  1. Hi Mist & Tinkle, I am going to have a light grey marble looking solid surface, it will be ready by wednesday and will post more pictures to update everyone. For the renovation work, I have engaged a contractor to everything for me but except for the window grilles because my contractor charge me very expensive. As for the design like kitchen cabinet and lighting, I did it personally because contractor's design sense is limited. I have to do sketches, technical drawings and photos to show him in because I cannot afford to do things based on assumption. So far my contractor enjoy working with me and love my home alot because it is very rare in term of my specification. We have learnt quite a bit from each another. Hi HomeOwner, Not to worry...more pics will be posted once I step into the second phase of my home.
  2. Phase 1, renovation, will be completed on this coming friday. So far so good for most of the things except for the flooring....oh gosh, hope it will be well-finished. Phase 2, home fashion runway, is going to commence soon and I will be having some home stylists aka friends to come in. Will be busy doing up the home with prints, artifacts, furnishing, DIYs and others.
  3. Yes it is very sweet and soft looking but I am planning to do something to balance the softness. For the wardrobe, you can refer to my older post for a more detailed picture. It is a sliding door wardrobe so can only show half. Yes it is a 3 blade fan...cannot remember the price and address becozs we bought it long before our reno, its less than 200 and it is from a warehouse opposite of Honda Showroom at Ubi.
  4. Hi Metalman, You have a cool home, rather industrial looking and looks like Metalman's home! But your mess is quite an eyesore which I can forsee that I am going to experience when it is my turn. I like the design of your kitchen but I think your kitchen system takes up quite a lot of space in the kitchen right?
  5. So nice.... Went to take a peek at the renovation yesterday evening and we are so happy and surprised to see more things done up especially the kitchen...the design that I have been visualising in my mind for weeks turns out to be the same exactly, our smiles are from ear to ear! We have a happy kitchen! The lab sink is so nice. Very eager to see the completed kitchen with the water tap and solid surface mounted on this coming week. Our lightings and fan are done but I do need the dimmers to soften the light as the track lights are too bright that they wash out my wall colour. The wardrobe in our MBR is also completed and there is a pull out mirror but I am not sure if we should have a grip to move the sliding door...Mrs Sumobear ska Little Bear is complaining that it kind of difficult to slide as the surface is too smooth to hold on.
  6. I guess it is just a matter of time, either now or later. Having grilles does not mean end of the world for you I guess, you can always slide the grilles to the side. But if you are willing to pay more, I think that there are some special grilles that you can move all to the end to get tge uninhibited view. Normally new home owner will tend be more critical with the things that are installed or placed in the home but everything will become transparent after a while once you move in.
  7. Hi Mist... I just hope that the furnishing we have in mind works with the colours. I think we are quoted less than 2K for the flooring but the cement is overlaying existing tiles, and the coverage is the living room and bedrooms. The funny part is that our contractor and his workers are very puzzled with the flooring as they are unable to visualise what kind of home are we going to have. Hi Joyz, thanks for the encouragement....
  8. The reason why I am going for pastel color is because most of the modern homes are using very commercially-driven kind of colour scheme and pastel colour range is a part which not many people has explored with their home. Probably pastel is something soft but I am going to do something to balance the softness once I get the renovation completed. For the kitchen tiling matter, I actually did full tiling for the kitchen in my current home but I think it is not neccesary as you are unable to see the tiles when the cupboards are fixed. I think it is good to tile areas that will be exposed to water even if it is on the other side of the wall. Lesser tiles means lesser $$$, 1 piece of tile can be a plate of chicken rice for your lunch...so imagine how many packets of "chicken rice" that you are going to paste on your wall? That is what I joked about with my friends...haha As for the colour choice that you have mentioned, I have orange for my current home's kitchen featured wall and it is compliment by white surrounding...love it until today. Not sure which kind of yellow are you refering to but my new home's kitchen is pastel yellow. As for red, it is a very emotional colour because it can represent many different kind of mood and so it all depends on how you pick and match colour for your kitchen. Not so sure about the size of the cabinet? Are you refering to the whole unit? If it is the whole unit, I think it is more than that. Cheers!
