  1. can i check with anybody who has done an ikea kitchen. can we get the ikea contractor to cut the solid top to fit the hob and sink? i think according to the ikea website, they will only do it for the wooden tops? and anybody can post some pictures of their ikea kitchen?
  2. no lar.. haven't even gotten my keys.. talking about my mum's place, which was renovated about 2+ years ago.. 1. when they just fitted the wardrobe everything looks ok, but the runner wasn't fitted properly, so after awhile, the drawer couldn't close properly, when the drawer can't close properly, it hits the sliding door and the sliding door can't open properly -.- worse thing is, i only live there 1/2 the week, the other 1/2 i stay with my in-laws, and that particular drawer is my undies drawer (how many times a day am i gonna open that!!).. 2. the mirror also got black spots which can't be cleaned off and the laminate for my wardrobe also started to peel...... 3. one side of the leg of my dressing table is supposed to be secured to the wall and floor (it's 1 long piece perpendicular to the wall), but it's flimsy, with a light push, can move like a protractor.. 4. our dinning lights started to dim (1 of the tubes will suddenly turn off, then maybe the next day it will be ok), got an electrician to look but also cannot find the cause.. 5. 1 of the yard lights totally cannot on.. 6. the roof wasn't fitted properly, birds flew in and made a nest and can hear flapping sounds, poor baby birds, some fell out and got caught by my dog who proudly brought the mangled body to us 7. toilet pipe got choked and toilet bowl can't flush, after investigating, found out that the workers throw stuff down the pipe -.- only item 6 & 7 got fixed because we found out within the 1st year, contractor gave us 1 year warranty.. so it's very important to check your house thoroughly before you accept the handover from your ID/contractor..
  3. your mil is really something..... how about you ask her if her kitchen drawers all open got knock into each other or not? ask her to go to your other relative's homes and ask her to look at all the cabinetry and ask her to see if what you got is "normal". bring her to see other peoples' homes and show her what normal workmanship is suppose to be, or go to IKEA, i'm sure you've heard of IKEA horror stories, but then, even theirs still open nicely..... (also remember to tell her that all these cabinetry are also done by humans hor) at the very least, if you are really going to accept the cabinetry, get a huge discount for it, really not worth paying full price for such workmanship.. later got any problems might still need to spend more money to get somebody else to rectify.. personally, relative or no, i'll tell them to go fly kite, please take their cabinetry (or not need to hire somebody else to remove gonna cost money again) and get the **** outta the house.. but then, i'm very particular about drawers not opening straight (just recently discovered my wardrobe drawer is like that, now every day i open to take out my clothes, i keep staring at the imperfection......)..
  4. wow, bought from taobao a few times, but didn't think of asking seller to send to me direct. so you did not use any delivery service like Hoyoyo or 65daigou? then how did you make payment? by credit card or alipay? very good idea, and probably cheaper than any of those shipping services >.<
  5. maybe wood and white? or (the standard most likely will not go wrong) black and white? if you are a little more daring, how bout lime green and white? or blue would be nice too..
  6. hey Nexer, if you don't mind buying online, you can try beds.sg me and hubby bought 1 from them, queen size + sepora mattress with 5 year warranty, only $300 (free delivery), although it's only a platform bed, no headboard and mattress is firmness rating 4 (i find it abit too soft).. they do have lots of other designs as well, that are more expensive.. although their delivery guys very forgetful, they delivered the mattress, but forgot to bring the bed :bangwall: in the end, my delivery time was suppose to be 2pm, 12pm i got the mattress, 7pm then got the bed lucky it was Saturday, and we got the bed on that day, or not we sleep on mattress only liao.. then again.. it's still value for money and we will definitely buy again from them p.s: if you think $300 bed is flimsy, let me allay your worries.. the bed is very..... erm... hardy.. if you know what i mean
  7. haha.. then cry first.. cry now! you dun wanna wait liao that means you will accept such quality? tell hubby: you settle however you want, as long as the end product the house is perfect can liao
  8. I agree with fellow forumers, don't pay them until they rectify.. Seriously, to put it bluntly, it's you and your hubby who will be staying in the house for long term, not your mil.. If you pay for such sloppy work, next time spoil then you need to pay again to repair or rebuilt.. If they refuse to rectify, ask them to take all back and bring your business elsewhere, in fact, if it were me, if after their rectify, and still got this problem, i will still ask them to take back and go elsewhere with my money.. Seriously, if relative then they think they can pull this kinda of stunt on you, then you don't need to give them face.. Although that means you have to wait longer for your reno completion, but at least you don't have to keep regretting and looking at those eye sores.. if it was my mil, i will ask her, will she be willing to pay for this kinda of carpentry? if she say yes, then i'll tell her "you pay lor".. though i will do this because my mil oso 1 kind 1 and i know my hubby will definitely stand behind me if it comes to it, also, i know their family for 8yrs, i know she wun angry too long.. I see this kinda thing i also angry for you.. especially relatives sommore
  9. /imagines open the drawer liao then your butt bump into the counter behind.. or, if 2 person working in the kitchen, back to back, then need to ask the other person to move away when you wanna open the drawer my grandma house (one of the old 4 rm flats in Jurong), kitchen is so big, can have a party inside i even have an auntie (5 yrs old 4 rm flat) who wun let people into her kitchen when she is cooking because the kitchen is so small it's difficult to move around with 2 people inside..
