Bay Window
Andreja replied to limtan's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
All our 4 bedrooms are facing the sun almost all day (from 11am-7pm) and all of them have baywindows. We covered them with laminate 4 years ago, but not in one piece cos some of baywindows are 4m lenght - non of them didn't pop up! Our laminates are not good quality cos very soon after the installation they had scratches so 2 years ago on part of them in three rooms we put cushions for lay down (to be like 'reading corner'), when other parts are in use for decoration items or (in kids rooms) low shelves. Even once we had issue with cracked wall when rainwater came under the laminates but nothing happened to them. As well, 2 years ago we installed window solar films everywhere - more for blocking the sun heat, than for protection of furniture. So, by my experience, I will go for laminates definitely. Solid surface is maybe easier to maintain (do not scratch so easy), but it is very cold to sit on it. -
Cockroach
Andreja replied to aunty's topic in Moving House: Packing, Storing, Moving To Your New House
Yes, it is, but everything is clean. I've spoke with Management and Pest Control contractor and they gave me some advices..... After lots of research thru internet, I've found out that roaches love cardboards and boxes and very often can be hidden in some of them when some food from supermarkets are delivered .....and few days before I've found the first roach, I had delivery from Carrefour, 4 cardboxes, directly to my kitchen.... I've bought some baits, but I cannot found from which hole/place they are coming from b'cos every time I found them at some other place in the kitchen.... Already saw small ones, it looks like there was some female with eggs.... It's not so alarming situation yet, but I found at internet that from only one (1) female can in one year be around few thousands of cockroaches - which scares me like ..... -
As per my experience, given total cost include the delivery at your home. Only, if you are in some higher floor and need to use the lift, then be aware of lift dimensions - meaning, if ordered piece of furniture can enter into the lift (vertical or horizontal). Otherwise, assume that delivery must be by hand up to stairs, so there maybe they will charge you extra......I'm not sure b'cos that wasn't happened to me, you must check it with Ms Patricia those details. But, if furniture can be delivered by lift to your place, then you should not worry about any extra charge. Like I've mentioned somewhere above in one of my posts - first quoted price was the same like I've paid at the end, so no any hidden cost or extra charges upon delivery.

Building A Room In Penthouse Roof Terrace
Andreja replied to ffantasy221's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Umbrella is not safe 'cos you are on very high floor and maybe wind can throw it down over the terrace. I saw once one umbrella flew from high floor of one condo next to mine, fortunately fell down to meadow.... It is very interesting idea that one with creepers ......... You have PM. -
Where To Find This Type Of Children Bed And Table Set
Andreja replied to cocoangel's topic in Home Furnishings
Something similar, available in S'pore, you can find here http://www.ledasystem.com.sg/bed_models.html . The colours are very bright, but I assume that can be customised. -
Just today I found out for some other shop with similar furniture as well: Leda System http://www.ledasystem.com.sg/ . They have hidden beds with desktops underneath and here is the catalogue of them http://www.hiddenbed.com/ . As well, there is one video how its works .Here are some pics from their website: (for this model the price is S$ 2999 for single size bed, and S$ 3199 for supersingle bed)

I'm not sure if I understand what "wooden bedtime with a poster bed design" can be, but regarding the customization of anything made of wood I can highly recommend Malacca Woodwork. They are working with wood, not plywood. My experience with them you can find here http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=52271 . At their web-site http://www.malaccawoodwork.com/ can be found many photos of their furniture, and some of bed frames are here http://www.malaccawoodwork.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3_22&sort=20a&page=1 . The photos are only example, they can do any other design.

Many thanks! You should read some of the posts above - Next week is The Fair @ Hilton hotel 13.-14.09.2012. ((13.09. (Thu) -> 10am-7pm; 14.09. (Fri) -> 10am-5pm)), admission free!. So, it was only yesterday and today.
-
Very picturesque description, I must say..... I went to the Fair as well today and saw Mrs Patricia and her husband there..... I was really glad to see them again.

I have tempered glass.......and rather prefer not to have it..... It is so hard to have the table top clean cause EVERY spot is visible, from fingerprints onwards.... You must polish it really few times until is spotless otherwise it wil look dirty..... It is the same like for the window glass, some times it driving me crazy when I see some spots there, but it's not so big problem like for the table with glass top..... And not to mention scratches, you cannot avoid them.....my friend warned me not to buy this kind of table cause she has it and know how is hard to maintaine - but, I wanted it badly.... Yes, it is very nice and it looks like not to bulky, but......really, if I will be in situation that I will need to buy a new one, never again with glass top.

Which one? I mean, here are few of those shops and all don't have the same items.....