  9. Finally I am seeing the woodwork coming in today and intentionally took leave to go over to take a peek. The wardrobe is the master bedroom is almost done and as for the kitchen, I can only see the guys mounting the white wooden boxes to the walls. I am very eager to see what is the final result of my self-proposed kitchen design. Suppose to have a lab sink (aka coffee shop sink) mounted but my contractor told me that they are very scared to do the sink because they have to do an opening to the cupboard surface and my sink is kind of unusual for home use. Cold sweat for them...pheww! Then my walls are giving some problems. Firstly is the painted colours because they varies a bit on different walls but my contractor tried to give me a crappy reason like it is due to the light source, but I managed to shut him off by telling him that colors is part of the nature of work so better not challenge me with it. Then the second problem is kind of critical because there is a spot of watermark appearing on one of the walls in the study room. My wife is going to call the town council tomorrow and hope that they will come soon. Another head throbbing matter will be my floor because after the 2nd round of touch up to my cement finish flooring, I can see some ugly patches. Then the climax moment is when he told me that it is the 1st time for him and his workers to see a home with cement finish floor. So they are inexperience with the final finishes, going to faint man....
  10. Hi mist aka DIYmate, Just wanna pop by and say hi! Cheers
  11. Hmmm...dun seem to be good deal for you other than getting featured and for memory sake.
  12. Hi... So u wrote to the press to get featured? Do u get anything from them after being featured? Very curious...hehe
  13. Hi... I think I had spotted an article featuring on your home in yesterday's Sunday Times...
  14. Hi Homeowner, Well...I can only say that they have just painted the colours that I want to my "canvas", so there will be more to come. hehe... Hi Odie, Thanks for the encouragement...but so far for the renovation, I did most of the things with my guts feeling because there is not much reference on the kind of colour scheme and home concept that I am planning to do.
  15. I just hope that whatever colour had been applied is a right choice. What worries me is my kitchen cabinet as I am the one doing the design and telling the contractor what to do...keeping my fingers crossed
  16. Went to take a peek at our home today morning to check on the renovation status and we saw a few uncles painting our home but I think they have just completed the 1st coat of paint yesterday so the colours are not really the true colours that we have selected. Hopefully the effect will be nicer after a few coats. Living room - Banyan Tree (ICI Master Palette) Master Bedroom - Early Rose (ICI Wash & Wear) Study Room - Timothy Hay (ICI Master Palette)
  17. Hi Air, Haha...I know how you feel when selecting the colours because I have the same situation as you....cannot find a perfect colour in the paint brochure. So in the end I select my colours from the ICI Master Palette which means the customised paint colour.
  18. Hi Luppy, I guess many of us are in the same boat...busy with so many things at the same time. It is indeed stressful to have everything running concurrently but it will be fun and memorable. So relax and be cool... Cheers
  19. Hi imakan, Yah, my renovation is in the In-Progress status. We have a budget constraint so we try to get everything to the minimum if possible. I will say that 80% of my home is renewed with new materials, and the 20% will be the existing old tiles that are buried under my cement screed floor...meaning overlay. I am having a cement screed floor. Just for the renovation itself, I spent about 24K but not sure if there is any additional cost towards the end. My floor area is about 93sqm, corner unit. Is yours the same? As for the colours of my walls..most of the walls are white except for some feature walls will be painted with a colour. For the colours, I have selected the specially mixed colours because I know that I cannot compromise to the given colours in those standard paint colour brochures. My colour scheme is within pastel range. Keep a look out on my updates in my blog.... Cheers
  20. Hi, It will be tough if you want to get ready-made rainbow sticker. But you can try this link http://winkplay.com, I think they customise stickers for you. Or you can walk around bras basah complex to look for those digital printers to print big stickers with the rainbow design for you. Check out the price between Wink and the bras basah complex.
  21. hi AppleFreak, Thanks for the advise...In that case, I think I have to accept the grilles already.
  22. Hi to all, I need some advices urgently, can someone help? The story is that my home's aluminium grilles are completed and the grille contractor is asking for payment already but I realised that there are scratches here and there. Is it a norm to expect fine scratches on the grilles? Dunno whether to release the last payment to him. Someone please advice, thanks...
