  1. wear a yellow construction helmet.....i didn't know cooking is so hazardous....heehee
  2. yuo just have to buy a cheap one at least to cover your newly furnished house. cos the standard fire insurance does not cover much. i was playing around with the online quotation in directasia, and realised that the premium for "personal effects" is pretty high. e.g. a total price with a 20k personal effects coverage is about 80, and the one with 40k is about 120. so as long as you don't store diamods in your house, or have mulitple electronics that cost in excess of 5k each, you can keep your cost low by buying the cheaper option. and anyway, i assume the coverage is based on present fair market value, and not on original purchased price.
  3. how come the news of burglary don't get much coverage on newspaper leh.....didn't know punggol is a high crime area? i thuoght it is areas like the geylang and little india that has high crime rates.
  4. hi ipineapple, i bought my lights from overseas, but it is not from CN/HK, it is from our direct neighbors across the causeway. thus i have no feedback to share. however, a lot of ebay sites serves the US/EUR market, and if you look at their seller ratings, they seem to be doing well. why don't you email them with your questions? ebay "buy-it-now" price usually is at a premuim price, so it does not hurt to ask if the seller can offer you a discount as well, especially if you know there are more than one site selling the same thing. hope this helps.
  5. engineeerd wood and vinyl flooring are also not cheap. almost same price as low/mid grade parquet.
  6. I chose laminate, cos it is the easiest to change in the future. nothing is glued (parquet) or cemented (tiles) to the floor. can't really say laminate is that tough though. during renovations, my contractors created a few fine line scratches, and after moving in, i added a few more as well. but i learn to get use to it. it is the same as scratches on cars. if you are particular about that, it will cost you a bomb to always go touch up the scratch lines or re-spray.
  7. cos punggol has the highest percentage of household earning 9,000 and more a month. according to news yesterday.
  8. try directasia.com my current one is $80/yr from them. not as good as the chartis as chartis gave more "freebie" coverage of other sorts.
  9. ya. 1k only buys the buyer 2 weeks to think about it. if they chose not to exercise, then the 1k is yours.
  10. the fengshui is custom-made to you and your hubby's specification ma......did you ask your FSM to create you a blissful bed location to create many beautiful babies?
  11. cannot go up by so much wan....i think the quotation they gave is "investment-linked"....lol
  12. mine is only 80 a year, for a 40K (renovation) and 30k(personal belongings) coverage.
  13. oh....when FengShui gets involved, cannot save....you HACK AH in order to HUAT AH
  14. good idea.....but i might turn into a chair *****.....hahaha.
  15. just kidding.... anyway, i recall them sending me a phamplet saying there is a gift or discount or voucher, if you sign 3 yrs up front. so enquire about it, so they don't offer upfront to you.
  16. yeah....can i get the "recommend a friend" gift from chartis?
  17. overlay both wall and tabeltop tiles with those 10cmX10cm tiles, and get new doors. this is worth a thought....for only probably for the price of a solidtop.
  18. i think the chartis one covers fire, building, renovation and personal, if i recall correctly. i also bought my own mortage insurance from an external party, instead of using the CPF one. saves me $300 a year. funny right....everyone buys from CPF, so you thought economy of scale saving would kick in.
  19. ya lor....grilles gives you a caged feeling.
  20. i'm using the one from directasia.com. but the chartis one is much better. covers more $$$ and at a lower price.
  21. ya lor.....must share your beautiful place. especially your bedroom.
  22. my one covers. when i bought my insurance (before my reno starts), i even ask them if a fire happens during renovation and will them pay, and the answer was yes.