  10. haha.. never think of that >.< cuz when i ballot SoB that time, see 20yr old flat jiu turn off liao.. thot many ppl will be like me.. wahahaha...
  11. i'm guessing sales of balance flat? SoB flats are put up for balloting too and there are some really old ones as well. Some reasons will be that the flat are taken back by HDB because of previous owner playing around with HDB rules (renting out before MOP, using the house for business that HDB do not allow, etc...), owner cannot pay HDB and HDB take back the house or that HDB built too many flats in the past and unable to sell finish (think these flats are built around the 1980s)..
  12. i would think that if it does not look mostly like the picture, i will take the picture and shove it into their faces and make sure they change until look like the picture.. of course, measurement still you give them de what.. they will still have to follow your measurements and workmanship is a given that it has to be good, otherwise, go complain to their boss!! i think the "if not no change shall be done" means that if you do not sign on it, then they will not start to change the existing without approval (signature).. i think they just want to make sure that this is what you want before they proceed with the change, and not to insinuate that you are choosy..
  13. hi, can i have your quote as well?? thanks
  14. more like paranoid parents =X almost forgot.. can send me your reno quote for reference? tia
  15. haha.. later they find out can do morse code through the wardrobe >.<
  16. children lor.. especially children will do that kind of thing.. planning ahead hahahaha.. now also no kid already think of children liao yea, also having the malware problem, since yesterday or the day before? can't remember liao.. but i juz click proceed anyway.. dun care
  17. hi~ very beautiful home you have.. love your toilet tiles too~ can i have your id contact and reno quote for reference? thanks
  18. aiyo, work whole day no need to go toilet? so where they go toilet at?
  19. alisawu1311@gmail.com thanks
  20. i have not purchase my lights online as my house is not ready yet but i've seen some forumers here do it. can't remember who, but there is 1 who outfitted her entire house with a lot of stuff from taobao.com (lights inclusive, there was even a very pretty crystal curtain). http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=49024&st=200 here is 1 who bought led downlights from taobao. can't find the 1 who outfitted her whole house that 1 though.. and yea, the website is taobao.com, is like the eBay/Amazon for China.. i have bought other stuff from taobao and for that kinda price, the quality is definitively better than what you can get in Singapore (i bought clothes, wallets and luggage bag, etc...).
  21. hey kiddo14, congrats on your wedding and new house can send me your reno quote? my budget also same as yours, and i'm very skeptical as to what 20k can do (but hubby say no loan so no choice)..
  22. alternatively, you might want to consider getting from China? seen a few forumers getting their LED downlights and LED light strips from China and seems pretty cheap. some even bought dining lights etc... an LED downlight, bulbs inclusive, can cost like S$6 (excluding shipping), which is many times cheaper than what you can get even in Malaysia. personally, i'm thinking of getting but unsure about quality (and hubby is also worried about safety as they do not have the safety tested tick thing as those you can buy in Singapore, although i told him that at those prices, if bulb blown i also happy to keep changing, but hopefully nothing more serious happens *touchwood*).
  23. hey~ love your reno .. was also thinking of doing the wooden floor with the seamless look across all the rooms, but for more of a Japanese style (didn't even know they got tile version until i saw your blog, way cool then dun have to worry about using too much water for mopping ).. can share with me your contractor contact and reno quote to look-see? tia also, you hacked 1 of the bedrooms to build a wardrobe for your masterbedroom, that means the wardrobe behind no wall? then how about the sound traveling to the other room? i was exploring the idea of hacking the wall between the 2 common bedrooms and building 1 long wardrobe to share (with doors on both side, cannot walk through de, divider in the middle so each side will only have 1/2 the length), but hor, liddat later they wanna disturb the other person sleeping in the other room then go knocking their wardrobe do you do anything special to the back of your wardrobe?
