I send you a PM with the info you needed.

Your kitchen is looking great. Love the stove/oven standalone. Reminds me of my childhood days where we have something like that.

Makanology has kindly pointed me to your blog of your 'laminate' marble wall for the TV console. Do you mind PMing me the price of it? My reno is more or less complete here http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=58811 Minus the TV feature area which I still use my old one. Thinking of replacing it though.

Hi! I would love to see more pics of your kitchen. I have a 'sort-of' French style reno but it turned out to be more 'bling bling' rather than French chic. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=58811 I have yet to do my TV area and kitchen and I am looking for inspirations. I am not sure whether to go for ultra modern kitchen or a more 'Frenchified' or country style kitchen so I am interested in seeing house owners who did their house the French chic style to see how they deal with their kichen. Btw - congrats in getting the condo at the East side. I think your house must have appreciated by a lot. I know what you mean by being in debt and slave to your job. I am in the same boat too :-(

Thanks for the tip! I check out the blog and it looks nice! My contractor promised that he would keep in mind suitable marble/onyx (hahaha - you have no idea how prohibitively expensive onyx is)for me. He said surprisingly it may not be as expensive as I first thought because marble used for wall cannot be the too thick type. And also, since he has ties with major supply companies and has work in several hotels, he can get some 'leftover' pieces (cough, cough).

He almost 'murdered' me for being so fickle minded. But he did say he wants me to be happy. He did not like my choice saying they are 'very girly' but caved in after I whined at him. -
Hope to see how your remo goes & I may learn a thing or two. My reno turned out to be more 'bling bling' than French. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=58811 I still have yet to do my kitchen so I am hoping to see more examples.

It is important to get what tiles you like because you are going to be stuck with it. I changed my mind 3 times AFTER the tiles arrived at my place. -

So sorry to hear about your situation. We got into a similar situation a few years ago. For your case, I think it is greed. Mine is not so straight forward. We wanted a flat at a specific location with lift level. My father had a stroke then & although he recovered, he had problem walking. So we decided to get a flat near to his favorite coffee shop and barber so that my father has easy access to these places. When we found the unit, we already sold off our place and the seller of new flat disappeared after the 1st appointment. Later we learnt that the seller who is above 55, had married a young Filipino and had a 2 year old son. As he had financial difficulties and had trouble paying for the flat, he decided to downgrade. However, he bought the flat at the peak of the price and when he sells it, the Singapore'a economy is in recession. As he is above 55, he realized that if he sells, all the money goes to his CPF and he would not get a single cent. Later we also learnt he did not pay the town council for 3 years which must be paid before flat could be sold. We had sympathy for the seller but we were put in a difficult position. In the end, we ended up paying all the outstanding town council fines and agents of both parties waived off their fees. -
I changed the color scheme of bed sheets and curtains to gold/brown. Changed the ambience of my master bedroom totally. Brown 1 by PinkTissue, on Flickr The curtains are from taobao. Aren't they pretty? The main curtain is very heavy. Love the lace details as they add a touch of class without being too 'country'. Brown 2 by PinkTissue, on Flickr

I love this! I think it would look nice with the blue wall tiles of my master bedroom. Curtain by PinkTissue, on Flickr

Thanks for the tip. I saw a yellow, white and blue French style kitchen while googling.I love the color scheme. I may just consider it. My Mr Contractor is trying to sway me to go for the ultra modern one though. I think he got very stressed doing my reno as he has never encounter my type of reno before. Even his workers took pictures of my house after reno. A non-standard kitchen may just throw him off to the deep end

Love this onyx TV wall. Cannot afford though :-( I fell in love with onyx & wanted it for my vanity counter top but it is so expensive that I got scared off. Now need to buy more 4D. Onyx feature wall by PinkTissue, on Flickr

Wondering anyone has a TV feature wall made of marble? I think the price would be prohibitive. Mr Contractor suggested a faux fire place but I don't like the idea.....just too faux. Come on, fire place in Singapore?

My reno is more or less complete minus the kitchen and some areas like the TV feature wall. I am doing in phases because I am staying in the house while renovation is going on. You could take a look at my reno here My Reno I think you would know from my reno why I am still deciding between the country or ultra modern. Neither style quite fit my current deco. I love country style but I want to melt at the thought of cleaning after cooking. But ultra modern style is a bit off too. The only thing I am sure is that I want to get those tiles that look like dark wood planks. Saw them at Soon Bee Huat and really love them.

Hope to see more updates. My reno is done except for the kitchen. Not sure whether to do country style or modern.

Really like these mosaic tiles although cannot find a place to use them. Maybe back splash of my yet-to-be renovated kitchen backsplash? Kitchen by PinkTissue, on Flickr

Underthestar - thanks for your compliments. It must be the magpie in me - like all things bright and shiny. Preferably gold. I don't really like the Scandinavian style which is so popular everywhere. My contractor's eyes popped out when I told him my vision. At times, I also have doubts I have overdone the in-your-face deco, especially the master bedroom toilet (purple chandelier in toilet) but the results turned out well that my friends made a beeline to THE toilet. The wall tiles turned out to be really lovely.

Pamelo - the contractor put a layer of laminate over the existing laminate. As for the price, it is dependent on the sort of laminate you choose. They can range from a few dollars to $250 per meter. Also take note how many layers of laminate they give. If want to re-laminate, better only do it for areas like bedroom or living room. Not advisable for kitchen or bathroom because there is a risk of peeling because of oil or moisture.

Generally I am quite pleased with the reno EXCEPT that it has dragged on too long. I did not touch parts of the living room (e.g. TV area) because I am still not sure what to do with them and I don't want to drag the reno on. I am still debating what to do with the kitchen. Again, nothing wrong with it except for the bad layout and horrible looking tiles and cupboards which is in very good condition. I am not sure whether to get a country style kitchen or an ultra modern kitchen. I am leaning towards a modern kitchen even though the rest of my house may not match (?). I am not sure how to categorise the style of my house reno but I am quite sure it is quite unique.

Shower area in the common bathroom. It also has a seating area made of marble slabs. Common bathroom 7 by PinkTissue, on Flickr We didn't quite like the plastic or metal/glass bathroom shelfing. Mr Contractor instead made them out of marble pieces which could hold all the bathroom stuff. Common bathroom 8 by PinkTissue, on Flickr
