  1. Yep 👍 a spare line is so important I ran most of my Electricals in a trunking in my floor forgot to add a point to light up the side of my garden sigh ..
  2. My place had an existing OTP outside at the porch. so my electrician ran a fiber cable to where I was going to site my switches and modem under the tiles of my car porch. it made it simple for the openet crew. Simple job and minimal cost of a couple of hundreds if you ask them to run and resite their external OTP it will cost more and you may have already finished all your tiling or false ceiling and you end up with external trunking
  3. Thanks, it seems that he screwed the item directly on to the wooden panel.. so I wonder if the housing can still be reused... can you recommend a particular one? I'm a bit of an audiophile, so getting a decent one matters.. Re - the KAM brand that my friend uses, that's a really low price. But how's the quality?
  4. My builder came through nicely: $500 for the one at the gate, and one more at the smaller DB for L3. He also fixed the spoiled isolator and wall sockets affected, and helped me install an outdoor lamp that needed replacement.... Half a day's work.
  5. Thanks, I'm awful with DIY, so I hope it last for a while... If it does need replacement, can I swop out the Type 2 and use one of the Type 1?
  6. Is it easy to replace a bad SPD? I saw some sites suggesting replacing it every two years... I can't imagine asking a LEW to come so often... especially if there isn't any fault. If there is a strike and does it always turn red? I can't imagine having to keep a few of these standby... if it's easy to swop, maybe I can use a Type 1 in future in the same spot.. Thanks
  7. Thanks for chipping in, this was the easiest for him to find at the moment, so I hope it works.. Let's see if it stops the trips at my pond. However he also found that it might be the outdoor switch that is the issue. The other area that trips is when there is a direct strike on my roof and there's one switch that trips in the top floor. Hope the SPD in that DB helps. I haven't got the bill yet from my guy, so I can't share the damage yet, thanks for asking snoozee... I was hoping there will be some storm before I go back to work, but so far it's been peaceful haha...
  8. Some points I learnt - when wiring your home, plan some redundancy, eg one line shorted, but the electrician was able to tap another line for my pond power and lights - use good cables, it's worth paying more - plan for expansion, so get a good sized DB box - tighten the various cables when you open the box - place a light in the DB box or a torch nearby
  9. Tada! The man brought the Hager you mentioned.. 20kA three phase Plus one more for the hifi den
  10. Also , a friend was told to use a 20kA times three SPD I can’t seem to find a 100KA one and the price goes up quickly beyond 40kA … any idea of costs for these devices?
  11. It seems my main DB is full, so the target is at the incoming gate post.. is it possible to add one outside of the DB I.e. adjacent to it? that’s my main gate and level three DB thanks !
  12. Friends I’m keen to add a lightning surge protector Should I add it to my main DB or gate ? how much protection should I get? Someone said 40 kA I’m using a three phase 63a system right now with one dedicated line to my Hifi den the other two go to the rest including the pool, pond and other stuff. thanks
  13. Remember to get the gate company contact you’ll need their help years later also decide what happens when there’s no electricity- gate shuts or there’s a release option And keep one PowerPoint near the gate post and a water tap point too
  14. By right, but many swing out, and as he has pointed out, the practicalities of how easy it is to enter also influence your choice. The sliding version is much slower, and you need to plan space for it. Also consider where the receiver for the remote is: say you always drive from the left side in, and you need to see if the remote can reach the sensor to open, so that when you reach your home, the gate is open. Also plan where your side gate is, and how it open, the type of lock - eg digital or manual and whether you have a little hood for it. You can design your own gate, laser cut your house number into it, but consider the materials used - wood looks nice but tends to require more work and maintenance. The type of metal will also be important and more hinges help prevent sagging. Get at least four remotes and remember to change the batteries. https://peteswrite.blogspot.com/2019/09/choosing-gate-for-your-new-house.html

  16. If you are doing the electrical parts, I'll suggest installing proper surge protection at the main DB and in each box. Plus check your earth and make sure it's working well.
  17. Something to consider how hard is it to clean the angle and where the water will flow one of my pillars has water seepage due to the way the water flow and the amount of noise the roof creates
  18. Also add a power point. Some hubs like borsch need electricity use hard wearing materials under the canisters
  19. Look for and eliminate any active leak or water accumulation clean thoroughly with anti mold cleaners apply anti mold primer paint use a dehumidifier if all else fails then you’ll need to tear out that cabinet …
  20. A new 86” LG goes for less than 3k now.. that’s more than enough to recreate the cinema experience.. much easier to use than a projector and goes brighter..
  21. I would suggest keeping it simple. unless you’re good at DIY and maintaining your own home as well as troubleshooting.. things will spoil
  22. Online, balestier, Ubi are the usual choices 12/12 coming too
  23. I’m using blanco from Hoe Kee no issues for three years you really like starting new topics instead of posting in your own build thread eh…
