  1. I have a question. If using fiber phone line, I assume we can dial out, but can people dial in to our fiber phone? Does it mean Singtel/Starhub will assign a telephone number to us if we are using fiber phone?
  2. Thanks Valerie. The toilets look brighter now. If HDB allows you to remove the air pipe, then it's okay. What I'm afraid is, if we block the hole, will it affect the neighbours' toilets, and what if one day the air suddenly just burst out due to air pressure, will it in turn affect your toilet? The smell....can make you feel very sick.
  3. Uh oh... Hope Gain City can push the installation date for you
  4. If I'm you, I choose Z. First is price cheap by 30%. 30% can be little can be more, depends on the total price quoted. Second is this is your contractor's contact. It will be easier for them to work together, you don't have to liaise. Third, no additional charges for two trips. All the advantages are laid on your table, you decide.
  5. Valerie, I like your foyer tiles. Look so resort-feel. Got balinese feel
  6. Ask them to clear the debris for you and be careful of the glass screen. I supposed the toilet ceiling has already painted?
  7. That's why I was puzzled how come do so many electrical points only $2k, quite impossible to do that, especially using ID's electrician. Luckily you have reduced the number of points. I feel that the previous setting you got has too many lighting and power points already. Can almost light up your neighbour's house.
  8. I think need to touch up again before Chinese New Year next year. Every year paint the pipe one time should be good enough to maintain the white look.
  9. Hi piknik. Yeah, I thought for many days and finally decided to ask Hubby to paint the pipes in white color. I hope the white pipe will not turn "brown" immediately Thanks for liking the bird cage.
  10. Wah... since when you become a man with no words? How come the toilet still so dirty, and they put up the glass screen & door? How are you going to clean the toilet?
  11. Ask the bangalah to replace a new meter box, if not, I think the PUB will fine us for the damage.
  12. PROBLEM ARISE Everytime I step into the MBR, I smell something very smelly coming from the toilet, but not sure if it is from the toilet. Yesterday, we bought dettol multi-purpose wash and washed the toilets. For that moment, the toilet smell very nice. I thought the problem was resolved. This evening, I went to the house after work, and entered in the MBR. Again, the smell came back. And guess what? Look at the picture below: Hubby found that the cap for this part of the air pipe was missing, that's why the awful smell came out from this hole. We don't know why nobody alert us that the cap is missing, and that it is causing the toilet and MBR so smelly. By right the plumber or the painter should have realised this much earlier than us, but no one told us about this. They could have informed us if we want a replacement cap for the air pipe. It is really very smelly, even I close the toilet door, the smell still come out from don't know where. Luckily we decided to repaint the toilet pipe today, and that was how we found out the smelly issue came from. Otherwise we will be kept in the dark, everyday wonder where or why the smell came from. My father was with us, so I informed him about this. He measured the dimension of the hole, and will help us to find the right size cap to stuff the hole to prevent the smell from coming out. I can't imagine if we did not find out about this problem, we will be sleeping in a smelly bedroom. O M G!
  13. Yes, he's the loving one, I'm the big bully. He likes to DIY things, feel more satisfied if he can do hands-on things. He even touch up the painting work for the doors and door frames in case the painters do not have sufficient time to do the painting work this Thursday/Friday. He is also thinking if want to paint the main door white color or not.
  14. END OF DAY THIRTY-NINE Thanks to Hubby's hard work. Today, he spent half of his day in the house to repaint the toilet pipes to white color because I wanted so much to change the color for the toilet pipes And here's the result of his effort: Common toilet MBR toilet Do they look better now?
  15. SCV point is TV point - same term. Why need wiring points for cooker hood and hob is because to hide the dangling cables from cooker hob and hood to plug to power socket. So all you see is power on/off switch only, not the plug head or wire from the cooker hob & hood. It depends if you are buying induction hob or using gas hob. If you are using gas hob, then you don't need wire point for hob. I shall take photos and show you tomorrow. Forgot to take just now, the electrician has fixed the cooker hood and oven wire points today. Actually the floor tiles look okay, don't look weird when two different tile colors combine with each other. It is the same as living room floor tiles are homogeneous tiles, and the bedrooms are laminate floorings. Both don't look weird too. Ours floor tiles quoted price should be similar to your quotation. Unless you opt for higher grade floorings. I asked my father and hubby. Both say don't need phone line if we are using fiber internet. Like what May says, can just plug the phone to the fiber modem, don't need to add phone socket My father loh. He is the boss. See what the bangalah did to my meter box For the amount we pay, that is the amount of work we get.