Cockroach
Andreja replied to aunty's topic in Moving House: Packing, Storing, Moving To Your New House
NEVER EVER found any cockroach in my home, and now already 4 in one week (3 in the kitchen and 1 in living room - I think that one in living came from outside cos I saw him to fly around)! ! ! ! Anyway, since I have no experience with that bugs, what I should do now? I know that I need to get rid of them, but heard that products from NTUC or similar are not so good, so......what now? I'm not sure, but I think that they are coming from drain hole in the kitchen (you know that one on the floor, around sink area, at the bottom of the kitchen cabinet).....today I sealed it with tape, but I'm not sure if that is good idea cos hot water from dishwasher is going there and for short time tape will maybe come off due to steam...... Saw at internet some tricks with acid boric powder - anyone has any experience with that???? Where can be bought? Maybe I should report that to Management, maybe the Pest Control is not doing their job......I mean, never saw roaches before in my home, so it is not any issues with my cleaning cos (if it is) then they will came much earlier.... Pleaaaaaaaseeee, any help????? -

Regarding your wooden block which you are looking for, there is some shop as well with furniture made of natural wood http://www.thevivanttree.sg/aboutus.html . It looks expensive, but who knows...... -
The Furniture Mall @ Beach Rd doesn't exist anymore. They moved in June to Toh Guan Rd (Jurong East, next to IMM). http://www.thefurnituremall.com.sg/home.php I'm not sure if I understand that "around central area"....I mean, above are listed many shops, some of them are in Tanglin Rd, River Valley and so on, so just is needed to look at the list..... Despite that what the name of this topic is Furniture Directory (for stores not in Furniture Malls), some malls are listed as well.

Four years ago, I've bought my Franke sink from Asia Excel - but @ Balestier Rd. I've looked first at all shops in IMM and then gone to Balestier. I wanted 1+1/2 bowl (one big + one small) and here were not so many brands who carried that model at that time. Anyway, found that the same Franke model is cheaper in Asia Excell @ Balestier than in their shop @ IMM. When I asked how that can be cos that is the same company and the same model so price should be equal, they said that is cos of higher rent of shop space at IMM (???????). Anyway, just to let you know...... Oh, yeah, and Balestier had a much more sinks on display that their shop at IMM.

Here is a one thread where someone is recommended for doing a main door http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=44213&st=80 - (post #108). When you click that link, there you will find photos of other doors and windows, so maybe it's worth to ask for quotation.

As I wrote above at the end of my first post: Next week is The Fair @ Hilton hotel 13.-14.09.2012. ((13.09. (Thu) -> 10am-7pm; 14.09. (Fri) -> 10am-5pm)), admission free! Malacca Woodwork will be there as one of the vendors. So, if someone would like to see what they can offer, as well as maybe to place some orders, it will be chance to spare trip to Malacca and see them at that Fair. Due to lack of space at Fair they cannot display many items, but anyway enough that someone can see their workmanship. When they were at that last Fair a year ago when I first met them, there were owners Ms Patricia Lim and her husband (sorry, I cannot recall his name). As I understood, Ms Patricia is dealing with orders and her husband is main carpenter. First he saw my photo of bookshelves, confirm that they can be done exactly like on photo and after I spoke with Ms Patricia about quotation and time of delivery. Later on, I was in correspondence with Ms Patricia thru emails. If you cannot visit The Fair @ Hilton and speak with them in person ('cos of your working hours or whatsoever), their contact info can be found at their web site http://www.malaccawoodwork.com/ . Ms Patricia wrote me from email address "mwpatl@.....", but I think that she will reply from any other address published there. However, I will strongly recommend you to go and meet them at The Fair, especially if your order is something 'special'. Just to highlight again - this is NOT any kind of furniture fair. The vendors are usually with clothes, jewelry, deco items and so on, and Malacca Woodwork is only vendor with some furniture items. In Hilton will be more fairs in the next few months by the same name "The Fair", but (as far as I know) this one in September is the only one when they will be present because they are coming in S'pore only once a year.

Another stand, which I found very nice, was twisted: Almost the same twisted stand (stool) I saw after at some other shop @ Dempsey Road. The shop name is "Woody Antique House / Woody Antique Collection", but I don't know the price of it. -

I saw something similar more than 3 years ago at shop "Oriental China Collection". The shop was in South Bridge Road (Chinatown), opposite Sri Mariamman Temple. We ordered there some items so I was there few times and spotted few interesting items. BUT - I don't know why I have it in my mind, I think that shop is not anymore there..... I was in Chinatown recently and somehow I rememmber that there is something else, at same place where that shop used to be.......but, please, don't catch my words, better to go and check as I'm not sure...... Anyway, this is what I saw there and took photos 'cos I liked it: -
I mentioned that in one post above that total high is 140 cm (so, circle is that diameter as well). Depth is 30 cm. I will PM you about the cost. I mean, I do not hide the cost of it, but - this is custom made and the price I've paid is exactly for that. I really respect that people and their very good workmanship, and I don't want that someone maybe will get that my cost like comparison and use it to bargain with them for own items. So, I will not publish it, but will PM to anyone who is interested.
