  1. DAY FOUR My papa's bangalah workers went to the house this early morning to clear all the built-in wardrobes for disposal. Left the bulky items such as TV, console, and 2 aircons to be cleared tomorrow morning before Kevin's contractors start work tomorrow. We met Kevin this evening, and he clarified the renovation progress with us. We have also agreed on the additional/cancellation works that we want to do, so he will be amending the VO and send to us later. Based on his professional experience, he quickly did all the measurements and markings within 5-10 minutes. We believe he and his contractors have worked very long, and have strong mutual trust and understanding already, if not he would not tell us that his contractors would start the demolition work in the morning (without him), and he will come in late morning. As mentioned earlier, we intended to hack a new door way for the MBR, so that all 3 room doors can form a short "corridor". This is the marking that Kevin has drawn to show the HDB officer, who will be coming to visit the house. In MBR Outside MBR, in Living Pardon for the dark pictures because we have switched off the electricity from DB. The house will be pitch dark for the next following days/weeks/one month. We are ready for tomorrow morning's demolition works. The contractors will be coming as early as 9:30AM tomorrow. We look forward to the smooth renovation progress.
  2. Or maybe ask your contractor/ID to revarnish the front gate, it will look better
  3. As per your recommendation, we went to Hoe Kee Genting Lane to buy our plumbing items. The sales people there are very friendly and helpful. So much better than Jln Besar. Congrats on moving in. It feels good to stay in a new home.
  4. Hi Szehui. Thank you for visiting. Yes, we thought of calling town council to arrange their contractor to collect the bulky items for us, but when we thought of that, was a bit too late. They need at least 3 days in advance notice. We are starting renovation next Monday, so no time for town council to collect the items next week. Therefore, we have to dispose off the items ourselves. As for the heater, we also thought of 15ltr might be too small for us, so we bought a 30ltr, but afraid 30ltr will be too much, but Ariston does not come in 20-25ltr. We are not doing hot water pipes for the sink/basins, as this will add additional costs to our budget, plus we don't really need hot water for washing hands or plates.
  5. Oh, she is right! Nobody likes to shift in new houses or move house during 清明. Bear with it.
  6. Nice view from living room, but you have to bear with the noise, especially on weekends. Often many guys kick soccer on weekends, and they can be quite noisy. I like your front gate, does it come together when signing with HDB? I want to do a gate something like yours too, with the panel at the moment. I realised this afternoon, the bangalah washed the floor and anyhow spray around. My wooden front door was wet. I scared as this goes on, my wooden front door will be rotten. Need a panel to block the water.
  7. Hi muska1119. I agree, the debris bin/container can cost quite a lot. My helpers are my hubby and father. They are my strong men
  8. Mitsubishi was out of stock for some suppliers 2 weeks ago. My aircon contractor informed us that it was out of stock, but today he called and said will try to help us place order for it. If don't have, we are okay to opt for Panasonic too. Save at least $200-300 if choose Panasonic.
  9. Yes, at least 27-28 years
  10. Tangs offers discounts for cutlery sets?
  11. End of today's work. The amount of debris pile up as a mountain again, more than yesterday. My papa and bangalahs will collect and dispose the debris tomorrow. We also managed to dismantle the window aircon unit. We didn't dare to touch the wall aircon unit as we may mishandle and drop the aircon out from our unit. Too dangerous.
  12. potatoes: Yes, really tough work. We didn't save much also because we have to pay the factory to dispose the debris. The amount of debris we are throwing is really a lot. I think the factory may charge us another $200 for the second trip. I agree with you to pay the ID/contractor the money to dismantle/disposal. It is not worth to do these by our ownselves.
  13. Your renovation work is processing well, heavenlyn. Looks like when the carpentry is ready, you are almost ready to move in too.
  14. Me too. I like the design and color of the tiles. Got resort feel
  15. Surprisingly my home ceiling height is really very low. I don't know why. Our ceiling is unlike the standard height that HDB should have. My hubby can reach the ceiling if he jumps and raises his hand.
  16. The most difficult wardrobe in last room down too. Hubby took more than 1hr to dismantle it. Slight damage on the left side of the wall The bed is also dismantled. Mattress and head board threw at level 1 What you see is the bed support.
  17. DAY THREE Hubby managed to tear down one wardrobe, which took him about an hour or more. Luckily my papa came over and helped him to dismantle the other 2 wardrobes within 1.5-2hrs. Come to think of that, it is not worth the time and energy to save a bit of money to tear so many carpentry things by ownself. Please do not try this at home. Leave it to the professionals. MBR wardrobe down Future study room wardrobe almost down, need to dismantle the big shelves and table into pieces before disposal
  18. Wow... count me in. I want to try his kitchen system too
  19. DAY TWO My father has arranged two bangalah to help us clear the debris that hubby managed to dismantle on first day. Throwing debris to Defu Lane is $200. The most difficult part to tear is the built-in wardrobes. Now that we have crowbar, hubby tried to pull out the wardrobes, but failed. Maybe we are afraid to damage the wall if we use force to pull out the wardrobes. Shall try today (again) to see if can pull out the wardrobes.
  20. Everyday is SUNDAY Shopping Yesterday, we went to Hoe Kee to re-measure the toilet bowl and the basin dimension. Got a feeling that the sink is too big to fit in the toilet, though our contractor said it was okay to take 18" basin. We wanted to place the basin and toilet bowl at one side, so there must be ample space between the wc and basin. The other side will be shower area. When my hubby recalculated the toilet dimension (space between the toilet bowl and basin), only 14-16" basin can fit in the toilet. The basins that we bought from Hoe Kee were 18", which could not fit into our toilet. Therefore, we changed to smaller basins; 16" for MBR, 15.5" for Common (Common dimension is shorter by 0.5") MBR Common We spent another $100+ to buy additional accessories like the hanger, additional glass shelf, wall brackets for shower mixer etc.
  21. When the carpentry is completed, show us the final result. I would also like to try this color tone too
  22. If you want black and white theme, the floor tiles need to be white or black to create the right contrast?
  23. Ya, I missed out the last sentence. Saw that post. Haha thanks. I didn't expect this wood color can create this type of color contrast, and most people would not choose this too. Very daring color
  24. Water leakage can be quite serious. It is better to have it fixed before the water seep into the carpentry works. I think the hanging light might be too heavy, hope it won't drop and create damage to the false ceiling.
  25. Initially still worry there is not enough wood to create scandinavia look. Now you have many carpentry works with the right wood laminate to create the feel. Nice, I like the wood laminate color. What is the name for the wood laminate?
