  1. In case you guys must be wondering why we got so much time to visit the house everyday. The reason is because we are staying in my parents' house, and the distance between our new home and my parents' home is just 3 blocks away? My parents' house is also in Serangoon North
  2. Congrats in getting your new home. So much so for a long wait, finally.
  3. DAY NINE The renovation progress is going pretty smoothly, despite my indecisive bad habit to delay the construction of cabinet base yesterday. I don't mean it, I just want to find the best solution to fully utilise the kitchen space. Hubby has taken some pictures for today's work. Surprisingly, when I see the pictures, it looks like the wall tiles are almost completing very soon. The workers are super fast in their work. This is the wall tiles that we have chosen for common toilet. Only the shower head piece of wall will be using the brown tiles. The rest of the common toilet walls will be using white tiles Right side of the kitchen wall tiles are almost done. They are really fast workers. We have chosen white and brown tiles (different patterns from Common toilet) for the kitchen. Inbetween top and bottom cabinet we will use the brown tiles as backing, the rest will be white tiles. We like bright and clean look That's all for now. Shall update the progress later tonight again. Stay tune!
  4. Valerie: Regarding your question about the dish rack if can be dropped directly from ceiling, we cannot answer yet. My contractor said will check then let us know. I think I saw a blog here that he/she has a false ceiling/L-box above the L-end to drop down the dish rack. If the dish rack can be directly dropped from the ceiling, that will be better, but I foresee not possible to do that. Even if from direct ceiling, the dish rack might look ugly too because of the length of the side metal pole. As mentioned above, there is a slight change to the kitchen cabinet layout again. I was convinced to have the L-end facing the window, and we adopted the concept that Valerie has provided us on Pg 7 (Thank you Valerie, I hope you don't mind we "steal" your idea): And this is the draft drawing from my contractor. He proposed a short top cabinet to drop down the dish rack. The dish rack will not have any backing, so this will allow the sunlight to shine through the rack to prevent the kitchen from getting too dark. I like this concept - the dish rack is above the sink, and I get more cabinet space. The kitchen layout will be like this (Drawn by me; not accurate measurement) Hope my kitchen turns out well
  5. I agree with battle. You can find the spare parts in hardware shops. If it is just screws and not glued, you can change the parts easily.
  6. Morning May. I may be still living in the olden days, where dryer hose needs to put out of the window. I feel so embarrassed to trouble so many people to think of my kitchen layout over the night.
  7. Valerie: Yes, so fast end of the week. The renovation work is progressing faster than I expected. If I was not so indecisive yesterday, the kitchen major works (cabinet base, waterproofing, etc) may complete by today. (Sorry, there is a slight change to the kitchen layout again. Stay tune!) Hi mihochris. Thank you for visiting our blog, and thank you for the compliment. Do remember to show with us your renovation journey. All the best to you!
  8. The black and white paint makes your house looks cool.
  9. END OF DAY EIGHT The MBR old doorway entrance is covered up. Previous conceal electrical casements are also covered up. The door wood frames have also arrived
  10. Really to hold bananas lah. See the picture
  11. Aiya. It is better to separate account. He has his own way to comment, and I have my own style of posting. Robert Chua is carrot head.
  12. May: You are right. I agree the cabinet beside the fridge is redundant. I am thinking if I buy a 2 door fridge, then can occupy that space well. Then flush the cabinet to the wall, beside storeroom, then do a L shape near the window. Another headache. No space to squeeze in between the fridge and the cabinet. I cannot leave a lobang there too. Dryer needs to put the long tube out of the window when using right? That is also a headache. If I put washer and dryer outside common toilet, the tube may not be long enough to put out to the window. If i place washer beside rubbish chute, no dryer can be mounted beside rubbish chute. I guess something has to be sacrificed. No dryer for us.
  13. I did consider to do a U-shape for the kitchen, but my contractor said the kitchen will be quite squeezy if we do this concept. I was considering maybe we get a smaller dining table that can accommodate 4 persons, or a extendable dining table, so when there is more people coming to my house for lunch/dinner, I have a bigger table to accommodate them. Not sure if a smaller dining table will make the kitchen less squeezy or not.
