  1. Thanks for your encouragement, rummi. Called Citigas yesterday and the person confirmed no source pipe for my block. So, I guess this is it. The FINAL design. Contractor called to confirm the aluminium handle model and size and stainless steel dish rack size ($28 only for 3 piece 760mm!!! )...so I guess they are probably starting on the carpentry today.
  2. Nice ambience lights at the side and below. Heheh. Your full moon reminds me of Harry Potter's ex-werewolf teacher, whathisname
  3. Hi, applefreak. Was looking at your kitchen design...just some thoughts to share, imho: dunno whether you might prefer to shift the fridge with the tall cabinet so that the work triangle (fridge, sink, hob) is smaller. did you intend to install an oven in the tall cabinet? you might want to consider installing an induction hob (safer 'cos only stainless steel pots will get hot, but it consumes higher electricity) as your hob appear to exposed on three sides (or are you building some kind of wall around the hob?). if you put the hob this way, do you have to install an island hood? 'cos I think most hoods need to be installed against the wall. Other thoughts for your elderly parents: dunno whether you can/ want to make provisons for wheelchair e.g. ramp instead of kerb, wider toilet entrance, space below the sink so that the wheel chair fits under space for stool/seat in the shower nightlights? antislip mats for bathrooms Here's a website that may be helpful: www.kitchens.com
  4. Really good deal you have there. Wishing you all the best!
  5. Really nice. Has Kelvin's sleek finishing touch and ambience lights. All his flats - yours, Cokelight, Diva79 - look very polished. Congrats.
  6. Very nice WIW. Good to have a casement door. Is that another door at the end of the WIW or a feature wall?
  7. MaCe, did you buy yours direct from HDB? How come there's a rectification period?
  8. You misunderstood me. The IKEA ones come WITH clips. Thanks. So far so good.
  9. Yah. The contractor does exhibtion works too; hence, his trademark red carpet treatment to protect the floor from dust and force. Sigh. Just found out yesterday at HDB hub that we can't apply for Citigas 'cos there's no source gas pipe in the block...kena conned by dunno which Citigas telephone operator 2 months back ...so now, we've to change our beautiful symmetrical kitchen design to an asymmetrical one in order to provide a 500mm space for the gas cylinder. So sad... There's a need to try to standardize some of the door sizes so that the kitchen doesn't look too messy with doors of many different widths. Hence, I've to hide the 2 big drawers as pullouts inside two 500mm doors (to match the gas cylinder's 500mm door). For same reason, the horizontal wall cabinets has to make way for vertical ones. The resulting left side of the L. The original symmetrical design not shown 'cos already deleted. The carousal, already bought from Ikea, has to go to the right side of the L-shape...that requires 600mm...so now my sink can't be symmetrically in the middle of two 450mm cabinets. The carousal side of the sink has to be 600mm and the other, 300mm. The resulting right side of the L. The original design with the sink symmetrically in the middle not shown.
  10. Thanks, HiroX. Reno. started yesterday. Red carpets laid to protect the floor. Items to be reused, e.g. glass shelves wrapped neatly in newspapers and storage heater, were put carefully aside. Kitchen cabinets were dismantled and disposed. Water taps relocated for reno. use. Yesterday, we also gave a copy of the reno. permit and a little note apologising for the noise and dust to our neighbours - left, right, top and below. Hacking starts today.
  11. Lucky you...not just because you stay near mom, but 'cos your mom's willing to cook for you.
  12. Reno starts tomorrow. Here are the BEFORE pictures. The kitchen The kitchen toilet The boys' toilet Our bathroom The flamingo sanctuary we are conserving. No more funds.
  13. Thanks! Yes, looking forward to using my new oven, too!
  14. Must wait or else the rice sticks to the bottom of the pot...then when you try to scrape the rice off, you may scratch the non-stick layer. Realised this only when I read the instructions a few months later.
  15. Thanks to you, storeberry, we got our lights at 20% off at Nan Wah today! Saved abt $78. We got our mirrors at Ikea. $32 for 60cm by 75cm, bevilled edges (slanted 45 degrees at the edges), frameless. The mirror does come with clips to hold the mirror. I think it's $28 for the 60cm by 60cm. I think it's a good deal if you want a simple mirror with no fancy designs on it. Hey, storeberry, my reno. starts tom, too.. Good luck!
  16. Sigh...we paid $20k above valuation too. But, ours is NOTHING like yours. It's 21 year old; we need to revamp the entire kitchen and toilets...we're going to put up with the rest 'cos we don't want to spend too much. But, I'm POSITIVELY drooling over your windows and grilles and wardrobes that are still nice and white inside. Your bathroom look really cheery despite the HDB bifold doors. Maybe it's the colour.
  17. Hi, bubblepearl. Dunno if you believe in fengshui, but in another Renotalk thread, someone said it's not good to put shoe cabinets directly opposite the front door...
  18. Lucky you. The house is already renovated very nicely and thus, you are spared the reno dust, inconvenience and stress! Think your place is also near ten-mile junction and the LRT station, right?
  19. Wow. Lime green kitchen! !! I'm also going for black galaxy countertop. Noticed that you have bravely opted for the Rinnai RB-3si. Was recommended that for saving gas but was too chicken to try out new technology...so decided to go for the tried and tested Rinnai RB-3SS. Please share with us how you find it after you've started cooking. Really interested to know...
  20. Same as mine, Odie. !! Quite happy with it. Remember to turn off and leave the rice inside for abt 10-20 min after it switches from the cook function.
  21. It's not really the dress up part. It's the companionship. Sigh...will try to count my own blessings. At least, the traditional in-laws are very happy...
  22. Two boys already; very tired. If we try for a third and the third is ANOTHER blessed boy?! No guts, and therefore, no glory.
  23. Happy anniversary, HSH21! Read your blog and thought we had some similar experiences: hubby wanted tile BORDERS and LG air-conditioners What's missing is a girl...Heheh..on my side Lucky you!
