  1. Hi it can be done. You need to use expansion bolts on the ceiling and hang the weight on these bolts. The more you pull the bolt down, the more the bolt expands inside the concrete, and holds it in place. You can get these bolts from any hardware store. However, please check the loading capacity of the bolt. Your chair looks very heavy. I think you will need at least 2 bolts on each side, total 4. One example is to install two sets of the following steel ring, using expansion bolts. My frangipani tree was in danger of falling to one side, so I used this to secure the tree to a wall. This steel ring holder is actually used to hang KDK and other fans from the ceiling. You can get from most hardware stores. However, please do check what bolt you require. I fear that such a chair with your entire family may be very heavy. I have a bubble chair suspended from the ceiling. For that chair, the installer fabricated a steel ring which used 4 expansion bolts.
  2. The Civet Cat came visiting again. Caught on my webcam at almost 3 am.
  3. I am still using Philips Soundbar that looks like yours. But I find it difficult to use. It does come with a iPod dock but I was looking for a Bluetooth USB dongle (is there one?) that I can plug into the Soundbar and makes it wireless. Anyway, now I am subscribing to Apple Music (Family package) and I don't think I will need to buy any more CDs. It is so convenient.
  4. I also have a Lodge grill. I think the steak looks and taste so much better than using Amy other modern appliance.
  5. For electrical points, my advice is to:- 1) over cater - you will definitely find the points insufficient and start to add multi-point adapters, which may not be safe 2) ask for dual point sockets - most cost efficient compared to single point sockets 3) have some on the opposite wall - you will need them For TV points, no comments if you are installing SCV points. But practically useless to instal the traditional rooftop antennae TV points, whether private or HDB. This network is scheduled to be decommissioned. Supposed to have been done last month already.
  6. Herb Garden I did start a herb garden. But partly due to lack of care, I have kind of given up. The following are some pictures I took shortly after I started the herb garden. I will insert the names of the plants when I remember. Pandan Lime Baby Tomatoes? Chillies? Curry Mint? Lemon Grass? Basil Truth be told, most of them have died. Or I removed them, leaving only the Pandan and the Lime. The Curry plant grew too tall. I cannot remember where I bought them. But I know World Farm @Bah Soon Pah Rd sells a number of such plants. Some herbs I may have bought off the supermarket shelf.
  7. The vertical garden needs a water source (at the top) and discharge (at the bottom). It also needs sunlight. If there is insufficient sunlight, you need to install and turn artificial lights during the day. It needs maintenance (cut away dried leaves, replace plants that died, pruning, add fertiliser etc) every one or two weeks. I also spray pesticide to control creepy crawlies. I regard it as one of the best features in my house. However, it is probably not a good idea to do it unless you are ready. Yes, all my DIY self-irrigation potted plants are still thriving. But you may want to start with a small pot, like the one on my TV console before moving to bigger pots.
  8. Nice job. Unfortunately you can only paint the outer side.
  9. If you are using Renotalk gallery, I don't think you can increase the image size. There are also other limitations. So most of us use external image hosting sites like Photobucket, Flickr or tinypic. For the first two, you can follow instructions here.
  10. Lazyfatcat007, the painting looks bad to me. But I do not know enough to comment on painting. Perhaps the sharp contrast in colours is making it very obvious. But if you look at this job, the line looks quite straight. Bubblybee, I bought Toto. It is good. You can get it from a number of shops but I bought from Heritage Gallery @Geylang. As per my blog title, my place is at Kew Drive (Upper East Coast Rd). Any queries you can post in my blog. Better not hijack this blog.
  11. I thought the complaint was that the Baron W888 has a weak flush? That is what I read here and here. But I have no personal knowledge. (P.S. seems like the second article is complaining about another WC). If you do get those models that use very little water to flush (e.g. one tick only), do check that they flush efficiently. Otherwise, you end up flushing 2 or 3 times, which defeats the whole purpose as you end up using more water than a regular 3 tick WC. This is just my point of view. Hope you don't suffer from information overload after reading my blog. It is a common complaint.
  12. The design makes a difference to the way the water flushes. It is not possible to test. Most shops do not have their WCs connected to a working flush system. The only shop that I know does this is Fullsun at Jalan Besar but they sell mainly Toto WCs. Even then, it is flushing only water so you still cannot really test. I guess the only way is to do some research on feedback by users. So far, I read from forum users who comment that they are referring to only one particular brand or model. I guess to be safe, you can avoid that. There is also some kind of USA test website that one forum user referred to but I am not sure how to use it. I could not find my model listed.
  13. I have renovated 3 times and everytime my aircon discharge pipes are embedded below the tiles. I never encounter any problem. These pipes carry a small amount of discharge, only when the aircon is operating and they are not pressurized unlike normal water pipes. Risk of serious leakage from these pipes should be very low. Most leakages are at the blower area. But if you overlay, I guess there is insufficient depth to embed the pipe.
  14. You can have one drawer but the drawer will have a U gap to avoid the pipes, so the drawer space will be reduced.
  15. The floor tiles in all my wet shower areas are cut in the manner as shown in your top picture. It does its job. All other tiles including toilet floor but outside the shower area have straight cuts. As per your second picture but without the two additional diagonal cuts. One question I have: since you redo the floor, is it not possible to embed the aircon drainage pipe below the floor tiles?
  16. I bought one big slab before. But it is too heavy to mount on condo wall. Need to cut to smaller pieces. And that creates the problems ....
  17. The mechanism of almost all locks can be changed. You can take a picture of your current lock, bring down the photos and key to any reputable locksmith. They can tell you what to do.
  18. It was my better half who chose. I am not aware of Ximula or Alumix. I am not sure but I think OPSH is the only company able to do really clear crystal glass finishing for the doors? Those done by other companies end up with some greenish tinge. This is what I recall.
  19. All my wardrobes are pole system from OPSH. I find pole system very practical as the wardrobe space is all the way to the back wall and the concrete ceiling.
  20. I have the same type of down lights with an outer transparent rim, but there is no gap. The light is flush with the ceiling. However, I hope yours is the type which you can remove easily to change the driver or bulb. Because mine is difficult to remove.
  21. Your zoo collection is very interesting. Hope you don't live near my place, or the wild civet cats may attack them!
  22. Starting soon. Do you want to place an order? I am told it is $30 a cup at Blue Mountain Cafe @313 Somerset. I am willing to give 20% to all RenoTalk users here.
  23. I pretend to be an expert in this area, so you can read here if you wish. Basically, what goes in must come out. There must be an outlet for the (filtered) air to come out, so that the hood can suck in the oily cooking fumes. In the past, most people use those hoods that jut out. The outlet is on top of the hood that juts out, so there is no blockage. But nowadays, people like to use the slim hood which does not jut out. The outlet is hidden under the cabinet. If you completely block the outlet, no air will come out. If no air can come out, no fumes can be sucked in. So, contractors have to find ways and means to leave an outlet.
  24. Intruder Caught on Camera! On Monday morning just before 1 am, my webcam in the yard caught an intruder. It's a wild civet cat!
