  1. I had this problem at my previous place. Also went to Homefix and bought all sorts of expensive chemicals. But unfortunately, the insects live deep inside the wood. I even drilled holes in the wood and painstakingly sprayed the chemical into and inside the wood. But no use. After a few days, you will see the pile of small eggs/pellets/whatever again. In the end, I had to change the entire cupboard. I also thought they were wood worms or bore worms. But I was told by some pest control company that they are dry termites. I have no idea what they are. But I had the exact same problem as you, as far as I can tell from your pictures.
  2. I am surprised by the feedback on Heritage. Is this Heritage Bathroom Gallery along Geylang Road? I have purchased from them many times. No problems. But I always purchase from Irene (I think she is the supervisor or manager there?) or Sharrine. Don't know who is this Yuki staff. And when I had problems with one of the taps and one of the WCs, they arranged for supplier to come down to check. One from Toto, the other from the other brand (I forgo what brand).
  3. I also had my parts taken away. Not sure if I should classify it as stealing or simply their habit of using their own methods and keeping what is left (on the assumption that we the owners would not need them, would not want them, and would not have known anyway). Bought a number of Toto washlets (bidet). They came with a nice stainless steel T joint, to tap water supply from the water supply to WC. However, as I had installed an additional water supply specially for the bidet, this T joint was not needed. The plumber could connect directly. But I did not check, left the boxes unopened to the plumber. Few weeks later, after all the other toilets had already been fitted, I bought another box for another toilet. That was when I found out there was this piece. But too late to go back to look for the plumber. I may not have needed to use that piece, but I could use it for other purposes in the future. In fact, I almost needed it for another tap. Anyway, I like to keep such parts. So, if it is mine, you should not take it. If you want it, you should ask. We should always check. Not just the plumbers but everyone. I like to keep the manuals for everything I buy but often the workers just throw them away. I am a little shocked by the method of using lots of tape to secure the joints. Hope I don't have this problem.
  4. I bought a 2 blade Vento Libellula. Vendor already warned can be noisy. Based on specs, wind power seems sufficient. Tested at showroom. Felt ok. But when installed, fail. Three settings: Low - almost no wind, quiet Medium - a bit of wind only, a bit noisy High - Sufficient wind, but noisy. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/62505-top-kew-drive/?p=823533 I think two blade fans cannot make it, if you want wind. But they look nice if you are looking at design only and wind circulation.
  5. You can consider my list of things to buy for your new home! http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/62505-top-kew-drive/?p=828391 http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/62505-top-kew-drive/?p=837895 Most important to note is not how big you are but what you are wearing (or not)!
  6. I DIY lots of things but I gave up trying to crimp the cable to replace some connectors with broken lock tabs. How do you guys line up the 8 tiny cables???
  7. I have used both two door and side by side refrigerators, and I can confirm side by side refrigerators are generally much bigger in size, both internally as well as externally. In particular, the freezer compartment is much bigger. I am not sure if this is the same with you guys but I tend to keep lots of stuff in the freezer. So, I cannot live without the big freezer compartment. However, it is true that the wider width of the side by side refrigerator might be an issue if your kitchen is small. But at my previous place, an apartment where there was no place to put my side by side refrigerator in the kitchen, I put it in the hall next to the dining table! Looked perfectly fine next to my wine chiller.
  8. mishmash Better not get the impression that market rate is $150 for everything. This price is not just "more than reasonable". To me, it is ridiculously cheap. I paid much more than this per point, although I must disclose that mine were all concealed, over long distance and included supply of cables and termination which mavicaste is doing himself. I think market rate for unconcealed may be around $150 per point but I am not sure.
  9. No special steps. Just add water when dry. But I have these plants for only about 2 weeks, so still early to tell. p.s. my orchids also died after several weeks!
  10. Oops. So sorry to hear this. Now that you say it, my Karcher is a bit noisy. But I guess I never included noise as a consideration. If less noise is important to you, I think you can consider Miele. The last time I tried, seems not so noisy. But expensive.
