I thought the roller garage ones are metallic. There are a few in the yellow pages when I inquired. Finally decided against it because I thought the whole place would be very stuffy when rolled down. More for security reasons when you travel overseas frequently, IMHO. -

No. I don't check daily... stopped after we bought our EM...but was just so shocked and curious about the $510k price tag for Hougang EM. Blossom0501 should be really happy. Seems like the asking prices for EMs have just rocketed...but wonder if there are actually any takers and wonder where these people move to after they sell? -

Yah, checked the papers this morning...quite a few EMs in Hougang advertising at $460-$500! Less than a year ago, there were so many letting go at $330-$340... and I thought opposition ward that's why nobody wants! -

$510k That's next to the block a friend sold her EM for $390k in 1999. Good location, quiet yet near amenities. -

Always thought that a roof at the balcony makes the living room very dark and stuffy. Thought that the poly carbon roofs would solve the problem. Didn't know they are banned by HDB. -
carousal. Ikea's powder coated ones cost only $65

Everyone's Favourite Simple, Tasty Recipes :)

Hey, Applefreak, tried your dish again, followed the 15 min stewing time exactly ...the bitter gourd was just the right texture this time..yummy salty-bitter, but the ribs were still tough despite marinating overnight.... Any tricks to soften it or perhaps I bought the wrong type of ribs? -
According to the newspapers, MOM caught the maid first, then looked through her address book for the names of her employers and their telephone numbers. That was how the New Zealander expatriate was hauled up to court.
-
zirhk3355 It's illegal. Some maids have been caught by MOM and repatriated and both the "work permit" employers and actual employers got fined substantially. Came out in the newspapers a couple years back. A New Zealander expatriate was heavily fined - five digits fine. Now and then, MOM launches a sting operation... There are quite a few, I agree, but best not to advertise so openly... Local maids tend not to be so hardworking...they're usually local aunties hoping to get extra cash...

Sigh...they still climb elsewhere: supermarkets checkout counters, bus interchange railings... still trying to instil in them a sense of place and occasion. E.g. climbing in playground = achievement; climbing in MRT trains, supermarket checkout counters = shameful misbehaviour... They tend to forget...looks similar to them, a pole is a pole - whether on a train or playground...am aging into a nag, a broken recorder with a stern face -

Hi, mine's in Serangoon, (rectangle balcony), 148 sqm. No grilles at the balcony either...think it spoils the view...but with two young kids, have to keep emphasizing the dangers of climbing... -
Property Market Boom Bubble?
Homeowner replied to icer's topic in Landed & Condo Private Properties Renovation Discussion
My sympathy, icer. A friend of mine is looking for a hdb flat at CCK/BP/BB area and said that a homeowner at BB was asking for a $150k COV while homeowners at CCK/BP are asking for $45-55k COV. Very ridiculous, right? It's not even central, TP or Bishan. I told her immediately not to give in to such ridiculous asking prices and that these people may not be genuine sellers, just trying their luck for an easy cash rich buyer. But, when I went home and calculated the cost of an EM say, at Yew Tee, valuation $330k-$340k+ $50k COV = $380k=$390k, it's still a good 30% cheaper than the peak at $530k in 1998. But, it has climbed up 15% from 2005/6 when people bought at valuation at about $330k. At $380k, an EM is still $200k cheaper than say, an EC in the same area which is now at about $530k-550k. So, was I wrong to advise her not to buy? Perhaps it is the speed the property prices rose that upset people.... -

Ic. So, if the socket/switch is okay, the meter moves slowly...and if the socket/switch is faulty, the meter runs like crazy, right? Ok, I'll go and try... -

Thanks for sharing. But, what happens to the meter if the socket/switch is okay and faulty? -

What do you do and look out for? So far our electrical bill is reasonable...but then, we've only stayed for 2 months and 1 month is an estimation. -

IC. That's good. Mine was excluded. -
Dunno leh...5-6 years only, if you can tahan their neo classical style, you can save on renovations 'else to tear down all these in good condition, product of $100 reno, seem a bit wasteful. But, your taste - zen is miles away from neo classical leh... There was another forumer whose original condition was really very nice, country style...they redid the whole place modern style. Fortunately, they had great taste and the renovated flat turned out very well, or else people would be scratching their heads at the change.

Huh? Women are a natural?? I think it's because we're just more fussy.

Wow. The previous owner has very unique tastes. A really pity about the jacuzzi though . But, funny, the tiles don't look very dark on the pictures...they seem quite light. You must be the third owner right? When was it last renovated? The living room floor looks like marble?

I must be a cynic 'cos I think that when you finally become a MIL, your heart will be very pained if you see your dearest son doing a lot of housework, more than your DIL. I have honestly never met a MIL has very nice things to say about her DIL. At best, they keep quiet.

Dunno leh...I used to find them really beautiful 'cos so much effort went into making them esp. the mother-of-pearl inlay ones. But, now I find them a bit too "loud" for me.
