  1. Finally added insect screens to the house. Living closer to the ground has its perks... INSECTS! So for a long time I did not dare open the windows and doors and it was stuffy. Now I can finally let in the fresh air. I made sure the contractors had screen frames in the same color scheme so that it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Didn't take photos of the bedroom balcony because I had laundry hanging but the cool breeze rubbing my eyes and bird chirping in my ears in the morning sure made it worth the expenditure. The netting itself is almost invisible giving a minimal yet effective facade. A closer look. Its a magnetic screen. None of my neighbors had any grills to their houses, I was happy to follow because they are very ugly and the contractor remarked it'll so much harder otherwise.
  2. actually i just came off reading this. the protagonist is a minimalist though far from minimalist aestheticism but more minimalist day-to-day living. i hope to marry the 2 together as i continue this Tblog into the future so whilst I go through the process of a minimalistic renovation and design for my pad, i am also going to talk about editing down my life in this pad. for starters, i have treated shrinking my electricity bill as a game. i have been stuck at ~RM$24 for sometime. Last month's bill came up to a whopping RM$17 (i don't live in abject darkness haha). i wonder if that is my tolerable limit. my water bills never exceeded RM$5 which is a minimum charge. I am thankful for the lower utility charges in JB compared to when i was living in SG. nevertheless, i hope to maintain a minimal carbon footprint whilst i enjoy my pad.
  3. Cheers. no need to apologize for your views from friend. i love to hear and read what board users think about the concept and you do bring up a pertinent point. The 'look' of minimalism is indeed difficult to emulate in a small space but i do think it is still possible though how successful it is depends on how much creature comforts the owner is willing to let up. The latter can be quite difficult for some. On a separate note for those following. this Tblog is not dead, it's just that I am really taking my time.
  4. Aiyo, so sorry salormoon!!! I was a bit busy did not come in here for some time. the address given for the shop is All for home (taman sutera/johor jaya), the diffuser is at 3+ (taman sutera only) which is another shop round the corner. This shop is facing the park which at the other end is the famous Peking restaurant.
  5. hello! the chair was from a digital catalogue think was from a european design house. Moooi is represented by space in SG. What I like about Moooi is Marcel Wanders' design for the furniture house. You can see a sample of his stuff here.
  6. the anti-thesis to minimalism. Part 1 Part 2 - i dropped my jaw so many times i lost count
  7. The CNY is starting on a more sombre note as I hear the rain create an euphonious rhythm on the roof. I hear its the water dragon year perhaps that's why. May the water wash away the bad omens of yesteryear and bring fresh hopes and fortunes for everyone. I am heading to bed and and just before that a little meditation. And of course I minimalism bed frame would be so apt (nobody it seems stock a similar design when I was looking for it some time back).
  8. I have been looking at a few lighting shops. Comparatively, their prices are much more affordable. But the thing is when I step into the shop with these images in mind but they tend to have less replica designs and more ornamental complex designs. Am close to buying a pair from a shop. Again, will post the FR when everything is confirmed whether its good money for it or not. Here's some designs I really like. glo-ball pendant lamp from flos bolla floorlamp by gervasoni1882 tube pendant lamp from herstal square boon from moooi
  9. Thanks newbie am happy that yourself and others are helping to pitch in details when I am short on it! Here's wishing all a prosperous year with smooth renos for those who are embarking on it and smooth setting for those shifting in after reno.
  10. Hmmm abit more talk about lightings i hear? I am keen to get the following for my courtyard. Much less intricate vs. the artichoke but there is a sense of divinity about it. Will hunt for more on the internet next few days.
  11. Thanks for the address newbie! oh the address looks like another branch of the shop. did not know they have a branch too. All the best for your reno!
  12. Whilst going through the reno process very slowly I am beginning to have thoughts about buying a piece of land to built up from scratch. that could potentially be a bigger endeavor but many times more exciting.
  13. Sailormoon hope you get what you want. Adidaem thanks for the info.
  14. Unity of the theme throughout the house, i think is one of the hardest things to do especially in my case where I hunt for diverse works and carpentry. A lot of things I am tempted to make the purchase because individually they're awesome but put it into the bigger picture. They clash.
  15. Went around talking to sales persons a bit think generally its not a good time to order any kinds of reno prior to CNY. Everyone's talking up the price. Should lay low for now till people have finally given up on saving Greece. Guess its enlarging my scrapbook collection for now of house IDs that I like.
  16. hey salormoon its RM39 if i did not remember wrongly. btw your place seems to be coming up nicely! getting ready to buy stuff to cozy up the place?
  17. A few more chair/lounge/sofa photos for review:
  18. pk no worries. the chairs well, am happy with them because they do look the part but in terms of built quality I should think it is inferior to the original not too shabby but not top notch. yes, you said it! though sometimes, i want it to go quicker but have since learnt to go slow and steady. the diffuser was gotten from 3+ inspiration in the townhouse shop rows near sutera mall in JB if you're in the vicinity. you can use the facade I captured on page 3 to find the place (i don't have the address).
  19. A few days break with a bit of reflection on the side. Bought the diffuser from the shop mentioned earlier. i like how it has this allium flower head look in white and still loving the wood grained details on the dining table top. The scent is quite discreet flowery a light hint of autumn reminding me when I was in school in the UK smelling flower scents for the first time so distinctly never did so in Sg i guess because these scents are too volatile for the hot weather.
  20. when i am a bit more free next few days, will be taking small shots of some home-improvement things I have done whilst waiting for the mosquito netting and also confirming the courtyard overhaul. meantime, some more good stuff.
  21. And so the netting guy came along. I got to know about the essential stuff and decided to engage him. Unfortunately, the fastest he can do it is well after CNY. I guess I still have got to endure the classes of insectology for a bit. In the meantime, I am starting to look for lounge chairs, sofas, couches. Right now I only have the dining table and the dining chairs. Which is fine except that a more comfortable sitting would be REALLY nice. I guess I should be featuring them here in the next few days until I have more info & pictures both of the courtyard and netting to blog about.