  16. We change plan to another service provider when the provider provides better freebies than the current one we subscribe. We swop around too
  17. First time using fiber broadband, not very sure how it works. Don't know if fiber modem can work without phone line or not. But if the fiber modem can work without a phone line, then I don't need a phone line. I want to sack the electrician not because of the phone line, is because of many other issues. My father just visited our house and asked why the meter box is wrapped with red tape. He is going to tell the bangalah to pay for a new replacement meter box. We suspect he broke the meter box cover. Haiz...
  18. Hi Bincho, thanks for the compliment. It is easy to DIY. You should try and make one yourself.
  19. Some neighbours don't understand. They just want to complain, whether have or no permit. Especially in old estates where old people stay home whole day, don't go out. If they work or go out, then the noise won't affect them. Our house is surrounded by families with grandchildren. I think the HDB officer just want to call and check with me if everything is okay. I should get some goodies for the neighbours, hopefully they stop complaining us.
  20. Just when I realised the telephone line is missing, I called Hubby immediately as he is on leave today, supervising the bangalah. Our electrician says the Singtel fiber modem don't need telephone line, and if we want to have telephone in future, we will just plug the digital phone into the modem to make phone call. Sounds like using Skype phone? This Saturday Singtel is coming to the house to install the fiber modem, let's see what they say. If my modem cannot work, I will kick the electrician out of the house, not pay him for his labor fees. BAD NEWS Today I received Bishan branch HDB officer phone call. Someone complained that we are too noisy due to renovation work. The HDB officer asked me if our renovation work is done, and if we are doing DIY things that require drilling. I said yes. Then he asked me if we are doing electrical work, I said yes yes. He told me our neighbour complained us for being too noisy, and the son is sick, so cannot bear the noise. I told him we will complete the electrical work by today, no more drilling. We know who is the culprit who complains us. It's the upstairs neighbour, a floor above us. Last Friday, she came to our house and complained the workers for being too noisy, and asked to stop work. That was around 3-4PM that time. Luckily the HDB officer is very nice, never give me the stern voice to demand us to stop the work.
  21. Thanks GOD that you ask about this. I know how to remind people to have telephone point, but I forgot to notice that stupid ah neh never put telephone point near my TV console area. I am going to deduct his salary!
  22. Ya, but I'm not sure if SCV box is still useful or not. If let's say we are not subscribing to Mio Home or Starhub cable vision, we still need to plug in SCV box to watch Channel 5, 8, U Channel etc right? I think SCV box is still required to plug in to watch normal local channels. I don't think TV can plug in Opennet to watch local channels. It is more for internet services and Mio Home/Starhub.
  23. May is right. Having SCV box can be redundant and also can be a backup. It depends which service provider you choose. I can sign-up with Singtel now, but in near future, I may want to switch to Starhub, then I don't need to worry if I have SCV box or not because I have already installed SCV box. One thing to take note, remember to ask your electrician to install telephone line beside the modem (where you want to put) so that you need not worry no telephone line for Singtel. My parents' house can only subscribe to Starhub because we want to place the modem on the TV console, but there is no telephone line near the TV console. This restricts us from subscribing to Singtel internet due to lack of telephone point. We are subscribing to fiber internet, so SCV box becomes redundant, but maybe next time we don't like fiber, we want broadband cable, we have SCV box standby already
  24. DAY THIRTY-NINE Finally, after waiting for almost a month, the opennet people are here to install opennet box for us. There is no earlier appointment, other than today (the earliest date we were assigned for). We missed the time frame when Opennet offers free installation, hence we need to pay $220 for installation. Luckily, Singtel is kind enough to help us liaise with Opennet to make appointment since we are signing the fiber broadband with them. On top of that, they gave us free 6 months' usage of fiber broadband when we sign up for Singtel fiber broadband That means to say, our opennet box installation is FOC! We gain free 6 months' subscription fees, and we use this 6 months payment to pay for Opennet installation. It's worth it! This is how the Opennet fiber trunking runs. We try to find the best route and minimize the trunking route. Luckily Opennet installer said that the fiber can go through the electrical trunking at the bottom, then connect with new trunking, to the new Opennet box. Actually cannot run same trunking as electrical wires as this will influence the frequency of the fiber wire, but anyways, it is for home usage, so it doesn't matter. It only took Opennet 20 minutes to pull the fiber and install the box. I would say they are efficient. Their installers are bangalah, mine electrician also bangalah, why he can't work as fast as them?!
  25. This tool comes in handy for checking wall tiles and hard-to-reach places. Glad that it helps you in checking the hollow tiles.
