead with my renovation works. Is there anyway to argue this case? Is there a recommended distance between the hood and hob? I'm also using a gas hob. Any solution to this? Thanks

Looking for a system to hang my clothes easily so that I dont have to use the prong. Thanks! -
Cheapest And Widest Rage Electrical Switched Outlet
ne0matr1x replied to ne0matr1x's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Thanks Rick, yup I've heard of this company before. Will go down later during lunch to take a look. Are their prices competitive? -
Hi there, I'm doing a major reno including wiring to my house. Unfortunately the switches that my contractor provide is not to my liking and he is unable to provide me with another range. I'm thinking of replacing all the switches and wall socket outlets to another premium range. Anyone knows any shops or factory outlets that have a wide range and also very good price for these items? Million Thanks!

Another question to ask. My whole house is doing plaster to make smooth finishing and there are also areas of false walls and cornices and my kitchen walls have the wall tiles removed and now with cement screet. Im planning to paint the whole house including the kitchen walls. What is the ideal base of 1st layer coat before final finishing coat? Is it sealer or matex? I also heard that after using sealer, its very hard to apply colours to the wall as the sealer cause the wall to be "water-proof". Anyone care to enlighten?

Hi matrix, I agree. I heard my contractor say that some IDs can give you odour-less or all-in-one paints, but they will give the "chiong" type of paints too. He says painters can have 1000 and 1 ways to "trick" you into believing its what you are paying for. So one way to authenticate is he will take the actual picture of the cans before painter start painting. But even this, the painter can put the "chiong" paint into "original" tins I guess. Is that true?

Hi guys, thanks for the advise. Just got some info from my contractor. My 5 + 1 package is 5 colours from the Nippon Vinilex 5000 series plus white (only Matex) for the ceilings) Is 5000 series enough? Or shoud I insist for other ranges such as washable or 3-in-1? I heard 3-in-1 very hard to touch up, will have dark patches if touch up including the light colours also.
-
I am choosing colours now for my house. My contractor says I can get 5 + 1 colours. 5 being any colours in the normal Nippon catalog and +1 is actually ceiling white (Matex). I wanted my walls to be pure white too, but was told by him that for pure white, only Matex have. If I want those 3 in 1 kind they don't have pure white but instead shades of white. Is that true?

Hi all, Im currently doing major reno on my house and installing those slim LED panels whole house. I've went to an LED contractor and visited one of his site that was fitted with the LEDs. I must say, I'm impressed. These slim LED panels are different as the LEDs are at the edge and the center are diffuser (just like those super thin LED V. Thats why they can be thin. Light diffusion is also very wide, prob around 175 deg? Energy saving wise, u definately save more than PL as LED wattage is low plus they still using step down converter. Its like using those battery type lights! The contractor showed me before at his job site- he switched on all the lights in the house and asked me to look at the house meter. It is barely moving! Heat wise, it produced much less heat. As for the false ceiling, since the panel is so thin and the power supply also small, its possible to keep the ceiling to only about 3 inches instead of the normal 5-6 inches. This will give your living room more height also. Hope this helps.

So may I know the various contractors you use? I'm thinking of going solo too. Thanks

Hi RenoTalk Forummers, I've been reading a few threads here and there about renovations, but realised a lot of info is scattered. As there are so many posts and I'm very busy, I'm posting here to get contacts for DIRECT CONTRACTORS to do up my place. Direct contractors I'll need: 1. Hacking floors/walls/kitchen cabinets 2. Wet works 3. Plastering and cement screeting 4. Carpentry 5. System wardrobe 6. Windows, grille, sliding doors, main gate, bi-fold door (I did have a good contact for this from the forum) 7. Electrical 8. Painting After staying in my resale flat for 2 years(in its original condition and many things falling apart)and painstakingly saving up money for renovations work, I realised the price for what I want is over budget (I've been to more then 10 ID/contractors). Apart from the window quote, I'm quite fed up with getting quotes from ID or those who claim they are direct contractors. They over quote some items so high, eg. They quote me all my windows and grille for about 3.5K but when I ask direct contractor, it was only 2.5K. That's like 1k difference! I don't really need ID as I can do my own, but I do need expert opinion in terms of materials selections etc, which I think the contractors can do it also. I believe there is still a way to get renovations done(with good service, quality and workmanship)but still keep within the tight budget, hence I'm posting here for appeal to get contacts for good and honest contractors. Many Thanks!

May I know which contractor or ID you use finally?

Homeway Design
ne0matr1x replied to lin_stapler's topic in Renovation Contractors, Interior Designers & Suppliers Reviews
Btw to be clear, this is the Homeway at Joo Chiat (ground floor) And after the "junior" guy cannot handle me, the senior guy's card states he's from lifestyle i.D. Is Homeway and lifestyle i.D from same company? -
Anybody had experience with love home before?

Homeway Design

I just went yesterday. Here us my feedback. -When I arrive at the shop, a few of the ID guys were smoking with their kakis in the shop and relaxing one corner; v unprofessional. How can they smoke in the shop???? - Talk to one of them, a Malay guy wearing specs and a hat. His com skills very lousy but the worst things is almost half of my request or questions I ask him, he can't even answer or give a satisfying answer. Eg, the package comes with free 10 feet granite top for kitchen, so naturally I wanna know how much kitchen space will I need or top up. I request him to measure it frm the scale dwg that I've brought for him. He don't even know! Then I ask him how do you measure and give costing to client? He don't know!!! What kind if ID is this???? A very basic thing like this also don't know? - From my observation, their Design and those they publish in their magazine are so so or even very outdated design. They can't even suggest good ideas for my interior. In the end I was the o e giving input and explanjng to them about certain details. It's as if I'm serving them! - After a few questions to probe his intelligence, he could not take it and answer them and pass me to another more senior guy. He left the shop and smoke outside while chit chatting with his kakis. Again, professionalism? - The new more senior guy was arrogant and served me rudely. He was slightly more intelligent that the 1st but could still not understand why I wanna request certain stuff. Probably due to their old design taste I guess. Gosh, if your potential client request to do something, you say okay or try to find out. Not argue with them and said it cannot be done. Shows they won't go the extra mile for you. - I still tried to keep calm and ask him when he can give me the quotation. (I was rushing to leave, as my wife was so piss off that she stormed out of the shop minutes ago.) The guy told me "now I can give". So I have to repeat all that I want again to him and he start punching numbers to calculate cost but he did not even do any measurement in my plan to determine dimensions. Again, professionalism? - He came out with a ridiculously low quote, but of course I did not believe him as he did a very "rough" calculation. My advise is, unless you want lousy, unprofessional service with attitude with super outdated designs with outdated or no ideas...... DON'T GO! Don't even bother to ask for quotation, wasting your time. Unless you guys want to see how lousy their knowledge of ID is.
