Why not WE start brainstorming and exchange best practice ideas? after all, we're the one who generates the rubbish.. -
Pay Plastic Bag To Buy From Ikea (starting From 22 April)

I think it's fine.. I am an environmentalist and when I studied in the UK 7 years ago, I had to pay for plastic bags too.. In Spore I think the usage of plastic bags is too liberal, Often I have at least 2-3 pieces too many plastic bags from NTUC or Cold Storage for a S$30 worth of groceries.. Sometimes I asked them to combine the items.. I reuse these plastic bags for lining my trashbins, but there are still piles and piles of them despite my effort. Paying for the plastic bag, is the only effective way to force the usage of reusable bags. Encouragement is nice, but it's not the most effective. When I was teenager I read a story about the future (forgot the title, it was a child novel from a scandinavian country), where the earth is so poluted, plants can't grow anymore easily. Vegetables have to be grown in green houses and it costs like ****, and water has to be obtained by processing sea water. Government had to ration the water alocation per head and each family can only have so much. Clothes are not washed, they're treated chemically instead. The world can't afford to keep zoos in many places, so most children can't learn about animal 1st hand, they only know them from books. From surveys, most customers of course will not be happy in paying for plastic bags. After all if we're so used to get it for free, why would we want to pay now? But just remember plastic is a non biodegradable, and Spore has limited space for landfill or incinerator (which will give you nasty fumes in your atmosphere in return), so if we start to do our little bit now, if we're not counted as doing much in sustaining the environment, at the least, we're doing less to harm it. -
Coping Without A Maid?
Nin's replied to ARCHer's topic in Maids & Cleaners - All About Domestic Help
I use part time maid, once a week. She does the harder works like scrubbing bathrooms, mopping/vacumming, ironing some clothes that needs to be ironed and cleaning windows sometimes. She also tidy up my clean laundry like folding them and put them on the wardrobes. Daily my hubby cooks and does the guys stuffs like fixing stuffs and get me heavy stuffs. I do laundry and washing pots/pans. We have dishwasher so no headache there. Hubby will unload dishwasher and load to shelves. both of us load the dishwasher as when we have dirty crockeries/cutleries. Once our baby arrives, we will engage nanny who will come to the house 7am-7pm until our child is big enough for child care. Both of us working, my hubby travels 70% of his time, while I travel 10%. -
My parents did all the housework along with the maid while my bro and his wife just live there as if they were kids. I scolded both of them and get them outta the house!! Even if my parents never complaint, I do not accept behaviour of adult kids treating their parents like maid, for whatever reason! Nice parents will never complaint they prefer to have serenity in the house and absorb all the craps themselves. We the adults ones must do our duty of care in taking care of them now that they're old. Shame of us if we make our parents maid in their own house.

Our master bathroom has similar design, except that we bought rainbow set from hansgrohe, so the installation is similar to a normal shower head with sliding bar, but the surface of the shower head is much bigger hence same with rainshower. So if wanna take a bath and having shower head in the hand, still can do. take a look here for for the rainbow set http://www.hansgrohe.com.sg/sg/en/products...890038C5FF.html If you decided on tthis one, remember to ensure that your plumber measure it first before installing all the piping, as rainbow is much taller than normal shower set. I had problem with rainbow in my common bathroom and changed it to this one: http://www.hansgrohe.com.sg/sg/en/products...890038C5F2.html But after taking shower at both, both gave same feeling, I guess cos they have same surface size plus using the same AIR technology..

PAdang food is similar to malay food, this is one of the best food in Indonesia, any etnic group in Indo loves it! rendang, gule, all come from this etnic group's dishes.. Unfortunately Padang is also the city in Sumatera where the epicentrum of the earthquake was You need to pay attention to the news for possible earthquake in Bali.. Although Bali only has 2 volcanoes and both have been sleeping so far, bu they're still active.. Indonesia is on volcanic line, from south to north, and east to west.. These volcanoes are all interconnected deep in earth, so if one is cooking, there's possibility another or more will be too..

LL, To be sure of halal-ness, look for Padang restaurant. In Denpasar you may like to go to SEDERHANA, they have the nicest padang food, it's a chain from Jakarta. THey are also reasonably priced. Any padang resto in Indo are halal.. so no worries there.. All fast food resto like KFC and Mc D are halal Indo wide.. Or take seafood.. Most non-padang restaurants sell pork though, specially balinese restaurant like Murni's or Bebek bengil. However if you order seafood stuffs, most unlikely the cooking process will be mixed with pork related dishes..

Well if you travel to any tourist destinations , mostly u will get some bad ppl on your way. I did once in barcelona, 2 gypsy women cornered me pretended to beg but the other hands were touching my bags.. In Amsterdam Central St, some junkies approaching me pretending to be nice and all, but I can see they were eyeing on my suitcases. I was alone, with 2 big suitcases, queueing for tickets. So looks like an easy target right? NOPE.. I eat those kind of pick pockets for breakfast So I gave them sweet smile and told them the police is there and if thye don't leave me I will scream my lung out. Oh yeah, suddenly they understand English!! So you see, it's everywhere.. You just have to be firm and street smart. Lots of my angmoh friends never kena cheated in Bali, even when they did the 1st trip, why? Cos they know how to say NO. I never engaged a massage lady at the beach who sells beads either, cos of the hygienic concern.. Go to a spa, they have price list. When I bargained for stuffs I never got "new" price when I am ready for payment. Even my mother in law who can't be bothered counting the rupiah bills never kena cheated when she shopped.. So.. street smart is always the answer when you travel, anywhere..