  11. Just in case you do not know, just want to point out that cats are not allowed in HDB flats.
  12. Yeah, I have visited World Farm a couple of times too. Bought some plants there as well. Basically: Cheap : Ikea Convenient: Nurseries near your home (I like those along Bedok South Road) Large selection of potted plants and cheaper too: World Farm (Hua Hng) along Bah Soon Pah Road (near Khatib). Opposite Word Farm here there is also a Pioneer Landscape that sells potted plants. The plants in Ikea are supplied by this Pioneer nursery. Large selection of landscape plants: Pioneer Landscape along Jalan Lekar, Lim Chu Kang
  13. I bought a number of plants from Ikea for my vertical garden as well as a pot or orchid. So far so good. I prefer the ones along Bedok South Road. Read here: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/62505-top-kew-drive/?p=849049
  14. In the East area where i live, there are quite a number of nurseries. Some of the more prominent ones include Ban Nee Chen at 45 Amber Road, which specialises in bougainvillea. There is also Katong Flower Shop at 3829 New Upper Changi Road, opposite Tanah Merah MRT. But I prefer to go to the row of nurseries along Bedok South Road, since I can park my car in one nursery and walk from one nursery to the other. Here you have Kwang Kee, Chin Ling, Spa, Lai Seng and Bedok Garden. I normally go to Lai Seng and Bedok Garden. Lai Seng because I am a long time customer of his and I know the old man. Bedok Garden because it is part of the Far East Flora group and has a big selection. I also have a discount card with them.
  15. Pioneer Landscape in Jalan Lekar is where I bought my frangipani, chinese new year citrus lime trees and many other plants. This place is far away but worth a visit if you are buying bigger or more plants. Directions to this nursery were given in my earlier post here: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/62505-top-kew-drive/?p=835734 Otherwise the little plants at Ikea are good enough. The tall orchid below was bought from Ikea. The shorter one from one of the nurseries along Bedok South Road. Both about $6. The pots are from Ikea.
  16. There must be a reason why the films were applied in the first place. So if you remove them, you most likely will have to reapply another film. In that case, wouldn't the contractor applying the new film remove the old film for you?
  17. If you guys are just buying small plants and pots, the best prices are from Ikea. If you want more selection, then good selection at reasonable prices can be gotten from any of the nurseries nearby. I like those along Bedok South Road. If you want the cheapest prices, then you need to go to those faraway nurseries in Lim Chu Kang e.g Jalan Lekar.
  18. Better not use penknife unless you know how to. It might scratch the glass. Just use thinner or other chemical to remove the glue.
  19. They did not pull the plant up in one move. Two men were pulling and the third was securing the end of the rope to my railings. So, each time they were pulling up the plant bit by bit, and the third man was securing the rope. And fortunately for them, there was a window ledge above the first and third level windows. So, these were intermediate platforms which they could rest the plant on. Still, it was dangerous. I was particularly shocked that they were using bare hands. I offered them plastic kitchen gloves (the only ones I had) but they declined, saying it would be worse. Appreciated their hard work.
  20. The casement window handles look quite standard. Can buy from any hardware shop. You can even change yourself.
  21. Yeah, I guess I should have bargained or changed electrician. Did you type wrongly? $150 for everything??? or $150 per location? Your last sentence seems to be saying that your parents would be the helpers??
  22. If I understand the design, I think it is most impractical and will be a waste of money. Toilet door opens inwards. I don't know how your ID is going to make a tic tac door that opens inwards. And tic tac doors are unreliable, easily spoilt. Your visitor may be trapped inside the toilet! Bomb shelter door opens outwards but is very heavy. How to do a tic tac door for such a heavy door? I suppose you can built the entire structure outside the original doors, but this will make your corridor so cramped, and you need to open two doors to get to the toilet! Easier to just go to the other toilet.
  23. IDA has required all new homes w.e.f. 1 May 2013 to have Cat 6 cabling to every room. So most likely the contractor simply laid Cat 6 cables to the telephone point. It is probably just a case of changing the face plate. In fact, I believe that since some years back, contractors have already been using network cabling as the telephone cable. It could be Cat 5 or 5e cabling but still fast enough.
