  1. Since 1 May 2013, IDA has mandated that all new homes must have pre-laid network points in all rooms. I am not sure but I am sure this policy applies to HDB flats as well. The government is well aware of how important this is.
  2. I explained why you should lay data points here: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/62505-top-kew-drive/?p=835953 The other blog you may want to read is Mavicaste' blog. His network layout and installation is more professional than mine. If you have any queries, feel free to ask.
  3. I envy you. I should have laid more than just one point to each room. I wanted to lay two points for each room, but the electrician wanted to double the charge. In protest, I refused to lay two points.
  4. How do you install feature wall at bomb shelter, and cover up all the way to common toilet / mbr entrance?
  5. This is how I remove stains from my white marble. Not sure if it works on homogeneous tiles so I suggest you try out on an obscure piece first. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/62505-top-kew-drive/?p=842435 For stubborn stains, you may have to do it several times. Note: Do at your own risk! I disclaim all responsibility!
  6. I always have a power point in the toilet at eye level on the wall beside the basin/mirror and I find it very convenient for hair dryer, shaver etc. It is away from water source. Not sure about HDB regulations. This is how the power point in my toilet looks like: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/62505-top-kew-drive/?p=826092
  7. Harriette I see you are using a lot of IKEA stuff. I use a lot of IKEA stiff too but the quality varies. My Billy bookcases lasted me more than 10 years. But my Besta bookcases collapsed in 7 mths. There is a problem with the design.
  8. I looked up the dimensions and I think the distance from ceiling to blade, and the blade length, is way too small. Seems like much shorter than the small KDK M11SU This type of fan probably more for air circulation only. Did you not try out at the shop? You have to.
  9. I just end mine with loose cables. It is a bit messy. You can look at the pics. If you can accept that, then it is ok.
  10. You should do the data points. I explained in some detail in my blog. You will regret later if you don't do it now. Homeplugs are not reliable. Over the long run, they are also more expensive.
  11. For this type of case, not much point complaining to CASE. If you still have monies owing to the ID or contractor, just deduct or withhold payment. If yours is marble tile, can re-polish. If ceramic tile, then I guess just have to change the really bad ones and live with the rest. Maybe you can purchase/keep some spare tiles so that you can use them in the future should you decide you need to replace more tiles. Not easy to find the same tile next time.
  12. Please make sure you are on site to monitor. You don't want them to solve the problem at hand but create another two that were previously non existent. It happens.
  13. You can undermount a topmount sink but it will not be a perfect fit. There will be a larger gap between the sink and the bottom of the counter-top. This is because the edge of the sink was not designed for undermounting. A sink specially designed for undermounting will have a flat edge which will fit nicely to the bottom of the countertop. Normally, this type of sink cannot be topmount as it is not suitable. Anyway this is like asking whether all mushrooms can be eaten. The answer is yes. Just that some of them you can only eat once.
  14. I find your tap a bit too close to the power point. A bit dangerous to me.
  15. So the problem with the cooker hob location arose when the plans were changed and you left it to the ID and contractor to decide the new layout. Did you sign a written contract and if so, with who? The ID or contractor? From your photos, it is not very clear what your complaints are, apart from the initial cooker hob location. You can consider using sites like http://www.photobucket.com to store and display your images here, like what most of us do. The image will be bigger and clearer, and you can have many more pictures. Then we can give our two cents worth. Yes, we are all here to share and learn. It is most unfortunate that you have this problem. As what I posted on my blog:
  16. Further to what sforshor said, I am wondering why you noticed the position of the cooker hob only after the whole kitchen was completed. In all renovation works, the layout of the kitchen would have been shown to you for approval, complete with dimensions. And you should have gone to site regularly, so that you can spot things when they start to go wrong, before it is too late. Since you have an ID, this would almost certainly have been done. And part of the ID's job is also to supervise. I am curious what went wrong. Was it the ID or contractor's fault? How much have you paid the contractor?
  17. Honestly, I have no idea. But I think it will take many years before the tree outgrows the pot. I think the frangipani tree will not grow so fast, and its size may well be limited by the pot. (Maybe check back this page after 5 years? ) I did consider a bigger pot, but I thought it would not look nice. The one I chose seems just right for this plant size. Pandan leaves are different. They grow very fast. In fact, in my yard, I had to cut away much of the overgrown pandan leaves.
  18. I had to rush to get band-aid for the workers as they got cut by the rope. My goodness. I discovered that they were using bare hands to pull the rope. Then I had to rush to get water for them as one of the workers, the youngest one who has just started working in Singapore for less than 3 months, almost fainted. Not sure whether it is from the cuts or sheer exhaustion. It was really hard work for them. But eventually, they managed to get it to the side at the top, and then bring it over the ledge. Then they planted the tree into the pot. As it was still freshly planted, they had to secure it with ropes.
  19. First, they secured a rope around the tree. Then the workers went up to the roof terrace to pull the tree up, while I stayed at the ground level manoeuvring the tree out of obstacles like the ledge, windows etc. Halfway I had to run to my level 3 window to help push the tree as it got stuck first at the window ledge and then at the awning.
  20. For many people, after all the renovations have been completed, it is time to bring in the plants. I did some planting in and around my house, but the last plant, a frangipani about 4 m in height and weighing close to 200 kg (without pot) had to be brought up to the roof terrace. There was no way to bring this up via the staircase, so how? The workers (3 indian foreign workers) told me they will pull it up via the side of the house!
  21. More importantly, the door must be installed above the sloping part. If that is done, there is no need for the rubber seal. If not supervised, many contractors will install directly above the joint. In that case, even with a rubber seal, it will not keep out water totally. I never remove any of these tape. In the process of removal, you might accidentally cause the tap to leak.
  22. haha, just saw your post. Anyway, this looks like the professional water jet. Mine is the small home version. And I guess it is a better idea if the jetting is done by the authorities rather than you, especially in view of the complaints.
  23. I stand corrected, but in the future if for some reason you need to subscribe to two or more ISPs on fibre (e.g, SingTel & StarHub to deliver different services to different rooms), this might pose a problem unless you have two or more Cat 6 cables running from your utility room to the place you put your router. But I guess this is unlikely for the majority of users.
