  1. It's from amazon: Retro Multiplex Non-Ticking Silent Wall Clock with Built in Thermometer [Celsius]/Hygrometer (Brown) They only have the Farhenhiet model now.
  2. See the previous posts... I have answered that before, cheers. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=45144&view=findpost&p=685334
  3. Just a link to some tips I have posted on buying overseas and importing items for your HT system or other items: http://peteswrite.blogspot.com/2012/05/importing-from-overseas-tips-info-and.html
  4. Some words on using Nine Lives: A friend on the hifi used the same contractor, Andy & Donald from Nine Lives: http://www.9lives.com.sg/ Having a bro initiated his renovations before me was a real boon. Then subsequently employing his ID as mine was a good decision, as the tricks, tweaks and revisions and ultimately all the painful lessons learnt allowed my project to go through a little smoother. The carpentry was good 9/10 Will use him for more work. Balcony: Good work and a prompt response to fix the warped piece. I really like going out to the balcony. 8.5/10 Blinds: Again nice stuff, and the color is good. The man used a drill which collects dust, so the area is quite clean. 9/10 Polishing: Good work again for marble and parquet 9/10 Painting: Good work again 9/10 Nine Lives have very good workers. They are hard workers, smart and don't leave behind things to fix. I can't say the same for the electrician's team. He seems too busy? His guys are not helping his business if they need to come back again and again. Ceiling: Here the difficulty starts... between the ceiling man, electrician and carpenter, there isn't enough talk, so some sawing of the struts had to be done, which may weaken the well constructed ceiling. Would have scored higher, if not for that. 7.5/10 Electrician: Sigh.... what can I say? After 6-7 visits, last night, I found one of the cove lights to be not working, again... I don't want to be difficult, and I really wanted to ignore the uneven light - not really fixed after the long Saturday, but I was too tired to make him do more... but really shoddy work guys... Fan was shaky, and needed my insistence to fix the kotoku. Switches not well made - some need a firm press to work. If I had known, I would not have changed them. The Kotuko fan needs all four screws to make it firm, make sure your contractor does a good job.
  5. In case anyone is shopping for a TV, buy the biggest you can. This article will give you some idea of how large works at a certain distance, but I watch my Blu Ray on my 64" TV from 2.8m. Happy with it. http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/article/maxing-out-resolution
  6. I have been asked a few times about the console I use for my HT, and I designed it myself, based on a friend's comments and my own HT needs. http://peteswrite.blogspot.com/2011/12/ideal-home-theatre-console-design.html All the info is there, cheers. And my 64" plasma TV is up...
  7. Just sharing some tips on buying a TV from big or small vendors and warranty issues: http://peteswrite.blogspot.com/2012/05/buying-from-major-vendor-pros-and-cons.html
  8. My retro headphones in from Amazon USA..
  9. See what I posted just now, and read this thread too: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/house-displays-226/hdmi-discussion-thread-ii-%7Bconsolidated%7D-3162624.html I use a $150 audioquest HDMI cable from my amp to the tv, aiborg china made ones for some, it's slim and goes round corners nicely. Monoprice cables for the rest. These cost under 20-30$ a metre. Cheers.
  10. Other cable sources include various shops in Adelphi, which carry most of the popular brands. This guy in xtremeplace.com also sells stuff from Monoprice, which are very value for money stuff, which you can buy from him or import yourself via vpost. http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=57721.0 The sales section at XP also sells plenty of good value 2nd hand and new cables.
  11. Someone asked me about cables and such... Locally you can look for LhS at Sim Lim Tower. For short HDMI cable runs, the brand is less important. But when you use longer than 6-8m get a better one and test it first before you install it in your false ceiling. The key issue is not so much better output, but less signal degradation with better cables over long distances. As for what I use, it's in the front page ...But unless it's your hobby, you may not want to spend as much... Or here: http://peteswrite.blogspot.com/2011/12/my-gear-12-2011.html
  12. There are some bargains, if you need some pots and pans. I bought some WMF stuff, Bodum cups, and knives. Plus a few air tight containers.
  13. FYI friends.. If anyone is into the "retro" styling for their homes, and wishes to get Eames, Sean Dixon, Hans Wenger etc, these are your options: - you can go original, which will be pretty good, but costly - you can get original, but old pieces, just make sure they are not rotten - you can get replicas which will be much cheaper (like 1/4 or less) If you go for replicas, do note that there is a wide variety of them, and many places to buy, such as OM, Lush, Logans', Summer, Gnee Hong, Picket Rail etc. The quality truly varies, and you need to see, touch and sit on them. This is especially true of the chairs, as the angle of the backrest, the texture of the wood, and even the finish varies a lot. So you do sometimes get what you pay for. Caveat Emptor.
  14. If you are not big on audio, spend on one good set, and you won't feel the need to upgrade for a while.. Otherwise you may lose more money when you feel the sound isn't good enough. I should be getting my large screen TV soon, pm me if you are keen to audition a 11 channel surround system..
  15. If you missed this sale, Lush still has a sale on, although the selection is more limited and the discount are less. However if anyone is thinking of getting the Eames Lounge Chair, it is very important that you try it. The build quality and the angle of the back rest is pretty variable, so Caveat Emptor...
  16. See ad in ST Saturday for prices and more info.
  17. BTW OM is having a 50% off, until 8pm today... Got these:
  18. Thanks, I have ordered stuff from them before, but I think Amazon has a bigger selection, so I will check both out... Oh and I just got this from amazon:
  19. I am looking for a couple of items, does anyone know where to get them? Thanks 1 - hammock - I intend to suspend this between the two walls in my balcony or one with a stand is fine too 2 - clothes line - again I intend to drill them and suspend them between two walls in the rather large balcony. Thanks
  20. My little project is almost complete... Just penned down some thoughts on starting the process of reno : http://peteswrite.blogspot.com/2012/04/deciding-on-renovation-beginning.html Just waiting for my big TV...
  21. When mounting speakers on the wall, make sure your wall and the screws or mounts can bear the weight - use something with about 20% more limit. Then you will need something behind it to avoid vibrations. The ideal height for surround side speakers is about 2-3 feet above the ears when seated.
  22. Just a note on switches: Big switches are in right now and I like them too. But do try your new switches, as some are not so solid in feel. The LeGrand ones are more soft touch, and the response is less solid or 'click clack' than say a corresponding MK. I really was not too impressed with the new Legrand switches for my cooker, so it was a good thing I kept the original MK ones which came with my unit. I got my contractor to switch back to them when they came for some touch up work today.