  14. Not everyone owns a car, and not everyone got the strength to carry such a heavy hood to the warehouse for exchange. Even if there is such thing call taxi, carrying a hood from the house to downstairs to flag a taxi also need the strength. To carry down the hood, walk into the warehouse also need strength. You should be considerate to think about this point before making your comments. Not for this, I feel that you should be considerate on the other comments you made. You may feel that it is just you, you talk this way, but many people like myself don't really know you well. So please be considerate to others. Thank you.
  15. I like the idea to have the rack like that, but I'm not sure if require false ceiling to install the rack, or can install the rack on the real ceiling wall. I intend to put the dining table on the right side of the kitchen. Been spending the whole day drawing and drawing the cabinet layout, and trouble my contractor to keep calling me to explain why my designs don't work, mainly because of the walking space, piping, etc.
  16. NeoBy: They have not built the kerb yet. Initially wanted to build today, but I need to think about the layout for a day, so by tomorrow morning let the contractor knows, so they will start to build the kerb tomorrow. May: So it means there is a separate bottom cabinet on the right to put the kitchen sink?
  17. Don't dwell on this. Don't need to bother about flamers.
  18. Uncle thought you will close eyes and chin cai person, so he tried to squeeze a bit here and there so you will not notice, but too bad, your name is not Robert Chua.
  19. Hi May. You mean your friend also did his/her cabinet like this? Our contractor proposed the above layout if we don't want the L-shape. We also need to decide where we want to put our washing machine. Either beside rubbish chute, or outside common toilet. Initially I told our contractor to do two washer outlet, one beside the sink, one outside the common toilet, in case we want to swop the washing machine position, but hubby don't like the idea. If we place the washing machine on one side, the other side can see the outlet, which will be quite ugly. How do you guys think? Outside common toilet better, or beside sink? If we place beside sink, we cannot stack dryer there.
  20. Hi NeoBy. I guess they have not fabricated the cabinets yet, he has not given me the 3D design, and laminate not chosen yet. I asked for bigger piece laminates. The laminates in the catalogue book is too small, can't see the effect. And I haven't decide the cabinet layout, if not they would have done the kerb today liao. Now waiting for my answer by tomorrow morning, to decide how I want to place my cabinet. I saw your cabinet in your blog. Again, camera trick - From side angle, the cabinet looks small, but it may not be small from direct view in your kitchen. I proposed to do the L-end on the left side (which is beside the storeroom), instead of the L-end facing window, but contractor don't recommend putting the fridge beside the 2 pipes. Come to think of that, nobody wants to put fridge near rubbish chute too.
  21. DAY EIGHT Today is my turn to go back home to take a look. Before my lunch time, Kevin sent me pictures of the renovation progress, I thought it will be better not to go back today because they are doing screed wall, so won't have much updates for the next two days, and also since Kevin is there, no point go there to look at the workers screeding the walls. Then I received call from Kevin to confirm the tiles layout in toilets. Worried that phone can lead to miscommunication and the workers might be doing the wall tiles in toilets very soon, I rushed home to meet Kevin to clarify. The worker who is screeding the toilet walls is very fast. When I arrived, the toilet wall is almost completed. There is one issue. My kitchen is not very small, not very big, however, I feel the space is not fully utilised. The kitchen cabinet will be placed at the left side one row, no L-shape. I personally don't like L-shape concept because I want the dish rack to be above the sink. If I place my sink at the L-end, the disk rack has to be at the left hand side. I find this way is very inconvenient. Hubby don't like the hob to be placed at L-end either. If I don't do L-shape, my kitchen cabinet will be smaller. Hob and sink has to squeeze together. I don't like to cover the rubbish chute either! Don't like the idea to bend down and throw rubbish. So headache! We have only one night to think about it before they start to build the cabinet base tomorrow. Now starting to draw kitchen cabinets. Hope we come out something practical
  22. I agree. There will always be one party abuse the benefits, and make all disadvantage later
